Bill never overpays, he will raise the price for the jets and then say ok you guys can have him. He will draft a young LB and plug and play the kid and make the kid a SB champ. It's about the system with bill not the players.
Henderson and Lee inside is a joke ... if we cut Harris and sign Hightower at 10 mil per that would still leave us with a nice chunk of cap space keeping in mind we would free up another 9 mil once Sheldon is traded ... we're at 18 mil now so that would leave us with 25 mil in cap space
Cutting overpaid veterans, solidifing and making our OL younger, singing Beachum and Hightower, that would be really good start of rebuilding process, all of left would be having a good draft.

Mac should stick to his budget, don't overpay. Let someone else overpay. The jets can always select Reuben Foster and get him cheaper with same potential. Just an option, not saying it has to be done.
I'm not a fan of this actually. I wanted to draft him a while back, but the money and 27 years of age just isn't worth it. If ILB is a big need draft Foster.
The Jets will only have the slimmest of shots at him if NE decides to pass..and they may at the last second after forcing the Jets to overpay...they soooo own this team it's a disgrace.
$10 mil probably doesn't get it done. He was approached by the Pats about an extension at that price during the season.
He wants to be the highest paid LB so Keuchly money ($12m+). Given our situation I'd probably stay away at that price.
We wouldn't need Hightower if Darron Lee had played the least bit worth a fuck on the inside. Assuming Mac signs Hightower? Lee will never play another down inside. Minnie Mouse sucked playing inside and this report proves it. Lee will play outside in 2017 assuming he can add the 20 pounds of muscle as a prerequisite to the job. Otherwise, it's Safety city for Verne Troyer.
I think the idea would be to draft a player like Derek Barnett or Harris to put his hand down and then we could successfully run a 4-3 look. Barnett-Simon-Wilk-Leo Lee-Hightower-Jenkins?? The only player who doesn't completely fit that alignment is Jenkins on the strong side although strong side OLB isn't a terribly hard position to fill. I've been clamoring for a 4-3 look for ages due to all the youthful talent we have along the front. We're really just missing that one speed rusher along the outside. Hightower is also versatile enough to play in the 3-4 if we want to play both alignments. I just hope Bowles is open minded enough to play a mix of both if we sign him and doesn't stay married to the blitzing 3-4. With the emphasis on the short passing game and quick option routes made successful by the Patriots, 3-4 blitzing and attacking defenses are easily neutralized if your linebackers are slower traditional 3-4 players. That's why Lee was drafted. To allow us to stay in a more traditional base defense even against passing formations. And I think he's going to improve in coverage. His coverage numbers look poor on the surface but he translated a lot better than those numbers indicated. Some players like Jimmy Graham made spectacular plays over him that I can't really blame him for.
Derrick Brooks and Thomas Davis both played/play the position at 235. If you can beat the blocker to the spot you don't have to worry about taking him on. He has a lot to work to do in getting better with instinctually recognizing plays so he can get to those spots before the guards do, but he's on the right path. Not sure why you hate him so much. He definitely needs to get stronger but he's not too far away from being a very good NFL linebacker.
