Honestly at this point as far as I can tell...we will probably be in a similar situation even if we try at all costs not to tank

Might as well do it correctly

And what exactly is guaranteed with that record? Even if they "achieve" it, what guarantee is there that Darnold will be the FQB?

If by "correctly" you mean playing Petty or Hack no matter what and seeing what the young guys can do, then yeah, I agree, but by week 8 when the flames are leaping up the sides of the stadium it's going to be almost impossible for the Jets to withstand the fan outrage. I seriously doubt Bowles can, and he will pull the plug in any development and try to win as many games as he can, thus putting your chance for whoever the QB Savior in 2018 is in jeopardy.

Well there is never a guarantee with QBs but I don't think it's much question that Darnold is the next big QB prospect. The questions are are the Jets going to be bad enough to be in position, which I have my doubts and even if they are does he give up 2 years of college eligibility?

Trust me, I'm with you. I do not want to blow this opportunity this year to get whichever QB they like best for the unlikely event of drafting Darnold next year. Even if we drafted a QB this year, there would be nothing stopping the new regime from taking Darnold next year if that's how it aligns.

I would prefer to play Hackenberg or Petty. I just said a solid veteran should be signed cause they are important to NFL rosters. I wouldn't want Petty, Hackenberg and a rookie making up the QB room. Hopefully if Cutler or a vet like him is signed, one of the young guys beats them out in camp. I just want one on the roster.

Idk why we did not sign Nick Foles. Dumbass decision. He only cost 6 million.

There are no saviors out there is what I mean

We can either "tank" with the young QBs and see what we got with them or just plain suck with any other vet QBs out there

I think fans will be more receptive to sucking with atleast a plan for the future

How pissed off will fans be if Cutler is the QB and we're staring at 2-8?? No future no nothing

I think we're on the same page with this.

Here's what those who don't want to draft Mahomes or Watson this year need to consider:

    1. At SOME point - this year, next year, the year after - the Jets will need a FQB.
    2. There is NO guarantee that this FQB will be available to the Jets in 2018 or 2019.
    3. While neither Mahomes or Watson are consensus FQBs, it doesn't mean that there aren;t some experts who think they can be, and also, the "experts" have often been wrong, so if Macc thinks these guys are legit, he should take one now.
    4. Worst case, if you take Mahomes or Watson this year and he proves to be a bust, you can always draft a new QB next year.

Jets offense pretty much never recovered from the Decker loss. Everything started to downward spiral during the Jets road game in KC. Decker is sorely needed back. He's a playmaker in the redzone.

The question is can Cutler bring any veteran leadership or knowledge to the young guys like Petty and Hack? I doubt it. He seems like an ass, so the Jets would clearly just be signing him to start you would assume.

Jay Cutler .. what can I say about Jay Cutler. IMO he's a quality QB but one that all you get is arm talent. Don't expect a leader in any way shape or form, vocal nor by example. Don't expect him nither to help groom our young QB's. But DO expect some type of drama unfold around him.

It's funny how when we are in full rebuild mode, we might go out and get a quality QB. Go figure. I will be fully disappointed if we sign this locker room virus and open up the check book doing so. I will be fully disappointed if his signing in some way stunts our young QB's growth. And I will be mostly disappointed if our young QB's do not see playing time due to him.

Finally IMO we will receive a top 5 pick in next years draft, with or without Cutler. We will be fielding a losing team and Cutler will not change that, he's not going to make those around him better nor rally the troops. What irks me most is the playing time and reps he takes from our young QB's. I would like the front office to evaluate Petty and Hack with a full season of playing time before using a high draft pick on a QB. Also having a high draft pick doesn't even guarantee one of the top QB's next year. For one some are young and they might not even declare for the draft, as QBs have done so to avoid being drafted by a certain team or just want to stay in school for another year. It would also be so much more fruitful to use that pick in some other way rather than on a QB knowing our guy is on the roster. Thats me wishful thinking. Petty and Hack better be working on their games as we speak as there windows are closing fast!

You took the words right out of my mouth. God I wanted Cutler so bad 6 years ago. Now? I'm leery. He has tremendous arm talent and God knows our young receivers are screaming for that kind of arm, but it always seems like he doesn't give a single shit about winning or losing. Maybe we are wrong about him, but when have you ever seen him pissed on the field? At this type he needs to be SOME type of leader.

Still, it would be nice to some laser beams and deep throws on this team. He'd become Robby Anderson's best friend quickly.

This is it in a nutshell, I don't know how the NFL has brainwashed the fans into thinking that you have to have a 3rd scrub QB on the roster.

This is all on TB, I'm telling you that buba gump mimicking, no good HC wants nothing to do with developing a QB.

He should know that it takes 6 weeks for a new offense to start clicking, unless you have a FQB that comes in and makes it work.

He should be chomping at the bits to get one of the kids behind center just so he can get the growing pains out of the way.

Usually I'd be the first to say stay far far away from the overrated USC QB hype... but when I watch game film on Darnold I see the full package.
He can literally make all the throws (Downfield, medium and short range accuracy.. can fit the ball in very tight windows, back shoulder, playaction, throw on the run... it's all there!) .. his confidence and poise in the pocket is very admirable, as well as his footwork and technique. Scans the field quick and carefully going through his reads.. He's a guy that can start right away. You can just see it in his game, plus the Trojans running a somewhat pro-style offense helps.

Darnold IMO just comes with a lot less uncertainty than any QB I've seen in a while.. maybe next year things will change.. it happens like that, but seeing what we saw last year.. he's special.

EDIT: I do love me some Pat Mahomes too! His upside is crazy! I'd be content with him.

Agree 100%! Just to not completely kill our players confidence, progression or faith in the team/coaching staff during this rebuild.

Okay, I did my "due diligence" and watched the video - thanks for that BTW - but in truth it's a P.R. Highlight reel. Yes, of course he looks good, and does make a lot of good throws, but he also has only played one year. Remember a "phenom" called Mark Sanchez? I'll grant that the odds are favorable that he can become a good, if not great, NFL QB, but that's dependent on his staying healthy, NOT such a solid guarantee. And of course, he may decide to not come out in 2018, so what's the Jets plan then - "Suck For Sam Again"? And finally, even if he stays healthy, AND declares for 2018, what's the guarantee that the Jets get to pick him?

There are so many pitfalls in a plan that is based upon "Suck For Sam", it makes no sense to place all you eggs in that basket. And beyond all that, from the video I don't see his arm being superior to Mahomes's arm, nor do I see him beating teams like Alabama like Watson did to win the N.C. I just don't see him as so head-and-shoulders-above Mahomes and Watson that I would pass over them this year for a chance at getting next year.

His game film is legit too! I know not to fall for the highlights, that's the lazy way out.. was just showing the different kinds of passes he's capable of making.

And I also agree with you on what do we do if we can't get him.. we'd be stuck in our same old jet ways... I'm all for Watson or Mahomes this year I really am.. I just got a feeling someone will jump us for Watson and Mahomes at 6 just wouldn't be all that smart to me unless things really kick up for him over the next month. I'd rather us trade down to get him.

Two late season meaningless wins in '14 took us out of the running for Mariota.

    What's the new rallying cry?

    Fold for Darnold!?

*not sure how his name is pronounced
