So other than Marshall none of the Jets seasoned vets, many who were stars at one time, have garnered interest from other teams. Not sure I'm surprised but you would have figured Mangold, Revis, Giacomini, Folk, even Fitz to get at least a sniff of interest by some teams as a backup.
I'd bring back Mangold only as an insurance policy if he's willing to do that. Other than that - I am not touching any of the rest with 10 foot pole.
The more I think about it, I feel there's a chance Mac could make 2017 a rather surprisingly successful season if he plays his cards, right? Trade down and accumulate more picks is the 1st step. Draft Deshaun Watson or Kizer. With an additional 2nd rounder hopefully Cam Robinson slips to the 2nd round? Then take a chance on Jake Butt with Mac's second 2nd round draft choice. I do believe this is possible. Not probable? But there is a chance at getting a real coup of talent in this draft...
i tell u folks my man crush on OJ howard is at fever pitch levels. I previously thought 6 was too high for the TE but I am rethinking that seriously. This guy could be perfect for this anemic offense and make at least as much or more of an overall impact than the 2 RB's. the key word is overall. I realize he may touch the ball 7-8x per game as opposed to 20/25x but he can block and assist the entire OL. ideal scenario of trading down is very risky cause I don't think he makes it out of the top 10.
That's why I like you champ. Always champing. Regardless of the topic. No exception. And I am not being sarcastic here. I shit you not. You are pretty much the only constant in the entire board. You're pretty much the board mascot. You can be counted on to be champing on anything and everything. So - keep on champing. I'm rooting for ya. [LOL]
Maybe, maybe not... I guess we'll definitely see about that though? Won't we Yeah, I've thought a TE and Howard in particular, would be a great selection. Maybe even more so than Jake Butt? Mostly due to the fact that Howard has never had a major injury. But Butt was utilized much more in Michigans offense I believe? (Without looking)
I could see us trading down and taking a CB then trading back into the first round with maybe a pick from a Sheldon Richardson trade if a qb they like falls far enough to make it reasonable option.
No I'm not a millennial. It's funny that you feel a need to label me w. some sort of sociological ploy in order to make sense of me having the guts to call you out. This has nothing to do w. politics...nothing to do w. social class...nothing to do w. anything but passion for the team i love..a firm understanding of the legal system, care for integrity of the game & common sense. I've lived in CT in Patriot country my whole life...went to college in RI..and married into an insufferably bias family of Boston homers. Passive aggressive razzing is very familiar to me & just like w. all the other bozos..I have no issue calling out the nonsense. I will continue to trash patriot fans b.c I have not met any single fan of the team...not one..who can look at the cheating w. any sense of a level head.Perhaps that's b.c all the one's who did have an issue w. it & who actually have respect for the integrity of the game stopped following years ago. I know the way you guys think...I was here for all the ridiculous "Yankees suck" "No facial hair..no soul"..Phantom Chuck Knoblauch tag...if the shoe was on the other foot...and it was the Patriots who fell victim to fowl play which contributed significantly to the franchise bottoming out...you'd have T-shirts, bumper stickers, AM Radio song Parodies, top 10 lists, off-putting game day cheers, etc,ETC. The hypocrisy, ignorance, & rationalization is pathetic. And it hasn't been for just a year or 2...since 2008....almost a full decade of this...and it only became more acute after deflate gate & more bush league w. constant winning. Again..I beg the question.. if you are a fan of the jets...on any level..and given the fact that you are going out of your way to come onto a die hard Jets board...I gather you have strong feelings for the franchise one way or another..why would you try to defend spygate? Why even MENTION that you are a patriots fan? Regardless of what your opinion is...if you truly have intimate feelings for this franchise..you have to know that is an extremely sore subject for fans of this team. We were mocked & berated for nothing more than defending our livelihood on home turf mind you. Instead of our fight being reveled or rewarded...we were belittled into further oblivion. I can't speak for other Jet fans...but i'd have a hard time embracing the team..or at the very least the prevailing mind behind fowl play..regardless of the success on the field. Instead...we've heard every single excuse in the book...and ridiculous arguments/legal interpretations that don't make any sense or provide any means of acquittal. I wholeheartedly maintain the only reason your team & fans are not completely fried by the media on a daily basis for basically representing the football Anti-christ of the small amount of integrity this game has left...is because you win. Based on what we know about Hooded dracula & Co....thats the