rooting for UNC in a game means you endorse cheating in college athletics

This was ruled UNC ball. No review. Where there's UNC or Duke, there are the refs, helping them along.

Rooting for UNC means I chose the lesser of two major evils in college basketball, as endorsed by the man who hit the winning shot for Villanova's National Championship.

very fitting that the season ended with some absurd officiating. I hope the story of the horrendous officiating blows up and embarrasses the NCAA so they make some changes.

Obviously that man is not aware of what UNC has been doing for the last 10+ years.

    Maybe someone should educate him.

You're just bitter that Gonzaga was better than Villanova, after all your baseless bashing of the Zags, they almost beat powerhouse UNC.

Obviously, you are oblivious to the benefits Gonzaga has been receiving from the media for the past 20 years.

yeah, every high school in the country would go undefeated against the WCC

    hello?

I'm not even a Gonzaga fan. Sick of the mindless bashing from those who don't watch the WCC and apparently think junior high teams play in it or something.

    My rooting interests:

    1)I hate UNC.
    2)I hate Duke.
3)Ped State should not be allowed to compete in Division I for several years.

Add this to the list - If you add up the Sum of the seeds of the teams they defeated, Gonzaga had the third easiest path to the NCAA Final in tournament history, since expanding the bracket to 64 teams.

San Diego, Pepperdine, Pacific, and Portland make up 40% of that conference. They went a combined 44- 84 last year. To put that in perspective, FORTY PERCENT of that conference won an average of 11 games out of a 32 game season.

And you want me to take the WCC seriously?

that easy path gonzaga had hackett included an 8 seed in the second round that they didn't lose to. unlike other number 1 seeds that may have been overrated

I never set Villanova as the standard of the ideal college basketball program. As much as I love them, they are far too inconsistent.

No, they shouldn't. While they aren't the standard of the ideal college basketball program, they win a lot of basketball games, and run a relatively clean, scandal-free program (I think there was one scandal at the start of Wright's Villanova tenure regarding telephones.) In addition, their student athletes have one of the highest graduation rates in the country.

Any junior high team would go undefeated against Villanova's schedule.

May as well say that once we're pretending all high school teams would go undefeated in the WCC.

Oh yeah, and Saint Mary's is objectively better than most of the Big East.

What statistics do you have to support these claims?

Who said that High-School teams would go undefeated in the WCC?

at the start of WCC conference play some guy once said it in this very thread.

"Might as well accept that Gonzaga is going to be the #1 overall seed. There isn't a high school in the country that can't go undefeated against that remaining schedule."

Right, their REMAINING SCHEDULE, not the entire schedule. That quote was made on Feb 1, 2017, when conference play was almost over. I never said a High-School team could go undefeated against the entire WCC.

Please quote me correctly in the future.

    It's equally stupid.

You said any HS team in the country could go undefeated against Gonzaga's remaining schedule.

Their remaining schedule at that point included two games against BYU and a game at Saint Mary's.

I'm not sure what the difference is between saying any HS team would go undefeated against the remaining schedule or against the WCC as a whole (excluding Gonzaga, of course, since you think they're equivalent to "any high school team").

Villanova wouldn't have even gone undefeated against Gonzaga's remaining schedule.

A BYU team that failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and a St. Mary's team that was somehow nationally ranked without garnering a single victory against a top 25 team the entire year.

Here is the difference: The number of games.

Starting on February 1, 2017, the date I posted the statement in question, Villanova went 10-1. In this stretch, they played seven games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament (Providence, Seton Hall twice, Creighton Twice, Xavier, and Butler). I am pretty sure that is more games against tournament qualifying teams that Gonzaga played all season. That being said, I have very high confidence in Villanova's ability to go undefeated against Gonzaga's remaining schedule from Feb 1.
