Maybe it means nothing, but I think it's a warning flag that Mitch Trubisky has recently insisted that he be called MITCHELL Trubisky. Is this really that important? To me, it hints at a sensitivity and thin skin, traits that don't bode well for someone who will be playing in the spotlight, and possibly in the brightest light of all - NY.

This is just more reason for the Jets to skip him, in addition to the fact that he only played 13 games. As badly as I want the Jets to take a QB this year, I don't want that to be MITCHELL. He has all the signs of The Sanchize, Part Deux.

FWIW, here's the report on the Jets giving him a private workout:

If i'm passing on Trubisky it's going to be because of his play not his name.

There shouldn't be anything in a name but I would drop the Jets like a hot potato if they ever drafted a guy named Osama bin Laden Hitler to play QB.

Seriously, on the original topic: how is this any different from a Michael asking to be called Michael instead of Mike?

    Michael Jordan
    Michael Vick
    Etc.

Another way of looking at it is he just wants to honor the name he was given.

That one would be on the Ruby Rodd scale and I guess it would be fine. :)

Yes!! Jets should skip this player if he falls to #6, lol....mitch to mitchell to many extra letters to sew on....

Believe me, for the Milwaukee Bucks to grasp the change that Lew Alcindor asked to be called ; Kareem Abdul Jabbar , that had to be a real sticky issue for them. Not sure you can compare it with Trubisky's request, but I dont think it's that big of deal.

Given the fact that most people you encounter, especially in the professional space, provide the courtesy of asking whether you prefer Mitchell or Mitch, Nicholas or Nick, Michael or Mike, etc., I don't see any issue with having a preference with how he's addressed. It's not like he's asking to be called something outlandish like "OchoCinco." The guy wants to use his proper, given name in his professional career. Oh the horror. For all you know, he may have been named after a grandfather or someone else important to him, and prefers to be referred to by the formal name.

Here's the full quote: "Someone asked me what my mom preferred and that was the answer. She prefers Mitchell. It doesn’t bother me if you call me Mitch because a lot of people call me Mitch, including my teammates. They both sound good. I was trying to do my mom a favor and it actually made her happy. So, despite the media whirlwind that it kicked up into, my mom was happy. If I can do that for my mom, I really don’t care."

I know it's fun to invent character issues for players (but still draft Manziel in the first), but this one takes the cake.

Uh oh. He's a spineless mama's boy that can't make decisions for himself. Huge red flag. o_O

Yeah, upon reflection (and your quote that I didn't know about) which I should've done before posting, this was a dumb thread to start. Sorry.

I need to build a "DELAY POST" button into my computer to prevent this kind of thing.

I don't care if his name is Nancy, if he can play QB at the NFL level I want him.

Thinking this thread is some kind of joke, at least I hope it is.
