Well the system only called for him to make one read. So from the snap to the throw he knew he was going that guy. That would help any quality QB make a nice throw. Plus he's standing back there with beautiful clean pockets on all 3

I see Geno Smith when I watch Mahomes. Run their college highlights side by side and there is no difference

Geno dare I say had better pocket presence then Mahomes in terms of prospects coming into the NFL. I would also take Kizer over Mahomes.

I totally agree, that's how much I don't want to take Mahomes on the 6. I'd rather take a guy from a more traditional offense who I think has limited chances to succeed than a guy from an Air Raid who I think has basically zero chance to succeed in NY with the Jets.

I don't agree on Kizer at all. My reasoning is centered on accuracy: Mahomes is much more accurate than Kizer. The Jets already jumped on a big bodied strong armed inaccurate QB in Hackenberg, I can't see them pulling that lever twice.

The Geno comparison to Mahomes makes sense on paper due to the system they played in but I personally believe Geno's character prevented him from flourishing. You could definitely tell he has a lot of talent but his attitude wasn't helpful. I don't see how you can compare Geno's character to Mahomes.

Mahomes rarely throws with anticipation coming from a 1 read offense, he misses throws as well and coming from that offense, you shouldn't be missing any type of throw as everything is pre-determined.

I think Kizer is an excellent deep ball thrower, but his short throw accuracy needs to get better, needs to get better with his footwork.

    This throw is absolutely money

To me with Kizer it's about the short accuracy, but the kid can rip it intermediate and down the field with accuracy and zip. He has more polished mechanics as well. Plus he's got the size to boot.

Mahomes throws the ball 80 times a game he's bound to have some nice highlight reel throws. I don't think we should take any QB high in this draft. If we take anyone maybe Chad Kelly in the 6th round or something

I get your logic here. Personally those videos you posted show him delivering clean strikes to receivers that are wide open. The videos Big Cat posted show Mahomes delivering the ball into tighter coverage, particularly the third one.

I don't believe Mahomes is a perfect prospect by any means but given the choice between him and Kizer I'm taking Mahomes every day of the week and not looking back.

    Kizer Comp Pct:
    Total: 60.7%
    2016: 58.7%

    Mahomes Comp Pct:
    Total: 63.5%
    2016: 65.7%

I get that Mahomes system helps in this regard but that's a factor Mahomes can't do anything about.

Frankly I think Brian Kelly was right. Kizer should have stayed in school another year. If he had waited a year, upped his completion percentage and cleaned up some other things, he'd probably be a top 15 pick. He's a year too early in my view.

And Mahomes's arm and his ability to make passes is way better than Geno, and that makes all the difference.

101 Gang Green, with all due respect Mahomes did not play in a one read system. Go back and check his scouting videos you can see multiple reads on many plays. You can also see him many times changing the play pre snap. He also had a horrendous OL last year and could not sit in the pocket and make throws like Geno could at WV. Mahomes has a much stronger arm and makes throws that Geno could never make. I have heard scouts compare him to A Rodgers, Favre, Stafford, and Big Ben. I have yet to hear them compare him to Geno.

Mahomes's value amongst scouts and pundits is climbing big time.. He is probably going at 13 to Cards. I think this kid is gonna be a star for someone, maybe not right away but soon, Another in the long line of QBs that we regret not drafting. Also he started three years at Tech and he had stiff competition. Davis Webb and Bake Mayfield could not beat him out, causing both to transfer.. Webb maybe a late 1st or early 2nd round pick. Hell I would rather have Webb than Kizer or Trubinsky.

I wish Kizer the best he seems like a good kid, but he even had problems playing for ND. I remember Kelly pulling him several times during the season for poor play. Kelly has also said Kizer needed another year in college, but we should take him in round one?

If you saw Grudens show he also summed up my issues with Trubinsky.. Only 15 starts in college is too small a sample size. Especially for 1st round, but someone will reach. I hope it is not us.

Interesting to note that Mahomes is visiting the Jets today, and it just so happens that Mahomes tried to hire Bates before he took the position with the Jets as QB coach. Shefter notes that "there is a mutual respect".

Tell you what: if you're right and this overrated big-arm stiff is gone by the #6 pick, I'll leave this board for a year.

