This guy is a good backup QB. He's been all over the place, worked for a lot of OCs and HCs, and when he has come in for spot work he looks decent. By all reports he is an even keeled teammate and it sounds like he's over trying to be a starter. His health is secondary unless the Jets try to do the unthinkable and make him a starter. The anger in this thread is likely from Fitz-trauma or spurred on by emotions custom-spurred by dickhead sports writers. The real problem is that there is no clear starter at QB in March. Which is a valid concern, but it's still March. And the fears are validated by the fact that the team was ready to go with Geno 2 years ago and ended up going all in with a career backup. Sooooo... I understand the panic posts in this thread, because there's no reason to believe this FO/CS has learned a lesson. But there's also a chance that history won't repeat itself.
Too many people seem to be under the impression that the jets are thinking about being chasing the playoffs are something this year... We are the 76ers right now. Trust the process. Winning is not an option!
Get ready for the unthinkable. Bowles will default this guy as the opening day starter, which will cut into Petty and Hack's reps and set them up for failure. Its going to happen. If they draft a QB they will either go with 4 QB's again or cut Petty and have noone behind McCown who has played in a game. Or they dont draft a QB and a few of these prospects pan out. The Jets will be the team that had a high draft pick and could have grabbed their guy in the 2nd round but opted to sign a 37 year old QB rather than draft the next Derek Carr. You know with these Jets that is a high probability. And if being all over the place, working for alot of OC's and HC's is evidence McCown is a good backup, then Fitz was the best backup that ever lived. Fitz was an awesome mentor to the young guys. Did you know he graduated from Harvard?
If they decide to go with 4 QB's with McCown the starter by the 2-3 game it will be back to 3qbs because McCown will be firmly planted on IR. He was injury prone the last 2-3 years and he's only getting older...His style of play does him no favors but it's fun to watch!
As long as Petty and Hack don't get punched in the face, we'll be fine. Then again, one of Hack's errant throws might break Petty's jaw.
To be fair to Idzik, Macc cleared up cap room for contracts he signed. The big difference between Idzik and Macc is that Idzik whiffed on his drafts whereas Macc has done some nice things.
Mac hit on a higher percentage of his picks than Idzik, but with fewer picks overall (which is Mac's fault because he traded them away) he has to do better than that. So far he's only gotten one starting caliber player in Leo. He has a few who might be starters in the future, but overall his drafts look below league average.
Let's not get into a Macc vs Idzik pissing contest, because there is no comparison between the two. Idzik had 12 picks in 2014 to rebuild the team and whiffed on all of them with the exception of diamond in the rough Enunwa. Two drafts, three players remaining on the team. Let's not be silly now.
When I could not give Macc an A because he let the best tackle in football just walk away, some of you laughed and said he wasn't even the best tackle on the Giants. This chart says he's the best tackle in football. I win. Macc doesn't get his 'A'. http://nypost.com/2017/03/24/one-giant-d-lineman-facing-financial-reality-check/
other then drafting Leonard williams with the 6th pick in 2015 and that was a GIFT. Any GM could have did that. All his other draft picks have not looked good and his FA/trades only lasted 1 season.
You have to give draft picks at least two years to develop. Also Bowles coaching staff has been mediocre in getting the best out of players. You know this from some free agents looking worse in Jet Green than they did in other uniforms. Guys like Forte, Skrine, Gilchrist, McClendon all had better play elsewhere.
I think signing McCown is consistent with rebuilding. Either hack or petty show they can step it up and beat him out or he simply holds the reins and shows professionalism. The QB must be at least be a leader and example. A struggling and immature QB is a huge distraction and hurts the development of the rest of the young players. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
McCowns record speaks for itself....2-20 I can imagine the teams he won against lol Newsflash: We are not winning in 2017...Toilet Bowles can play whomever he wants at QB but gut says same results
The jets wont be good until Woody Johnson dies or (hopefully) sells the team the title of this thread should be changed
Mac has traded away a few picks, but Idzik had 12 picks in 2014, and I don't think he did anything to add those extra picks.
