For this mock, I won't include any trades. My dream scenario though would be to trade down at 6 to acquire picks in the 2018 draft to give us as much ammo needed to secure Darnold, Rosen, or Allen next year, all of which are light years better than any of this years QB class. I'll do a mock later on with trades.

1st Round) Malik Hooker, FS, OSU

I love this kid's game. His speed and range is almost unprecedented and he has the ability to take away the middle of the field and make QB's rely on throws outside the hashmarks. He does sometimes tend to be too aggressive in following the QB's eyes, but I'd prefer him to Fournette in terms of long term impact

2nd Round) Kevin King, CB, Washington

6-3, 220 lb CB with his coverage and movement skills?? I pray he falls to this spot. I see All-Pro potential for him and instant day 1 impact starter. Guys his size shouldn't be able to flip their hips and get their gears going like he does. Probably my 2nd CB in this class behind Lattimore.

3rd round) Tyus Bowser, OLB, Houston

Probably wishful thinking for me, but should he fall (and there is a chance) he's got to be BPA. His speed and bend is what we lack in our current crop of OLB's and with some seasoning, could become a steady 8-12 sack guy a year on the weak side. I think 10 more lb's on his frame would be ideal to help him with his run support without him sacrificing his athleticism.

3rd round (comp) Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson

Worst position group in the entire NFL last year was the Jets TE's. I know Gailey didn't use them in his offense but man they were terrible when called upon in all facets. Leggett changes all that. Big huge target with good speed and good hands to add another dimension to the seam for (insert name here) to throw to. Blocking is definitely a work in progress, but has the strength and frame to become an all-around 3 down TE for us once his technique is coached up

5th round) Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan

Late 1st/Early 2nd talent with the head of a UDFA. Costed himself millions as soon as he decided to put his hands on his girl. But if he can avoid jail, his talent level is well worth the risk in round 5. Slot corner only due to his size, but he sticks with the best of them and his ability to disrupt routes is 2nd to none. Would allow us to move on from Skrine after the season and drop his shitty contract.

6th round) Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU

Kid was highly touted out of high school, but college production never lived up to the hype, ala Joe McKnight (RIP). But has a ceiling of a high end WR2 after learning a pro-style route tree and how to do a better job at the line separating from more physical corners. Upside is easily worth a 6th rounder and would allow us to move on from Devin Smith and his injury plague.

7th round) Chad Wheeler, OT, USC

Jets need OL depth annually it seems, but this class is brutally bad. Hence why I didn't go after it earlier. Wheeler looks good coming off the bus, but will probably need to practice squad himself for a year or 2 to learn how to actually play the position in the pros. He needs help with strength, technique, footwork, hands etc... But should he be able to take to coaching and apply what he learns, he should be an quality swing Tackle/reserve for us

Next year I imagine the Jets will go hard after QB Round 1, and will build up the OL in the other rounds, along with draft Harris' replacement and Pryor's replacement. I wanted an RB somewhere, but couldn't decide where to slot one. Foreman almost made the cut over Bowser. Plus I also believe Powell is underrated and will be playing for a top-10 payday next time extension talks arise. Always love to hear thoughts and comments

Looks like a typical Jets draft to me... 3 defenders with the first 3 picks and no offensive weapons. Though you cant go wrong with either safety at the top of the draft and I think Leggett will be decent in the pros.

Inb4 offense force hating on your mock. Good draft btw ... secondary is rebuilt ... got a TE, and EDGE rusher.

Never heard of Bowser, is he as mean as the Mario villain? I'll have to research.

Yeah I thought the same thing LOL. But most of my top prospects are DEF and this draft is amazing to capitalize on all it has to offer on that side of the ball. I almost did Foreman or Mixon instead of Bowser in round 3 to give our OFF the weapon it craves out the backfield, but I'm quite high on Powell's potential as our main back with Forte to spell him.

Yeah in the mock with trades I'll eventually do, it'll be more offense oriented. I felt that besides OT, this draft hit on all our major needs, and gives us some real talent to build around. Plus if Shell builds off his end of year performances, he'll lock up starting RT duties long term. Next year should be a very offensive draft with QB round 1, and 2-3 OL in the early rounds, with a RB thrown in for good measure to replace Forte with. Bowser is a monster off the EDGE, and IRL will prob be taken Round 2.

My feeling is, who needs offense anyway. Not like this game today not all about offense.

Anyway we got young studs all across the O and have neglected the D in forever. Great job!

Sarcasm noted LOL. My next mock will be more offense oriented when some trades are taken into account.

No matter how strong your "D" is, the game is set up to allow points to be scored, especially in the 4th qtr. You are not going to counter that. Look what happened in the SB. You MUST have an offense that can keep up with the other team's offense because it's a foregone conclusion that they WILL score on you, no matter who you have on "D". Where was the Pats "D" ranked the past few years? They seemed to do okay. Enough of the romance with defense! Fix the damn offense!

Yea just messing around, I like a lot of the players you selected and can see a bunch of them having varying levels of NFL success. I personally am in favor of finally focusing on the offense though.

I'm not in favor of reaching for O just for the sake of drafting O but think each round we'll be in position to get a quality prospect on that side of the ball.

but you still have a point because the Patriots were 3rd in scoring offense! We gotta field a good team for sure, offense defense special teams maybe coaching

Like the draft. The Hooker / King combo would be a tremendous improvement to our depleted secondary. Nice job!

Imagine King and a healthy Claiborne on the outside, Lewis in slot, Hooker deep middle & unknown SS up in the box!!!! Doesnt even matter who the SS is, that secondary would be shutdown and able to gel together for years to come

I think you'll enjoy my next mock then. Still putting it together, but definitely should make the offense pundits on this site happy. At least until I remember it's Jets fans I'm trying to appease and get booed like Sanchez for my efforts LOL

I really like this draft. I don't know the players taken in the last two rounds, but they don't matter so much. The only problem with this draft is no RB. I don't think Powell can carry the load and Forte is too old and breaks down. IMO the Jets HAVE to get a RB in this draft as much as they do a TE and CB.

I really like Leggett, but I think with this draft, I'd forsake taking him, take a RB instead, and then take Sprinkle or another 2-way TE instead of Lewis.

What if it went something like this:

    1. Howard TE
    2. Quincy Wilson CB
    3. Dont'a Foreman RB
    3. Tarell Basham OLB
    5. Jon Toth C
    6. Fish Smithson FS
    7. Chad Wheeler OT

This might hit a little better towards filling out more needs, but I think the quality of it isn't as good as my original

New Legion of Boom! What a sexy secondary that would be. Don't forget Justin Burris who could get better next year!

Pryor would just roam around and lay the hammer in the immediate short routes and help in the run game.

While I love Howard, and like Foreman and Toth, I don't know Wilson or Basham or Smithson, so I can't really speak to the quality of this draft, but it definitely appears like it isn't of the same quality. Why not keep it basically the same, substitute Foreman for Leggett, and then either Toth, Jeremy Sprinkle, or George Kittle for Jourdan Lewis? IMO that would be the best of your drafts. You still greatly upgrade the secondary, add a speedy pass rusher, address the offense by adding a RB with power (which they need), either a TE or C, and an OT depth prospect.

    So:

    1. Hooker
    2. King
    3. Foreman
    3. Basham
    5. Sprinkle
    6. Corn Elder or Damontee Kazee
    7. Wheeler

I'm probably in the minority, but I still like my original draft strictly because of the value of Lewis' talent in round 5. But if this is how it fell, I'd still be very excited for this draft. I'll forego WR in this amendment to double dip @ CB in round 6