    Better yet: for good.

^ scroll to the 1:30 mark:
    - happy feet, throws a Pick-6 off his back foot into double coverage, and then plays possum half-assing it to the sidelines...followed by:
    - "pocket awareness?" - prematurely bails from the pocket and turns play into a "throw-it-up-for-grabs" chinese fire drill.

v scroll to the 2:35 mark (this is really ugly):
    - mr. happy feet double clutches (a la Sancho) then misses a wide open receiver staring him in the face with a short pass that's eventually picked off.

I checked his scouting videos and read the reports.

    http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/03/01/...i-texas-tech-quarterback-first-round-prospect

"Here’s the first thing that gives evaluators pause. The Red Raiders run a variation of the Air Raid offense, popularized by former coach Mike Leach (Kliff Kingsbury, Tech’s current coach, played quarterback under Leach). It’s a quarterback-friendly system, pass-happy and full of quick-strike plays, leading to huge (and what many would call inflated) statistical outputs. According to most NFL evaluators, the system doesn’t translate to the pros because it’s so heavy on predetermined reads."

Perhaps he may go through 1 or 2 reads, but they are predetermined. There is no post snap adjustments. Feel free to rebuke this but I haven't see anything that suggests any pro principles are used in that offense system. If you have someone feel free to post it.

BTW Brian Kelly is an asshole and I think he was overly reliant on Kizer.

mahomes was HORRENDOUS in that Iowa State game. Iowa State is a bad football team. 66-10, Iowa St. Y'all watch that game and tell me my Geno Smith comparisons are way off.

the reason Iowa State was able to do that is because they switched from a 4 man base to 3 down linemen and brought blitzers all game (unlike most the Big XII). Mahomes was lost. In the NFL teams will blitz the shit out of him, and he will be a bad QB against the blitz. just like......geno smith

Kliff Kingsbury (2000-2002) Career Stats: 91 TDs 39 INTs. 133 QBR. 65% completion

BJ Symons (2003) Career Stats: 52 TDs to 22 INTs. 147 QBR. 64% completion

Graham Harrell (2006-2008) Career Stats: 131 TD 34 INTs. 154 QBR. 69% completion

Taylor Potts (2009-2010) Career Stats: 57 TDs 23 INTs. 140 QBR. 66% completion

Seth Doege (2011-2012) Career Stats: 68 TDs 26 INTs. 144 QBR. 69% completion

Davis Webb (2013-2014) Career Stats: 44 TDs 21 INTs. 138 QBR. 61.5% completion

Pat Mahomes (2014-2016) Career Stats: 93 TDs 39 INTs. 152 QBR. 63% completion

All trash QBs before Mahomes and they too put up ungodly stats in this pee-wee program.

But you can't use completion % as an indicator of ones accuracy cause of the system, it could skew the #s. That Notre Dame team was awful on defense, Kizer had to be a star just to keep them in each game. The best thing for him was to leave Notre Dame, especially after what Kelly said about him. Kelly couldn't coach his team out of a paper bag last year. There are other gifs I can post, but that 2nd one was a money throw and there were defenders in the area.

I can't vouch for Mahomes, I can for Kizer. Mahomes will still get drafted over Kizer at the end of the day.

I understand. Nothing is ever that black and white. You can't use completion percentage as the sole indicator of success the same way you can't use their college system as the sole indicator of success. At the end of day both prospects take big hits in their respective categories due to historical data showing how that translates to the NFL level

Browning even your name makes me shiver at the ineptitude of the Jets QB draft selections over the many years, lol. The Iowa st. game was Mahomes worst game in his career but he wasn't responsible for Iowa St.'s 66 points! The Tech defense was the worst in DI. His OL was loaded with freshmen and other inexperienced starters. He had no running game due to lack of depth and injuries..

Just to be fair and for comparison purposes check out Kizer's stats in the Stanford and NC State game last year... two back to back horrendous games for a team, ND loaded with talent.

I remember Graham Harrell, he was pretty much Mahomes before Mahomes to an extent. Him and Crabtree were amazing. Remember the game winning catch heard all around the world:

Harrell at Texas Tech could make every throw in the book, I thought he was going to be legit in the NFL.

It's the same story all over again but with more hype, I won't get fooled this time.
