Contract year Sheldon will be a scary dude. I wouldn't take any less than a 3rd or get a 2018 conditional pick that can move around based on production.
Keep him, we will be pleased to have him if we get injuries on the D-line, tbh he could have replaced Mo last year on his one leg but no we put at linebacker. I still think he's a beast and hope he has a great year for us....
LOL No one has been smart enough or had the stones to do so I am far from a football genius but how hard can it be to just observe how the best teams treat the draft eg NE and just mimic their success?? Enough of this "BPA grab at first round"......BPA??? according to who?? Kiper and Agents who pay off the media for hype? Plenty of BPAs have been busts Its all a crapshoot ,,,,so best strategy is to go for quantity over the first 3 rounds...lose on one guy but score on two others jmho
A conditional 18 or we use him to move up 15-20 picks once in the 2-4 rounds. Something like our third to move back into second or our fifth to move into fourth.
He's not going anywhere now, nobody is going to pay that salary. If he goes it will be in the middle of the season when some team is desperate because of injury. Ron
Petty has 0 value. We wouldnt even need to throw him in. If Richardson walks we get a 3rd round pick anyway. So basically it's either a 3rd roundrer this year if we move him or a 3rd rounder next year if we don't
Won't we get a 3rd round compensation pick when he leaves in free agency. Why trade him for anything less, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Jets might not get anything if Sheldon Richardson leaves. Compensation picks are based on losing more free agents than you sign. The Jets will have a lot of cap space in 2018, and you can bet they will be spenders in Fa. ( FO have to keep their jobs) . So it's better to take even a fifth, and pick up 8 million plus when Richardson isn't on their roster.
Wrong. If the Jets aren't big players in Fa than yes they might get a third rounder. Don't bet on that, as the Jet FO has to spend a lot in 2018 to keep their jobs. The Jets probably won't get Nada if they let him leave.
Petty might not even make the Jets 53 man roster, so why would any team have any interest in acquiring him. The Jets aren't getting a third for Richardson as their too much working against the jets.
I'd be ecstatic with a 4th for him, but see a 5th more likely in a straight up deal. We could also use Sheldon to sweeten a deal to move back and acquire more or higher picks. We are likely to be spenders next offseason, so like others have said, I see no way that we get a comp pick in return for letting him walk in free agency. His value to another team is that he is a talented young DL who should be highly motivated because he is playing for that next contract. The Browns seem like a natural fit since they have the extra draft picks, the cap space, and the gaping hole on their defensive front.
That 3rd rd comp pick would not be until the 2019 draft. The way teams value draft picks is they are worth one round lower each year. The value of a 5th rounder in 2017 would be considered equal value to a 3rd in 2019. The additional savings would be 8 mill in savings and getting him out of the locker room. That being said there is a good chance Sheldon has a very good season in his contract year and maybe we could deal him for more next year using the franchise tag to hold his rights.
How did that work out with Muhammad Wilkerson trying to trade him under the franchise tag. Not as easy as it seems, and why the Jets will either trade him now, or watch him leave next year for nada.
The best strategy is the one that works. Could be any number of different scenarios. And you won't know if it works for 3 years.
Not nada. Probably a third round comp pick, which doesn't seem bad, considering what media is expecting us to get in a trade. Oh, and he's playing for a contract so you would expect to get max effort from the guy.
