So we should sign Victor Cruz to because pre injury he was the best WR in the league? Some guys never bounce back from a serious injury they lose a step permanently.

    3 yrs/$24mn with $12mn guaranteed doesn't seem too bad.

This isn't bad at all. At this rate I'd like to see a 4 year contract.

I'm a fan of this signing. He's young, natural LT so he'll easily start. He aided in the Jags line last year to their lowest number of sacks allowed since 2007.

    Good move.

Terms aren't bad at all. Nice pickup if he can stay healthy.

I don't want to exaggerate or anything, but I'm absolutely convinced this is one of the best FA-signings overall in the NFL for this (off-)season. We just have to compare it to some other OL-signings: OT Mike Remmers got a $30 million deal for 5 years; Broncos gave OT Menelik Watson $18.3 million for 3 years; OT Matt Kalil (!!!) got $55M with $25M guaranteed for 5 years! Beachum is so much better than these guys...

After the deal Beachum will be 31, which can be a critcial age for OT (e.g. Clady). 8 millionen p. a. for an OT, who was on his way to become one of the best left tackles in the NFL (pre ACL) and is now a healthy (!) year (with 15 starts at LT) away from his injury: This is a freaking good deal.

    Not a sing
Beachum IMO is a great signing. Certainly needed a LT more than anything else. But by no means is the OL any good after one acquisition. If you think Wes Johnson is the answer, you're nuts. This line will be complete garbage without at least a Center, if not a Center and a RT. I would think Mac could use the draft to acquire a Center?

Wes Johnson basically played at the same level as Nick did last year. I don't have a problem with them giving him a shot, but I agree we still have to add quality OL depth that can push whoevers starting. You cant just rely on your starting 5 and hope to get thru a season, it never works out.

The OL was a MASH unit last year. I am all for drafting young talent, but if this line stays generally healthy and works together through OTA's and TC it will be just fine.

be nice if they could trade down in the first pick up a TE that will help the passing and the OL then fix the secondary in rounds 2,3
If it works out we still won't be contenders but we'll have a foundation to build on.
Next year go all out for a QB...doesn't have to be a long rebuild.
I just for the love of god wish we could go back and trade Wilk or Sheldon and kept Snacks. Would have made a huge difference. We'd have whatever asset we got in the trade plus our DL would be set as opposed to now where it's not even the strength it's suppose to be

even with this signing (which appears to be decent) i definitely see the jets taking an OL relatively early on in the draft with an outside possibility of taking 2 in the first 4-5 rounds or so. of course dependent on any trades up or down.

one name being thrown around is elfein who can play all interior positions.

with the LT signed and additional 1-2 draft picks this OL can become a strength in a relatively short period of time.

No one said we had to agree. I may even agree with you that Ijalana is a better RT than LT. That really doesn't matter imo. Aside from Beachum, he's the only other guy on the roster that can even possibly play LT. Do you really think it would be wise to start Ijalana at RT? If so, what are you gonna do if both Beachum and Ijalana go down with injuries? There are no LTs worth a damn to be had during the season, and you're going to give up a king's ransom of draft picks to get whatever mediocre LT you could get.

IMO it's not worth the difference between Ijalana and Qvale or Ijalana and Shell to risk our QBs health. The Jets aren't gonna win many games this season. The most important thing our LTs can do is keep our QBs healthy. Nothing else really matters in the grand scope of things in 2017.

I totally agree with your first paragraph.

I preferred Beachum. He's experienced and a quality LT when healthy. There are no guarantees with Ramczyk, either that the Jets would have been able to trade down or up to get him, that he'd be completely healthy, or that he'd be able to start this year. The Jets needed an LT to start this year so that our QBs don't get killed. Besides, the Jets could still take Ramczyk or Bolles. He could be the backup to Beachum and Ijalana could move to RT or, he could join the competition at RT and keep Ijalana as Beachum's backup.

I think they need to either sign a FA C or draft one, and would prefer that they sign a FA CB to improve depth and competition. I disagree that the Jets will take a CB at #6. That's too high, and there's not a CB worthy of being taken that high. IMO that would be a horrible move.

I agree that we need a TE (2 actually), and ILB, but would also add a pass-rushing OLB, a FS, a RB, and a FB. I don't think they "need" a WR, but it sure wouldn't hurt.
