1. Mike Williams WR Clemson The kid is a stud. If this team wants to get serious they can start by taking a playmaker in round 1. Williams has it all; he is huge, fast for his size, and gets the ball at its highest point. He took a nasty freak fall and hurt his neck, but the kid came back and showed he is not scared of anything. Just get him the ball. His hands are great and he will be a dominant WR on the outside (think a mix of Kelvin Benjamin and Braylon Edwards). This team has selected only 2 WRs in the 1st since 1996...It is time to get a true #1 in the draft and give a young QB (either Hack or a 2017/2018 QB) his primary #1 target for a decade. 2. Adoree Jackson CB USC CB is still very much a need. Jackson has it all. He is very athletic, has great ball skills, and is an aggressive player. He also adds a boost to the teams return game. There will definitely be a good CB on the board with our 2nd pick. We should look to go defense and it would make a lot of sense to take the best CB left at the top of the 2nd round. This draft is loaded with them. Jackson had a hell of 2016 season and he flashed visible potential to be a starting CB in this league almost right away. 3. Julie'n Davenport OT Bucknell Davenport is a little raw but with some coaching and patience he can become a starting LT. He has the length and attributes to do it. Hopefully Shell shines at RT this season and is worth the trade up. However, we are once again rolling the dice with our starting LT. Beachum is a decent pick up and should hopefully be able to hold down the fort. But, he had a pretty terrible 2016 season and he could pull a Ryan Clady and get injured. We need to look to future and you can never have enough OTs. The Jets have neglected the OL in the earlier rounds since 2006 (Vlad Dumbass and Brian Winters are the only OL we have taken before round 4). 3. Jordan Leggett TE Clemson A big TE (6'5 250ish) that can block and catch. What more could we ask for at TE? This is something we have been desperately missing. Outside of Howard and Njoku I like Leggett the best and at the end of the 3rd he offers great value. Leggett is a stud and offers a lot in the pass catching and blocking game. He is really versatile and is a prospect that I am really excited about. 5. Jeremy McNichols RB Boise State McNichols is a dual threat RB. He also has some really good speed. The kid runs a 4.49 and he had 90 catches 950 yards for 10 TDs in the last two seasons. On top of that he ran for 3,000 yards and 43 TDs in the last two seasons. I am really excited about this kid as well and we would find quite the steal with him in the 5th. Forte and Powell both are very viable RBs but they are getting old and we need that youth speed coming out of the backfield. 6. Jalen Reeves-Maybin ILB Tennessee Reeves-Maybin has some talent and is a fiery LB. He really stands out in coverage. However, he was injured nearly the entire 2016 season. He also may not be able to add too much more to his 6 ft. 230 frame. Reeves-Maybin is a special teams contributor and a first to the pile kind of player. 7. Jamal Carter FS Miami Carter was a leader on the Miami defense and he was a good over the top, rangy safety. He lacks killer instinct but he is fast, quick, and can lay some people out. He did not have the best production, but he did what was asked and was a solid player for the Canes. He is not a quick twitch player at this point, but that could definitely develop through experience. Feedback appreciated!
Good job. I like this mock pretty well. One question...I have seen Davenport projected as a 4th-5th round pick. Isn't taking him at the top of the 3rd a bit of a reach, or do you think he will rise up draft boards? I haven't seen him play, but based on what I've read about him, his technique is very raw and he needs a lot of work, so is a project.
It very well could be. I would like Garcia more, but idk if he will be there. I have seen Davenport go in the 3rd/4th. Top of the 3rd might be a little high. Switching him with Leggett might be better. I wish our second third wasn't practically a 4th.
I like the mock, but I still don't understand the love for Mike Williams. This guy is great with back-shoulder fades and physical catches [not all of the time], but it appears his route tree is severely limited no? He does remind me a lot of Plaxico Burgess in a way. BTW, George Kittle would be a much better TE selection IMO, his nastiness and ability to block and make some catches would make him and ASJ a really good TE team.
Nice work......I wonder if we would have some maneuverability in trades if we indeed selected these guys. would be great to get another pick or 2, especially in rounds 2 and 3.
