Petty was given opportunities and he basically showed the weaknesses coming a one read system. Only reason to get rid of him is if they take QB they think can contribute immediately.
I really hope the Jets cut Petty. I've been praying for that to happen since last year's debacle. The New York Jets have no idea how to develop Qb's, or even how to draft one for that matter. The Jets are the franchise where old Qb's come to cash out, and young Qb's come to have their careers ruined before they start. The worst thing that ever happened to Bryce Petty was being drafted by the Jets. I could probably say the same for Hack too looking at how well he developed so far. Put either kid in a franchise that knows what a good Qb looks like and I'm sure you'd see a vastly different player on the field. #FreePettyNow!
The Jets don't need a #2 QB. They need a starter. At this point if you don't feel that Petty could develop into that you need to draft someone else to replace him.
The Jets paid McCown $6 mil which is the same SF paid Hoyer. I really do believe he is coming here to start. Remember who the coach is too!
Maybe they'll draft another QB and leave an odd man out by the end of preseason. I'm not against the McCown signing (a bit too much money though), but I really hope he's not the one starting..
Petty should be on the chopping block. how long are we going to keep him on scholarship? draft another qb and make him earn his spot. next year hack goes on the same block. keep the cycle going and you will find a qb.
I always liked Petty as a player who stayed clean but his football skills have not shined here Gut says he wants a trade or another team for some REAL coaching
I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's a 50/50 chance he starts or is the 3rd QB on the depth chart.
Petty hasn't shown anything to indicate he'll be the short or long term answer. Mac would be justified in taking another mid to late round QB and seeing how he develops, and you certainly don't carry 3 developmental QBs on the roster, hence McCown. While we won't get that lucky, you don't pass on potentially finding that next late round gem QB, because of Bryce Petty.
The Jets would need to be convinced beyond reasonable doubt that he has no future in the league to give up his rookie contract / cap hit. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
No reason to draft a QB this draft, if they think Hack and Petty both have futures, there is no need to add another young QB to the roster.
there's every reason to take a QB this draft and every draft until we find someone good...what we've got is a pile of shit
While I agree with you and it reflects Ron Wolfs approach to selecting and developing QBs. The jets will never develop a QB with the trifecta of TB as the HC, and Macs approach on building the oline with a collage of late round draft picks and signing rehabbing olinemen that are coming off injuries. I guarantee that at some point this year the trenches on the offensive side of the ball will collapse again because of the feeble attempts to just get by.
Nonsense. You have no idea what we have. Jets need to see what Hack can do this year. They need to see what Petty can do with a few games of tape under his belt. Nothing good? Move on next year and draft one. There is no room for 4 QBs on this roster unless you are making a very quick choice on Petty.
Take a QB if you think you're getting good value. Don't take the best available QB at 6 just because you feel the need. That would be dumb and counterproductive.
Same, I don't think they are. I definitely agree with what you said above. Give them the 1 year and if they don't show anything draft another one and keep the competition going. The same will happen to Hack next year if he doesn't show anything. I just don't want to see any of these QBs leave the roster without a true evaluation.
