You need three QB's. How many we got? I lost track, lol. If they don't draft anybody it could mean they like Hack or Petty. Then again they may be insane and like all the four QB on the Jets talk in the media and draft somebody too....
The only thing I want is whoever is the QB earns it..... if we bring McCown in fine, but it needs to be a 3 way competition where the winner takes all not like the competition we had for Geno and Sanchez
The fact that it's McCown and not Cutler is enough for me. Haha, Cutler will have to find a backup role somewhere. Imagine that.
This is true. And it demonstrates the sorry state of this franchise in one sentence. McCown is the right move at this point.
There is not going to be an even split straight up competition. bowles does not operate that way. he is going to annoint a starter who will keep the job as long as bowles feels he should.
Agree 100%. What would be stupid, reaaaaally stupid is not to have a vet in the background when you basically have two unknown rookies, may be 3 after the draft, and a high probability for injuries coming out of preseason. . You need to see what we have, but you cant get them killed if they are not ready. Plus an added set of arms for training camp. This is exactly what we should do, get a back up that can hold the fort if all goes to shit.
Eh, being a veteran alone doesn't make you a mentor; its an attitude thing. McCown (purportedly) is interested in mentoring younger players; Revis isn't. Simple as that.
Fine with it. He has experience. Let him endure the tough schedule over our two young QB's. I think they are gonna keep sitting Hackenberg until they feel he is ready.
The Jets are interested in a player that: has a willingness to help young QBs (to the best of his abilities), will come dirt cheap, is good enough to not impede the growth of the players around him if he starts, shows an aptitude for coaching (positive influence on a team that needed this badly last year), and someone to shield Hack from premature exposure if that's the best course for him to take. Why the #%@& are people complaining about this?! If the the coaching staff who has evaluated Hack for the last year think that sitting him another season is best, then this move is nothing but good. Obviously this type of move signifies they are putting they're eggs in the Hack or Petty basket. If one of them wins out and looks to be the clear TC winner then they start and there's a good vet presence as backup for cheap. In NO WAY is this a move to secure the future at QB moving forward, calm down.
I doubt the Jets are crazy about signing him but the reality is next year is a rebuilding year. There's probably no better QB in the league for that kind of team than this guy. You sign him cheap he gets hurt after a few and then you play the young guys. With any luck he can mentor the youth and maybe even if hell freezes he becomes a coach after retiring, which most around the league think he will be. It's worth a shot once you get past the player.
teams carry 3 qbs. it is a fore gone conclusion that they will add someone with more experience to at least go in to camp with. so if it is not this cheap, way past prime scrub it will be some other, perhaps not as cheap, not as past pirme scrub. so, since the m.o. doesn't to be changing anytime soon, this seems like the best scrub to take if you want the kids to play. i.m.o.
The move is fine in a vacuum if you look at it that way As others have said...a shitty vet QB on the roster is like a dangling carrot for Bowles to start as long as pleases with no real competition as the team tanks along I would much rather go Hack Petty and draft pick to save Bowles from himself...Also what are we winning with some scrub like McCown? No point in not having 3 instead of 2 potential QBs
