Rd 1-Malik Hooker Fs Ohio State Rd 2- Pat Elfien C Ohio State Rd 3a- Teez Tabor Cb Florida Rd 3b- Jake Butt Te Michigan Every one of these guys would be starters day 1 (except maybe butt depending on injury). It will overhaul the offense and defense. A step in the right direction.
Your 2nd pick is for a position we already have filled? Teez Tabor is way over-rated. And a S - even one supposedly as good as Hooker (if he's healthy) - doesn't have the same impact for this team as upgrading the "O" skill positions or getting an elite pass rusher. Aside from these questions, I agree with you.
The center posi the center position is filled already?? You are really that confident in johnson huh? I'm not, elfeirn will be a pro bowl center for years to come. Tabor sticks to his man as good, if not better than any other cb in this class. That 40 time thing is overblown.
The "C" position is filled better than QB, RB, TE, Edge, LT are. Maybe his 40 time is overblown, but there's one truth that can't be disputed: You can't coach speed. Now if that's the ONLY thing you have, it's not enough, but speed makes up for a lot of other shortcomings. Really, I can tell from your picks that we're way apart philosophically so I won't go any further. We all have our preferences, which is fine. As an old friend once related to me what his grandfather always said: "If everyone only ate vanilla, they'd have to throw all the chocolate away".
Norman also ran a 4.7 and hes doing fine. Sherman was a 4.6. Corners generally don't sprint down the field 40 yards to cover someone.
Good point and 40 yard dash is over rated. You can train and increase your speed that is how you have those workout warriors (Gholston, Mike Mamula). Short area quickness is a better gauge for cornerbacks.
This would be more than depressing if our draft unfolded like this. We have no QB that we can feel just comfortable with right now. Taking a center when we have 2 now already is overkill. Everyone knows why I would not take Hooker. I feel Macc has gotten the littlepieces in free agency to help the offense. Now we need the draft to get some talent on that side of the ball. This draft does not have any immediate starters on it and that is a problem.
Draft another qb? Its such a waste. Thats how the roster gets depleted. Keep drafting qbs and if they dont do well in the first year then draft another the year after. They need time to develop, not get thrown into the trash after a year or two. You would pass on a potential pro bowl center because the jets have a below average center and a scrub on the team?
Ron Wolf the GM of the Packers and the guy who searched for our current GM believed in drafting a QB every year until you find one. He traded for Favre and drafted Aaron Rodger. If you get two QB even better then you can trade one like he did to Seattle for a ton of picks. That is how you rebuild a roster and stay competitive. There is no way you can say a guy is a potential pro bowler especially at center. Potential means they haven't done it yet. The Jets have no offensive talent right now. Just a bunch of pieces like Forte and a injured Decker. Probably the worst QB situation since the Al Woodall days. Not one player the Jets could turn to if they needed a huge play.
That's all I'm asking. You never know when you might get lucky like Dallas got with Prescott. Now Dallas has a tradeable asset in Romo. Or you can hold on to him. Either way nice choices to have. Currently on the Jets roster we have nada, zero, zilch.
Dallas has a completely different situation than the jets. If prescott was on the jets last year he would look terrible. You have to build the house(roster) before having someone move in(qb). Using draft picks year after year on qbs destroys the talent on the roster to a point no qb can succeed.
Have you seen Tabor play? Obviously not. He sticks to his man on every route that isn't a fly, and makes good plays to break up the pass in the form of ripping at the receivers hands. I watch a decent amount of SEC football when I do watch college football and they easily had the best cover tandem in the county. He's a good football player and to me would be a good player to get that late. He's not elite. But he'll find a place to play in this league if he squashes the character concerns.
Yes, I've seen him play twice. Most of the college ball that is shown here is either ACC or SEC. He was pretty good, but don't remember the specifics. He didn't jump off the screen at me, however. With so many WRs and even TEs running faster than 4.7 I just don't think he will be as effective in the NFL as he was in college.
IMO. Tabors slow 40 is because he's not a track star. He's slow out of the blocks. Thank god you don't play football like that . I was listening to XM radio this morning and they were saying his tree cone drill was very good
The irony to all that about Wolf drafting QB's is that his most successful QB acquisition was Brett Farve on a trade in 1991. Those 6 that he drafted during Favre's tenure, were nothing more than tossing the dice for an adequate backup. Of those 6, Detmer, Brunell, Hasselback went on to other teams with mixed careers. Packers hit a home run with Rogers, for sure, though 23 other teams passed on him....just goes to show you how much of a crap shoot it is.
That's a good analogy, and why you need to throw the dice as often as you can. You can't "set the dice up" to make just one good throw, you have little or no control over them, so the only thing you can control is how much, or when, you wager. The fewer throws you make, the less chance you have of winning. This is why you need to draft a QB every year until you get what you want. Now, you can lessen your risk of loss by drafting them late, but you also lessen your chance of success in finding a FQB. So what it comes down to is how much you're willing to risk. How much do the Jets have to lose vs. how much do they stand to gain by taking a QB at 6? IMO, whichever position they skip in order to take a QB, they can find an almost as good replacement value with their next pick. That leaves the question of: How well can they identify QB talent? I'm not confident they can, especially after the Hack pick, so taken all together, picking a QB at 6 is a high risk play. For me personally, not knowing how many more seasons I have to wait, I say go for it anyway. But I can certainly see the wisdom of taking someone like Fournette or Howard at 6, and looking for a QB later.