rub. Taking "winning cures all" to a whole different level. Opposing teams & fans are powerless to this movement...but that doesn't mean we should have to listen to flawed downplay from selfish bully fans & pundits. Yes..Patriot fans are human. Humans can be bullies...and that's largely what I see from the fan base. The only thing I want the jets to learn from the Patriots is the high standard of winning.Other than that...I want the jets to be as opposite as possible from the Patriots operation. Kraft is a greasy business man who not long ago completely screwed over the state of CT after we were already in shambles over losing the Whalers.Look at the quotes he said after both spygate & deflate gate. Maybe Woody Johnson is no different..but we may never know.Bellichick is an underhanded cold hearted reptile who lacks any sense of ethics. Beyond a select few standouts...the team is a faceless entity of interchangeable JAGS...I want my team to have fun talented players w. standout qualities involving toughness, team pride & integrity. Sorry...you could win 20 more championships & I still wouldn't want the Jets to follow your blueprint. I care about ethics & I care about doing things the right way w. a sense of originality. Jets will get nowhere waiting for a franchise QB to fall out of the sky in the 6th round.W. the Jets luck....they'd resort to the Patriots shady underworld, get caught & suffer the capital punishment the Patriots should've already gone through & moved on from about 5 years ago. They need to develop their OWN blueprint for success...the kryptonite to the bullshit your precious team represents. Back to my QB Starved Hibernation...
Kyle Brady Anthony Becct Johnny Mitchel Some schlub from the Raiders I can't ever remember a time where the Jets had success drafting a TE. Could be forgetting someone. This is no indictment of Howard in any way, but the ptsd remains...
I know about the draft history.....but that's rear view and old news. The club really needs to make an imprint on offense and this guy fulfills this. Granted folks can say fournette will do the same but i am thinking overall effect and longevity. The new OC may have some input here and i would suspect he would slightly favor howard. However, as we get closer, i think the jets may go CB very early...they previously drafted williams, lee, and now possibly will take another high pick on the back end of the D. Goes to show that prior bust picks (milliner for example) impact not only that year but future years as well.
This is why you want as many picks as you can get. Cuts down the impact of busts. Of course we had that in '13 and '14 and couldn't draft well anyway, so...
We definitely need to find a guy with the knack for picking hits. Haven't had that in a long time, maybe going back to the late 70's when we got Klecko, Gastineau, Walker, Harper and company without spending 1sts to do it. I think that was Jim Kensil running the show but I might be wrong on that.
The reality is that most picks are busts, so while teams want to build via the draft, it's very difficult. And simply having more picks often means having more misses. I would like to see a breakdown of "Success by Draft Position #", to see where the highest percentage of successes are. "Common sense" tells me it would be the first 3 rounds, but is that really true? Prescott wasn't drafted then, etc. But if the percentages drop in accordance with draft position, simply having a lot of fourth round and later picks probably won't help much.
Dustin Keller was the last successful TE. He gave us 5 years .. 4 good ones. I whole heartedly believe that we need another TE just in case Seferian-Jenkins does not have the goods this year. But I think too many people are sleeping on his talent level, if Seferian-Jenkins can stay dry AND healthy, he can be extremely productive. He's one of Macagnans high reward signings as he's still very young at 24. If the kid can come into camp focused and sober .. watch out. Jenkins due to injuries only played 9 games as a rookie and 7 games in 2015. He played in 9 total games in 2016, 7 on a Jets team that didn't even utilize him, never the less the position itself. If he can stay clean, healthy and focused, his stats can translate into Top 10 TE statistics, given trends based on his career numbers if he played at least 15 games on a team that uses a Tight End. He will definitely get the opportunity this year, and how destructive would the Jets offense be in double tight end sets with Jenkins and the rookie apparent. IMO it's too early to give up on him and given his talent level, makes selecting a TE with the 6th overall pick not as logical as trading down, acquiring more picks and then selecting one of the remaining Top 5 TE's in the next 2 rounds. Yes, Howard is talented, but I personally don't think too much seperates the top 5 overall and our overall team needs can be better filled by acquiring more picks. Even if Fournette was there at 6, I think I'd trade down if the deal was good enough. Get this guy an AA Sponser and a serious program, he's had issues since college with the devils juice, but what a pickup he'd be if he can keep on the wagon. Seferian-Jenkins Highlights