I don't think Williams has a severely limited route tree. He needs some route polishing but it is not major. I think he is the best WR to be projected a 1st round WR recently aside from OBJ, Evans, and Cooper. I think he is gonna be something special.
I like Mike Williams a lot and he would be a great addition to help develop a young QB. Thing is, I don't see Mac drafting one at #6. Would be very possible if they can trade down a few spots.
A good mix of "O" and "D", but I would differ on some of the particulars. First, I don't taking a WR - no matter how good he is - at 6. Howard, yes, because he can play like a WR, PLUS, block, making an upgrade on the OL as well. Second, do you really think a CB has more impact than a pass rusher? I would take the best p.r. at 2, unless Mahomes was still on the board, but going with your outline, and picking "D" with the 2nd pick, I would take the best p.r. still there. I like Davenport and Leggett, and McNichols, although his workload and wear and tear are a little bothersome. With Reeves-Maybin, do we need another "tweener"; how do you see him being used; injury concerns, especially if he's undersized and "fiery", meaning, reckless and prone to more injury. Taken all together, a pretty good draft on paper.
Just that the OL has been seriously neglected in general and that making an OT as a priority is a smart idea So out of all your selections that shows most insight imo Other than CB, TE or an ILB I don't really see other strong priorities for the Jets I like your TE Leggett and we will surely select on this draft. At Round 3 its where you can realistically grab the guy since the primo TEs likeHoward will be gone
There's a reason that Kittle is ranked as a 5th round pick and Leggett as a 3rd round pick. I haven't seen Kittle play, but I have seen Leggett on several occasions, and I can't conceive of Kittle being better. He may be a better blocker than Leggett, but he isn't a better receiver and I would think he's slower and more limited athletically since he's rated lower.
You don't see RB or FS as a priority? Powell's a nice back, but he's not a feature back. Forte is older, more injury-prone and not very fast. IMO he should not be starting. IMO the Jets don't have a starting RB on the roster and they need one, or at least need a power back. Similarly, the Jets don't have a decent FS on the roster. Gilchrist stinks and he may not even be healthy at the beginning of the season. Do you really want to see Rontez Miles or Middleton trying to cover receivers? IMO they are bigger priorities than the OL in this draft, not only because it's not a very good draft for OL, but at least the Jets have decent starters at 4 of the 5 OL positions, and Shell may prove to be at least decent or if Ijalana starts at RT, they'll have 5 decent starters. The Jets don't have a decent starter at either RB or FS. It's also quite likely that they don't have a starting pass-rushing OLB, either.
Kittle might be one of the best TE blockers I have ever seen in terms of run blocking / pass protection. He won't last until the 5th round. 4th round, with chance to go to the 3rd as his stock is increasing. I have never seen a TE block like him. He has good speed that can threaten down the field, amazing size [built like at truck]. Was never really utilized in the passing game. He has a certain nastiness about him that you love. He's not slow at all actually, his pro day he ran a 6.76 cone which was higher then most TEs. You need players like this on the team. He's probably my 2nd favorite TE in this draft outside of Howard.
I like Kittle a lot. But he is a 4th at best. Great blocking ability. However, how big is the player he is blocking in the video?
He's only allowed 1 sack when being asked to pass protect too, he is a 4th at best, I agree but I really think this kid can help the Jets in a big way. Hell I wouldn't even mind a double dip. Get Leggett in the 3rd and if Kittle drops to the 5th pick him up then too. https://www.profootballfocus.com/co...-george-kittle-best-all-around-tight-end-cfb/ Looks like it doesn't matter who it is, this guy mauls everyone.
Yes from top to bottom the team is a mess I have my Offense glasses on so I am just color blind to the needs of our defense who have been favored on draft day for decades IMO once we get a FQB we score points and don't look back. Skrine Gilchrist Miles are thee clowns that blew it every game No don't wanna see anymore of that...... Putting a RB as part of the attack sounds good too Seven or more needs is a lot and if Mac trades down I would be curious to see how this plays out and if the FO agrees with you in terms of their priorities NC
From the looks of the results of the play, it looks like Kittle should have blocked another 1-2 defenders! LOL
