Not surprising at all given that the average NFL career is a bit over 3 years at this point. The real question is: how many starters on a given team were drafted by that team? Lies, damn lies and statistics and all...
Statistics are like a gun; they don't lie. The person using them to present context does. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Article is somewhat misleading. It fails to take into account those teams that have successfully drafted top QBs. It's easier to build a team around a good QB. Did it really matter how well the Colts drafted when they had Peyton? He was so good he made players no one had heard of in college become excellent pros like Pierre Garcon, Jacob Tamme, Ken Dilger, Marcus Pollard, Ben Utecht, Austin Collie to name a few.
I'm not sure anyone will like this years draft. We have so many holes to fill that the draft will not give us starters for these positions. Hopefully some will grow into the job and be on the firing line next year. Rebuilding is not for the faint of heart.
It didn't say, and I don't know how to find out, but the question that occurs to me is: What was the average draft position of those 16.9% survivors? Is this comprised mainly of 1st and 2nd rounders, which would underscore the premium values of such picks, and the need to "hit" in the first couple rounds.
It will definitely be interesting. Depending upon whether Mac drafts a QB or not, with all those needs and there being players at several of those positions being very highly rated, I think that at least 2 should start day one (two of the first three picks), and possibly even the first 3 or 4 should start or see significant action if one of them isn't a QB. If not, either Bowles is sticking to players he knows or Mac didn't do a good job in the draft, or both. Hooker, Howard, Fournette and should Adams fall to the Jets and they take him, he should definitely start as well. If they take a CB in the 2nd round he might not start, but probably would as the #2 to Claiborne's #1. Foster might not start if Bowles sticks with his play the veterans mantra, but if it's an open competition, Foster could beat out either Harris or Lee. I can see a number of scenarios where quite possibly the first 3 picks all start. For instance, the Jets could take Howard in the first, Budda Baker in the second, and a RB or OLB in the third and each of them could start. The scenarios where I think people will be unhappy are: those who are clamoring for the offense to get some love if the first pick or two are defensive players; if they have fallen in love with a certain player at a position of need and the Jets don't take him; if they think it's crucial that the Jets take a player at a position of need and Mac doesn't; if he takes a QB (or doesn't take a QB), and none of the draft picks start immediately.
