Brilliant move by the Browns. They essentially just got a 2nd round pick for a dead contract that they'll cut next season. They also add ammo to their war chest to potentially trade up for a QB in the draft after they take Garret. They're going to be really good soon.
They haven't had a FO this good n a while. There are no guarantees obviously and they need to hit on QBS, but they're actually building a team that projects to have a bright future. The Jets need to take a page out of their playbook and adopt this strategy
But do either of us think that Osweiler is part of that future? Take the 2nd second round pick and $16 million cap hit then dump him next year. Maybe their 2017 #12 and the acquired 2018 second rounder gets them Jimmy Garapollo.....
This is genius. There was no way the Browns could've spent all that cap space so they essentially traded some of it for a 2nd rounder. Awesome stuff.
No way. He's Ryan Fitzpatrick bad. I think they'll trade for a QB in the draft. They're going to have three 2nd round picks in 2018, so it makes sense to maybe one or two of those picks with the 12th pick in the draft to move up for the guy they like.
Yes, you are right. My bad. It's still a shrewd move. Gain a nice asset for cap space you were unlikely going to be able to use otherwise.
Browns also get a 2017 6th on top of the 2018 2nd round pick. The Texans get back a 4th in 2017 and 10 million in cap space.
wow that's hilarious. Wouldn't it be something if Osweiler somehow sees the light and becomes a HOF QB for the Browns. haha
