There's nothing wrong with this. Pure stopgay and veteran presence for the kids. He may start the year as the starter but he certainly won't end as it. This team will be bad, you just hope Hack or Petty can take the reigns and run with it next season and at least have a clear indication if the future is on the roster.

Going into next season with McCown, Petty, and Hack would be a bad bet for Mac. This is why I surmise Mac gets a qb at 6.

I really may not watch if McCown starts, which based off the contract, he's in line to.

Going into camp it should be Petty vs Hack, that's it.

All we can really do is hope Hackenberg beats him out. It's the only way this season will be exciting, and it'd be kinda disappointing if he couldn't after a redshirt year.

Agreed, IMO they gave him a little more change to help massage in the reality of his signing. "Josh, were going to be straight up with you, we ARE going to let you compete for the starting job. Though that's were it ends and begins. We want you to push Petty and Hack in camp, mentoring them if you will. If we like what we see out of them, you might not be playing, but you'll be getting paid handsomely to be said mentor. Now if they are clearly not ready, we will let you start the season, playing until they ARE ready. The longer it takes, the more money you'll make. Thanks Josh, help yourself to those ginger snap cookies."

Very fitting. With the way this team has devolved, I have the feeling that the Jets are about to replace the Browns as the graveyard of the NFL for the next 10 years at least.

This sounds like there's every incentive for Bowles to play him.

He can throw beyond 20 yards, which automatically makes him better than Fitz. Honestly out of all the crap, and never-ever-coming-here options, this is the least offensive. Personally I find it unrealistic to assume macbowles know how to build a winning product. Being #8 in the mccown national tour is right where they need to be. Enough rope to hang them all, but not enough rope to hang their replacement.

Amazing. We have gone from Steve Beuerlein to Steve DeBerg. In other words, the Football Gods have told us Jet fans that even though they have already shot us in the hearts, they are now going to poison us, too.

I was honestly just like ehh whatever 2 mill for a scrub vet because we need a scrub vet (why I don't really know but anyway)

And then I saw 6 million plus some dumb incentives...huh??

Im honestly baffled why we just dump 6 million for a QB that offers zero relative to our situation...Please someone explain

And yes I realize 6 mill is not a lot for a starting/fringe QB but it's literally a waste to me. We just signed a starting CB with some upside for less

6 million isn't much for a starter historically. Geno smith was a starter for like a fraction of mccown, is a complete imbecile, a terrible leader and got 2 mill to sit behind eli.

Is there any question that the Jets are in tank mode after this move? Drowning for Browning? Dosin' for Rosen?

My point is that it's a complete waste of 6 million...would have rather paid Geno (or anyone else for that matter 2 mil or less)

Like what is a McCown bringing for 6 million plus incentives that someone like Geno couldn't for a third of the price??

Either way we lose games and are most likely an embarrassment

Just bad business again...kinda like wasting 12 mil last year on Fitz

That's not really helping your argument. I'd rather have geno smith at $2 mill than Mcclown at $6 million. That's an easy decision and I think geno smith is a jackass
