GB is kind of like the Pats. They let their players go if they don't sign for cheap. Perry was a very frustrating first round pick to watch. He battled injuries a lot, and underperformed each year until this one. I'm nervous about the Jets bringing him on board tbh.
do it, mac's patented 4 year deal that gives him an out after 2. make next year the big cap hit. perry and jenkins with mauldin in on passing downs.
The 11 sacks is a gaudy number but there is no way Perry is as good as Pace was when the Jets signed him. Not even close. They're both players blooming in the last year of their contracts but if you look at Perry you realize he's just a decent player. He had an AV last year of just 6 with 11 sacks. I didn't think that was possible, BTW. Pace had an AV of 13 the year before the Jets signed him. That's a Pro Bowl caliber season. The Jets bought at the high price based on that season and regretted it. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PaceCa20.htm http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PerrNi00.htm If the Jets buy Perry as if he was a Pro Bowl player we're going to regret it almost immediately.
I was very high on Perry before the draft 2012; so his first four years with the Packers had been a true disappointment for me. But then again, we have to remember that his DC was D. Campers, who may very well be one of the worst coordinators in the league (e. g. playing Clay Matthews at ILB). Although I'm also worried about Perry being somewhat of a one year wonder, he has a lot of positive aspects going for him: fits our system, had a great last season, satifies a need, still realtively young, obviously (very) talented (as a former 1st rounder), defends the run well, may have been utilized wrong in GB,... But what I've always like most: his motor overall and his closing speed, which is one of the best in the NFL. So Perry is a very solid edge setter/rusher and he still has upside: Getting him as a free agent would be a huge win for our team.
I really hope Mac isn't taking the old Idzik approach to free agency,Tony Jefferson is expected to sign with Baltimore so I really hope we land Perry we need a real Olb.Theres zero real Jet news with free agency right now.
Kevin Greene who was the LB coach for the Packers is now with the Jets so he's probably selling high for Perry and thinks he can tap the potential. Perry was pretty unlucky with injuries.
I wouldn't be too hasty to say no. He s an instant major upgrade with plenty of thread on the tires. I trust Mac will get something moving that will be fair but not excessive. He will front load it with an escape clause after 2 years
I would hope that they have decided to actually rebuild through the draft and not splash the cash during free agency. Perry would be a good addition, but we'd be able to find one of the draft prospects and plug him in for less money. BTW i think Jenkins showed quite a lot of promise last year so he may step up this season.
This would be a perfect signing...Perry has just scratched the surface and is still really young with upside We really need an OLB that can rush from the edge as well
I like Perry, but I think signing him would be a mistake. That would be a good move if they were ready to compete and were just a player or two away. They aren't. This is a very good draft for pass rushers. The Jets need to draft and develop their own who can be with them long term and grow with the team. By the time the team is ready to be competitive, he'll be getting too old, and they'll have to start all over.
He's only 26.....we should aim to be atleast ready to compete next season (2018) and beyond He's a few years away from his prime anyway so we're catching him at a good time either way you look at it NFL rebuilds don't take 3-4+ years these days
I imagine that dude punching himself in the nuts with one hand and typing with the other. And being really good at doing it without typos.
They never do anything right so I don't know why any of us even bother but we're still here somehow But anyway, I wouldnt want to splash the cash for anyone like 29 or older but a young player yet to reach his prime can be part of a rebuild for sure
We have no depth at OLB ,This BS using Sheldon as a linebacker is a waste of time.Nick Perry would be a major addition to our defense Mac has to get this done.
