Two choices as I see it. You can blow during the storm but the high winds will work against you. If you absolutely need your driveway, I would try to wait until the snow starts to abate before blowing. The other option is to wait until the storm is over AND your local plow boys are finished with your street. They will create a wall of snow in front of your driveway and you'll be shoveling that out instead of blowing. Sidewalks and your driveway can be done quickly with the blower if you drop a layer of salt before the snow starts but that snow wall will be a bitch. Make sure you get your mailbox cleared as well or you won't see any mail until the snow is gone. If you know anyone with a blade, just drop a $20 or so on them and have them blast thru that snow wall and do your driveway/mailbox at the same time.
Isn't the best strategy to have 10 year old boys and tell them to take the snow off the driveway and build a snowfort in the mounds already on the front lawn? That's how my dad did it back in the day.
Thanks @Cman60 Understood Br4d. I have 10 year old twins soon to be 11. How soon is too soon to have then shovel the entire driveway?
Try the snowfort thingy. Go out with them and help for the first 20 minutes then have your wife call you back into the house to help with something. The kids should stay with it all afternoon. When they come in and ask you to come out and see it go out and look it up and down with a critical eye. Finally turn to them and say: "that's a great snowfort! Almost as big as the ones I made when I was your age." They'll be at it until dark trying to beat the old man. Trust me on this.
Now aint this one a good one to sit back and predict. Brook....medium with power outage risk. Great job guys!!! Nothing to add..checking out models now to see if any updates.
Man..Euro is impressive. The only thing to add is that those even in interior could have numbers cut down by sleet. Interior being east of I95 from Trenton on north. Madison no problem....FJF no problem..CBG doubt a problem that far north. Oh boy...you guys are in for a ride. There will be little open until Thursday morning. Euro pointing out heavy snow even overnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Again...the only issue I see for huge totals... 16+... is sleet and that's what you want to watch to the south in Jersey early tomorrow morning. Easy to track where that's happening. Other than that....enjoy!! FJF..keep an eye on the short term models after tonights runs. EURO/GFS become less effective. because of their 6 or 12 hour intervals.
Hey jay. what do you think for start time up by me? i think around 7 am TWC says earlier. trying to coordinate work shifts for snow removal
Still calling for snowmageddon out here in central pa. 12-17" on tap. No changeover from Philly to points west.
Madison has been upgraded to 18"-24". Forget giving shovel to my 10 year old boys. I will hire professional help. Forget the Ariens as well. I am not gonna deal with this much snow.
Chicken! Your 28" Ariens is more than up for 24" of snow. This is where the Ariens strut their stuff!
Chicken Schmicken. Not dealing with 24 inches of snow Grandpa. Will drink hot cocoa with little marshmallows and enjoy the white world.
Think you might be correct. Remember...looks like it comes in like a lion. Not a normal slowly gets harder. When it starts..within a few hours it hits peak and stays there for 8 to 12 hours. Anything after 7am looks difficult. BROOK...Come on boss....this is a 3 timer with the snowblower buddy!!! 11am 3pm 7pm. You will be fine. Never let the driveway get to more than 8 inches.
lol SB. Brook will be fine. Ok..latest from the NWS..Im officially sick to my stomach that I'm not up there...holy crappola. WOW. FJF...FJF...ITS GOING TO BE BAD BY 7AM I BELIEVE. Careful with TWC...They are weak with that stuff. FROM THE NWS: ...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EDT TUESDAY NIGHT...
