I remember when our turn came, I really wanted Cooks and the team desperately needed a receiver. Just seemed like a perfect fit. He fell right into our laps (Clinton-Dix would've been great too) nope.
Yep .. me too .. we needed a WR and I remember the fan base was mostly united in that front from the polls I saw and posts I read. I remember that draft well .. we passed on WR after WR .. passing up Allen Robertson hurt me. I can't believe the 1st WR we selected was Jalen Saunders (he was like 5' 3" 145 lbs soaking wet) .. and I remember Marquise Lee was still available late!!! We had so many picks that year .... mutha@&#^%#!!! Edit - sorry not Marquise Lee - Martavis Bryant.
We need him at least this year. So many young unproven receivers. After that we can let him so his C level celebrity wife can chase him around the house with a pair of garden shears all she wants.
Decker has been an excellent addition to this team and his veteran presence in the locker room will be good for the younger guys.
If you mean they are going to teach our young players to fulfill their potential then I hope you are right. OTOH, if you mean they are going to be Yoda and Obi Wan in that they are going to train the players that ultimately destroy this franchise, then I really hope you are wrong.
This sounds like "fantasy football mentality". If they aren't putting up huge numbers, they aren't worth a dam. Decker or his contract are not the issue. Marshall is gone but i don't think Decker has dropped nearly as many game changing passes as Brandon did in his stay here.
He did not look good last year but the year before he was one of our best players on defense. Every time he was out of the game due to injuries we played much worse on defense that year. With a young player (less than three years in the league) injuries and coaching can make a big difference on performance. It seems a bit early to give up on a guy like Pryor when we give guys like Geno Smith multiple opportunities to suck before giving up on them.
Don't worry, they are trying to trade him and it makes sense..if you don't have a center or a left tackle or a RB or a QB why do you need a WR..just draft another DL and be done with it.
i hate being wrong, yesterday i thought there was no way this thread could be dumber. today don chimes in and i stand corrected
You're right.... I went back and did some research and I guess my memory skewed because the Mehta story became that dominant in the narrative. Thanks for pointing that out. I like Decker and still think he can be an integral part of the Jets offense. I also think his experience in the league can be invaluable to the younger receivers who are emerging on the team.
Sorry, I don't agree with this thread in the least. Brandon Marshall went from top of the league to the bottom without Decker on the field. Decker was good for a TD almost every game. Granted Marshall had more drops, but the loss of Decker was near impossible to overcome for Fitz or Marshall. Yeah, the Jets had other issues too, but Decker was a big part of the success they had in 2015.
What else would you expect from a career qb?? A career fumbler or career clown, well, that'd be a different story.
