You dump Pryor because of his attitude, not because of salary. If we're truly witnessing the great purge, it makes sense in this context.
It might also be called "The year of taking all defensive players in the top 10". I'd be shocked if the draft turns out anything like this.
I know. My point is Mac doesn't deserve credit for taking a player any fan who'd read a draft report would've said was a stud. Especially when in hindsight the alternative would have actually been a better pick.
I wonder if Macc will be around by the end of this "rebuild." Maybe he's buying himself some more time. Bowles sure as hell won't. It will be interesting to see the moves that occur before the draft.
do the jets get comp picks for any of the guys they released? I don't think so. but I would be happy to be wrong. my understanding was only on fa that were added or left. the thing that is necessary is lots and lots of draft picks, and turning them into players that help the team. sure everyone misses more than they hit but the great teams are put together by organizations who know how to draft and know how to get the most out of the guys they draft in the short window they are players. while the past 2 drafts haven't been terrible they sure haven't been great. we have a few young guys who WE as fans want to succeed but we really have no idea of whether or not they will. charone peake is great, but perennial contenders aren't made with charone peake type players. I think the jets completely missed the curve with lee, the small fast lbs were the in thing a few years ago but over the last couple years teams have started to really take advantage of them by running at them. and its worked to the point that the league is going to have to adjust again. they have a 1, 2, two 3s, a 5, 6 and 7. I would be much happier if they had 2 or 3 more picks in those middle 3-5 rounds. the more shots you take the more likely you are to hit the target. its been proven time and time and time and time again.
We should be encouraged our GM realizes this needs to be done and built contracts so that we can unload if we want to tear down. Now let's hope we can draft a fuckin competent player in the 2nd round.
Yeah I mean I'd definitely keep Decker and Pryor. I thought we converted Skrine's contract into bonus' which guaranteed more of it and made him uncuttable. They could reallllly be going for this suck for Darnold mantra. They better hope he's not the reincarnation of Marky Mark if we're going to field an absolutely pathetic roster for him. I'd say with the possible addition of these cuts, we do not have a chance at signing a free agent quarterback (not that I really want to) and we'll be rollling with the Hack/Petty and maybe even Geno train for a year. This is sort of encouraging though. They're going to try to fully rebuild the correct way. Just got an ESPN alert saying Maccagnan will trade all picks and we are 'open for business in every round.' I kind of like this. It's an approach the franchise has never really tried. Nothing else we've tried for 40 years has worked so let's give it a go.
How would you do if the boss and HC gave marching orders to get Revis and Fitz, and they knew it? It's amazing he managed to tie $$ for only 2 years. Lee - don't know whose hiring that was. As to Hack, the jury is still out. I'm saying that you can't be sure the draft and FA selections were Mac's doing. All you know for sure is that he managed $$ well.
I think this exactly what is going on. Mac is guaranteed to keep the job for the next 4-5 years, and he can do with HC whatever he pleases. My prediction is shit load of youth in the coming season (obviously) getting their feet wet under placeholder HC. And next year Mac gets his guy in. I hope that guy is Sean Payton.
So Bowles deBowled Mac? OHoohoho Oh boy..could be true ...I tend to agree with you bout FA and Draft then...Lee had to be Bowles idea for sure ...another def putz But Mac sure did spend Idziks cost savings on guys like Gilchrist Skrine Fitz Revis (Williams only good 1)...PS they are now all gone noew
I disagree. A lot of fans would have reached for a need or taken Beasley. Williams played better their rookie season. Their careers aren't over yet. Let's wait and see who has the better career before we pronounce who was the better pick.
Considering we'd be better off with an OLB, and Beasley is at least as good as Williams right now, I can't praise Mac for the pick. I can't fault him for it either, but I'd like something to praise him for, considering his second round picks haven't produced anything, and he's repeatedly traded away late rounders.
I prefer to think about it as Mac giving Bowles enough rope to hang himself, but yeah. Look at those 4 mentioned: Fitz, Revis, Lee and Hack. Fitz is Gailey's love, the 2 D men I think are picks of the D-minded HC. Hack... I wanna say Mac's guy (isn't Mac from "draft QB until you find one" school?), but who knows. I supposed we will see this draft. My guess is there will be another QB drafted by Jets in 2-4 rounds. Regardless, there is not enough body of work to make a judgement on Hack. Potential is there. Just imagine an O-line that can give 4-5 seconds of decent protection, and 2 speedy WRs (Jets already have one). It's 2-3 bomb TDs a game. Add a decent RB to that OL and you got yourself an offense.
Darnold and Rosen will both be 3rd year players after 2017 with likely 2 years as the starter in the mix. Darnold, soph last year and junior in 2017. Rosen freshman in 2015, injured 2016, junior 2017. There will be other names in the mix too. It's a good year for QB's. If half the juniors choose to not come out then it will be a good #1 pick and 2019 will be strong too. Both Darnold and Rosen wil be 21 before the 2018 season starts. That's not ideal but it's not Johnny Manziel wet behind the ears either.
Mac must have really impressed if he got a deal like that that! Mostly undeserved imo but the IQ is certainly there Pair Mac with S payton OR Mike Holmgren ...yes!
Both guys are extremely talented and 5 star recruits Way different backgrounds,,Rosen comes from a very affluent family (Mom Journalist Father back Surgeon). Also a little eccentric ..he is an atheist. Darnold from a more middle class family. His Mom is a Phys Ed teacher No Manziel here imo Welp.....I so don't want the Jets to blow this!!
Fans need to understand that this is much needed and long over due & something that , dare I say it, is a "process". Next season is going to be a tough one in the standings but my belief is Macc has a plan and, I for one, am excited to watch this plan unfold. I see us being able to upgrade our O weapons and D secondary in this years draft with an eye on the prie next season in getting one of the top QB's coming out . I vote for bringing Geno back on a 1yr deal and swinging for the fences next season, solidifying the QB heading into the future. All that being said I wouldn't be upset if we somehow snagged Mahomes in rd 2 or 3 as I feel this kid could be a potential star.
I love the rebuild. I'm confused how the Jets aren't saying Petty/Hack. Then i keep hearing Glennon. Then i see 13-15 million. You gotta be kidding!!!!
