What has this guy done to make people excited about him? seems he has been around 5 years with not much to show for it.
We didn't trade up for Shell, it was a 2017 4th rounder for a 2016 5th rounder. The justification was we didn't have a 5th last year because we traded for Clady, but we were going to have an extra pick this year as compensation for losing Snacks. Clearly Mac had to like Shell enough to make that trade, but by signing two tackles this offseason, he's showing he doesn't have 100% faith in him.
Keep in mind Reiff just got 5 yr. 58.75 million with almost half guaranteed. All the LT deals have been insane so be prepared. I'm expecting close to that.
Continuity and familiarity. I hope this group has the talent to stick together for awhile. I approve of what Mac is doing so far. Nothing flashy, just solid justifiable moves that make sense.
I doubt it. He just got cut after one year of a 5 year, 45 million dollar deal. The last two years two teams have let him walk. I would hope it's some sort of "prove it" deal.
PFR had Beachum as the 4th best available ahead of Reiff who just got roughly 12mill a year. He's gonna get paid. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2017/03/best-2017-free-agents-offense-nfl
I like the signing as long as the terms are reasonable. This is an experienced guy who is decent in pass pro..and can still get better. Best case..he steps up & becomes a decent fixture...worst case..He's a bridge till we find a true franchise LT.
Ijalana and Shell will compete for the starting RT job, which sounds good to me. Ijalana was bad at LT, but decent at RT. Hopefully Beachum can stay healthy.
They probably shouldn't at this point, rolling with him as the starter is asking for trouble. That said, it will probably be an open competition during camp and he'll have every opportunity to earn it.
AHAHAHA 30 minutes ago was looking on the other OP where title said "I better play LT myself" Board was on full tilt panic mode..too funny
This really solidified this line. Now we have guys competing and can draft a guy in the middle rounds We can have some depth and some developmental players. Would still like to sign some competition for C once free agency dies down but this was the last guy left imo that was a plug and play.
Good pickup in a thin market. Like everyone else, I'm sadly almost certain we overpaid. Before long we'll know for sure.
Ooo predictions. Alright I am hoping 4 years 34mill with 18 guaranteed but thinking 3 years 29mill with 16 guaranteed.
He had a down year with Jacksonville. I don't think it will be anything major. My money is on a 1 year deal for about 8 million. I could also see something like 2 years for 15 with a team option.
