We are going to resign Geno, and have Geno, Petty, and Hack battle it out for the right to start...... bank on it
Spot on. I'm not alone either. All the draft analysts think these 2017 rookies are more mediocrity and you have all of the teams that draft ahead of us picking up backup level QBs on multi-year deals. What does that tell you? It's a bunch of Geno's. Big numbers, lots of production, with a LOT of flaws and question marks.
Watson is a winner and I will take that over the little QB intangibles that with the correct coaching can be fixed... Being a winner is so overlooked now a days its not even funny. Who was the last WINNER at QB the Jets have had?
Please god no. Bowles can't be trusted we'll be 2-11 and he'll still be starting Geno next off-season we'll still be wondering what Hack can be. Fans are happy to let Jet greats like Mangold and Revis walk so we can "move on, rebuild, get younger" but for some reason can't let Geno go
Every top QB in the draft is going to need time to develop...... the worst thing we could do would be draft one @ 6 and have to play him...... it's Mark Sanchez all over again
Watson is the product of one of the most successful college systems in the last 5 years. How did Tajh Boyd look?
Tim Tebow. The college game is the college game. Skills may not translate well to the NFL. Players who are great in college may suck in the NFL. Players who aren't great in college but have the NFL skillset partially in place may become excellent Pros. DeShaun Watson is a very tough candidate to evaluate. He has all the leadership qualities and many of the physical benchmarks that the NFL requires but he is also missing some key experience markers and there are times when he looks unprepared for the NFL. He's the kind of guy I'd love to grab on the 33 pick if the evaluation of him was solid at that point. I expect he will go late 1st/early 2nd. If he makes it past that? Well the herd has judged him unfit for a high value pick and like Geno Smith you are taking a big risk if you take him out where the Jets 2nd round pick is.
Even if I thought it was a good idea to give him another shot (I dont), Geno wont be ready for OTA's. The earliest he will be ready is training camp and he would need to both rehab and learn a new offense. Not gonna happen.
Tajh Boyd wouldn't have had two great games against Bama. When you have two tremendous games against Bama defenses that have 3-5 first rounders on them every year, you deserve a look. I want a winner on the Jets. Someone that could wake these other morons up. We have to get a winning mentality into this organization, and position wise that starts with the QB.
Seriously? That's your argument? Then why not just have drafted him coming out of HS? Oh yeah, it's because you need to wait and see and let him get experience and PROVE himself. There's the problem DRH, he HASN'T proven himself. Neither has Petty. Now is that entirely their fault? No! But it is a fact. And we still have the same guys in charge who have stunted their development. But sure, go ahead bet the farm that one of them is your FQB, and to "hedge your bets" go ahead and sign a cast off QB who Bowles will no doubt play ahead of Petty and Hack and further hold them back. Talk about making zero sense! I'm in the camp of letting Petty and Hack sink or swim, and adding to that mix a top draft pick to compete with them. One of them needs to step up and claim the job, and the others sit and become back ups and maybe get another shot if the winner falters. If Macc doesn't have enough faith in the guys he picked himself, then he has no business being the GM.
I don't know what to make of this quote. I thought this is how players were evaluated, through their play on the field. I think it's relevant that a guy was considered to be the best QB in the entire nation going into college.
If the Jets evaluate Watson and decide to draft him in the second round (if he falls) I would be good with that. But he needs to sit and learn.
The issue is he won't make it that far. This would have been a good draft to be picking 16-20 like we usually do.
We might be 2-11 regardless of any of the QBs we have. But it's merely a competition, Jets can cut him if they don't like what they see. I've never liked Geno, but he's cheap.
Your right. They can bring him in, but both learning a new offense an learning to run on his injured leg he will be setup to fail.
