It would be very tempting, but I think I would pass. Although when healthy he could arguably be the best RB in this draft, his character and injury concerns are a problem. They need to start improving the offense. but I think they can get help with the the 3rd and later picks. I'd look for the best pass rusher available - Ryan Anderson? - with the 2nd pick, and then turn to finding a 2-way TE, RB, OT, WR with the next picks.
SI Mock Draft from today has the Jets taking Cook at 39!!!! https://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/04/28/nfl-draft-friday-day-2-rounds-2-3-mock-draft
Hell yes. Take Cook and move Forte and Sheldon to make the math work on the cap. McNown handing off to Forte is not my idea of rebuilding or getting younger,
Just heard that Cook is off more boards due to character than even Mixon And that he showed up to meetings with teams stinking like alcohol. Wow how stupid can you be? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's a definite pass it true. No amount of God given talent can mask immaturity and a lack of professionalism. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Don't worry--Todd Bowles sent a clear message this offseason about how he feels about players approaching meetings.
A resounding yes to Cook. I'd actually look forward to the season if Hackenberg was named starter and they had Cook in the backfield. I'd then go oline with both third round picks. As others have stated, McCown and Forte does nothing for this team.
I know, replying to myself but just wanted to add. Cook has had some issues with things he did in middle school and then a few incidents early in his college career, criminal mischief for shooting a BB gun (charges dropped) and cited for improper care for having some puppies chained with a heavy chain (charges dropped) and last year, misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking a girl outside a bar. The jury found him not guilty in less than 25 minutes so I am thinking there was not much to that one. Sure you don't want your players even linked to stuff like this but based on where he grew up I wouldn't even consider the middle school incidents at all. The college stuff you take into account but also look at the fact the battery he was so confident he took it to trial. The puppies was bad judgement if he actually did this. The BB gun also bad judgement but a group of teammates shooting a BB gun while against the law is really not a big deal even if they did shoot a car window. He was 18 or so at the time, just a kid.
I know Cook and his people are claiming that it's coming from a scorned agent but I haven't seen anything that says it's proven to be untrue and the fact that he is still available leads me to believe it hasn't been proven untrue. I guess we'll know soon enough.
Why not? If he doesn't turn it around, we can cut him. It's what we do with our second round picks anyway.
There is a good article about a lot of it, the part below addresses the rumor. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/04/25/...cter-concerns-scouts-florida-state-miami-dade
