'sit through another shit season' but it's rebuild.. it's intentionally a shit season. cutler would make zero sense.
Like McCown makes any sense. We shoulda went with Petty or Hack and drafted a QB mid round. It's a give-away year anyway. WTF is the point?
btw we should have gone for Cutler 2 years ago. I was told I was batshit crazy. I wanted Cutler in 2015. Now it's too late.
McCown does make sense. He's a veteran QB who can mentor the young guys, and unlike Cutler doesn't command a starting job. Signing Cutler basically has him as our starter for 2 years. McCown may or may not even start week 1 and if he does he's gonna get hurt. He's not the guy who was signed to be THE starter. He's here mostly for locker room reasons and poses the ability to start some games. The Jets are absolutely looking at their young guys and the draft.
^ This. To add, if they did bring in Cutler, and he started, he may have given the Jets the ability to just win enough games to not make the Wild Card. Another mediocre season and another lost opportunity to either know what the youngsters on the bench are capable or to draft QB in 2018.
Stop with the "mentor" shit already! "Definition of mentor 1 capitalized : a friend of Odysseus entrusted with the education of Odysseus' son Telemachus 2a : a trusted counselor or guide a mentor who, because he is detached and disinterested, can hold up a mirror to us — P. W. Keveb : tutor, coach The student sought a mentor in chemistry." A mentor doesn't need to take a roster spot. A mentor doesn't need to use cap space. A mentor doesn't need to have his time at work regulated by the CBA.
NY Jets Mentor History Mark Brunell--------> Mark Sanchez Michael Vick--------> Geno Smith Ryan Fitzpatrick---> Geno Smith Josh McCown------> ???????
i have watched them since 1965. they already lucked up once. broadway joe is not coming back to play qb.
Cutler is totally out of the picture now. The Bears dumped him and it looks like he has a job in the booth. Much safer talking rather then playing.
I think signing Cutler would have precluded us from finding out what Hack or Petty is. Also, it would have precluded us from possibly sucking to the point of being in position of drafting Darnold or Rosen. There are a lot of positives that come out of this situation 1) We get to see if Hack or petty are the future of this franchise, or show enough improvement to warrant us keeping them 2) It can also show that both suck and that we are in position to finally address the QB position with a #1 or #2 pick. 3) Younger roster is way overdue. A roster riddled with a high priced/low effort free agents is never a good thing. I rather have a young roster that plays its ass off every Sunday than an older one. The future isn't about 2017, its about 2018 and beyond.
You say you dont want a stop gap QB and then say you want cutler who would be exactly that.... i will say cutler does fit well with our love of QBs who cant wait to throw interceptions
You should be used to tanking with the Lakers. We are going to do what they do. At least we'll end up with a better franchise option than Lonzo Ball and his crazy daddy!
I'm just gettin' too old to sit thru another season of futile Jets football without some laughs along the way. Josh McCown has all the excitement of a box lunch. I'd rather see Hack or Petty sink or swim.
You do realise he is talking about a different Cutler right ???? Or do you think Cutler is built like a brick shithouse like the attached photo
same here. cutler i dont know how funny he'd be.. sad? sure. funny? no. either way TB has no sack so he will start the vets not the kids like he should
That's what the argument for McCown is all about - better chance of seeing Hack and/or Petty on the field than with having Cutler on the team.
