Yeah, but that was THEN. What happened between then and NOW? He was apparently traumatized by his college coach leaving him, and playing behind a lousy OL. Poor guy. And it had such an effect that Macc and Bowles have had to keep locked in a closet so his fragile psyche wasn't further harmed. If he's worth that assessment from years ago, he needs to prove it one the field now. If the Jets don't think he's ready, then he ought to be cut loose.
The last 5 QBs taken by the Jets were all suppose to be project QBs. (I may be missing one) Can we not just see what we've already got or get a proven commodity. That's all I want. Enough with the projects and a revolving door of OCs, how are you suppose to work on a project if the &% $#ing OC is gone every 2 years!
I like the kid ...if we trade back , acquire more picks , take a CB later in rd1 , I'd love Mahomes in rd3 if he falls that far . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok, so if Glennon is going to Chicago the available options are? Cutler (repaired shoulder), Romo (wont come here), Geno (ACL), Sanchez (we wont have him), Foles (if cut by Chiefs) Sounds like the Jets are going with Petty and Hack!
You want to evaluate him by his play on the field but you also want to ignore how he played in college to focus on how he did in high school....?
Missing the point. I know the Jets CAN cut him, CAN just let him compete see what happens but what about the way this team handled Fitz last year gives you confidence they'll make the right choice?
I agree, but the Jets are not going to do that until they get a QB who they think is a FQB-caliber one. To put it another way, with Petty - 4th rounder, and Hack - 2nd rounder, Bowles can say he'll play the vet because "He gives us the best chance to win", because that's his primary goal. It's not QB development. But if you draft a QB with your first pick, THAT makes a statement: "This is our FQB" and Bowles doesn't have the latitude to simply ignore him. Now you may feel there is no QB in this draft that pick, many feel that way. But don't forget all the "experts" who missed on Tom Brady, or Prescott, or plenty of others. The fact is that winning teams have elite QBs, and you don't find elite QBs in FA, you need to draft them. And you keep drafting until you hit. And how do you know you "hit"? You push them and find out. If the Jets fail to push Petty and Hack now, they've all but admitted that they failed, and they need to admit that and move forward.
That Buckeye defense had nobody drafted until the 3rd round (Quinn Pitcock) Yea... I had to look him up as well.
To go up against Saban (one of greatest minds in college football) and have two tremendous games on the biggest stage tells me a lot. To me that is worth the number 6 pick. I mean can it really get any worse?
And he actually won...with the Broncos. He beat what was considered a great Jets defense. I'm not saying it made him a great QB, but it proved that if surrounded by the right cast, and playing for a good coach, he could overcome his obvious physical shortcomings and win. Now, take that kind of mentality and couple it with Watson's physical gifts, and you have a recipe for a FQB.
You hit on another major issue. Our coaching staff sucks and has always sucked. Guys are supposed to come into the league and progress skill wise. These guys come to us and there is zero progression.
