Samuel is a WR/RB hybrid and has very good hands. Could end up being a safety blanket for whoever our QB is. We should just throw the towel in on Devin Smith, never really liked that pick to be honest.
Looks like he wants to do both. He did workouts as both a DB AND a linebacker. He's smaller then Darron Lee playing linebacker. Teams apparently are also interested in him playing WR / RB. Source btw - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...sive-back-and-linebacker-at-2017-nfl-combine/ He's going to be a decent versatile weapon, but his lack of ability to actually cover and make plays leaves much to be desired. In 2 or 3 years, I can see it maybe panning out. I think at best, he's the 4th best safety in this class.
He doesn't want to play linebacker he was forced to because he was listed at LB in Michigan , so he had to do both in order to do the DB work
There's not a chance in hell he will succeed at linebacker. I think he was wasting his time and should've just went to the combine as a safety. Do you really have to go into the combine with the position you were listed at in Michigan? Players change positions prior to the combine all of the time. Do they usually do 2 drills? Like a QB becoming a WR?
LOL I wasn't trying to change your mind, my friend, but glad we're in agreement. While those are all very good players and would help the team, what about CB or LT? Also, I think Samuel would be a luxury pick and the Jets would be better off addressing CB, LT, or a RB who is more of a workhorse/power type.
I sure hope you're wrong!! Peppers would be an awful pick!!! He doesn't have a position. Even if he winds up at Safety, he hasn't shown any ball skills to this point and that's what the Jets need in a FS. You don't take a jack of all trades, master of none, STs player at pick #6. That's the very definition of a luxury pick, and that's for a team that is already set, is a strong playoff contender and can afford it. The Jets cannot. If Mac takes Peppers, he should be fired immediately. Doyle would be a great addition in FA.
Some how, can't see the Jets drafting a QB recently recuperating from a torn ACL. Not only a project but a broken one at that. And he's been known to show bits of temper tantrums.
Yeah, I get it. I think any QB the Jets select this year will be red shirted in 2017 and likely wont be ready until 2019. Its also possible Kelly goes undrafted.
No we don't need a experiment. Is he a safety or is he a linebacker? Too confusing for our dimwitted coach who can't even make a halftime adjustment. We need some offensive firepower to help whatever young QB will be running the show. That is why Fournette makes sense. He can kill off the clock if the game is close.
Good justification for your picks, but I would differ on some: Assuming I went with your trade down scenario: 1. Pick #12 - Personally, I would take Mahomes or Watson, but I'm pretty sure Macc won't so I'll got with Howard the 2-way TE over Williams. If Howard isnt there, I would seriously consider taking McCaffrey. Some might call that a "reach", but really, if he's taken later in the 1st round, which I beleive he will be, what's the difference? 2. Pick #33 - If I haven't already taken McCaffrey, he goes here. If I have him already, Hassen Reddick if he's here, but I doubt he will be, so my first look will be the best OL - Ramczyk, Bolles, Lamp. OR a pass rusher: Thomas, Barnett, McKinley, Charlton. 3. Pick #39 - If I went OL at #33, I'm going Pass Rusher here, or vice versa. 4. Pick #60 (For Richardson) - If he's still there, Jabril Peppers as a Safety. I think the Jets can use all the passion they can get and this kid has it. If he's not there, Budda Baker or Obi Melifonwu. 5. Pick #70 - I would go along with your pick of Sutton at CB, or whoever I had rated highest at that position. At this point I would also keep my eyes open for a highly rated QB, or RB, or TE if I didn't already snag one. 6. Pick #150 - If he's still there, Raekwon McMillan ILB, or the BPA ILB or OLB. 7. Pick #191 - The best OL available would be my first choice; or BPA CB, S, Pass rusher. 8. Pick #224 - I like your pick of Millen; otherwise, BPA in area of still greatest need. Obviously most of these picks are dependent on who is actually available at any given point.
Latest reports for Sheldon are a third to fourth round pick. He didn't rate well last year, has drug history, and has a 8 million price tag. That said, I think he will be very motivated as it is a contract year. As I have advocated in other threads, I think the best way to get a better draft pick for Sheldon is to pay some of his salary in a bonus (which will come off our cap). The amount is negotiable depending on the pick. Dallas is the tightest on cap and might bite on this while a team with a ton of cap room won't.
Both trades are too slanted in our favor. We would be lucky to get a third rounder for Sheldon at this point. His value is so low that I think keeping him is the best move we can make in this draft.
I don't understand the fascination with McCaffrey. The Jets do not have a primary RB. They have 2 supplementary RBs. Adding a 3rd would be simply nuts imo. They need to add a primary RB, a workhorse-type that can carry the ball 20-25 times a game, and preferably one that has some power. They certainly don't need to add a RB who's more WR imo than RB. This would be luxury pick. I wouldn't take him at all, much less over some of the other players you mentioned who not only are excellent players but fill needs. Peppers is another luxury pick. We need a FS with ball skills. Peppers has one interception and hasn't shown ball skills as a safety. IMO he doesn't really have a position and is totally a luxury pick for a team that is already a strong team and who is looking for another weapon they can use 10 times a game on offense and the rest of the time on STs.
If we could get a higher pick from Dallas in return for our picking up some of his cap hit, I'd be all for it. Just unload the schmuck.
Exactly, he is a talented player no doubt. He, Forte, and Powell would be a great running back group .......if you were the Patriots. A team able to lean on the QB and easily have a game plan beginning with "lets throw it 50 times Tom" would work. If the run is the change of pace and you put the pressure on the QB to read the defense, adjust the play call, and get rid of it quick.....easy! Unfortunately, we are trying to lessen the pressure put upon the QB which is really hard/impossible with a mediocre line and since we don't even know who three of our starters on oline are it's a stretch to say mediocre. I will say, I wish to avoid a running back group lacking skill that when a particular running back is in you can say with 90% certainty it is a run or it is a pass.
With a bit of thought and continuing. The Jets are rumored to be in the market for a fullback. Forte has done very well in this system in the past. If Powell also is decent in this regard dividing 30 carries between them keeps both fresh. You then fill your roster with a bruiser for short yardage or the best available back at the end of pre season as teams cut down. i.e. this is not the worst position on the team and is fine for this season. Use your draft pick capital elsewhere where it can provide more value down the road.
Depending on how they acquire Taylor the Browns could still easily take a QB on the 6 or the 12. All the QB's in this year's draft look like they could use a couple of years on the bench. Having Taylor as the starter for 3 years after drafting a guy this year is no disaster either. If the guy comes on strong next year, well then the Browns have a QB to trade, which is always a reasonable asset to keep around. So Taylor-Watson or Taylor-Kizer or Taylor-Trubisky are all solid long-term moves.
Good point. If they sign Taylor, I would think that they would want Watson, since the offense wouldn't have to change if they went from Taylor to Watson. Kizer and Trubisky are not as likely to run, nor are they as skilled runners.
