Yes Sir!! I also, rate: Cook over Fournette Adams over Hooker Sidney Jones over Lattimore/Tabor/Humphrey I don't follow the "herd" I rate on what I see on a player. It doesn't mean the players I don't rate as high will be busts, I just see better value with other players. I have had pretty good success projecting Busts and Solid players in Round 1. Only the old timers here will remember I was one of the few against the Vernon Gholston pick, months before the Jets drafted him. Almost everyone in this forum wanted VG. The only pick fairly recent pick I wanted for the Jets in Rd 1, I missed on was Kyle Wilson.
but doesnt his speed concern you williams i mean he doesnt seem like a complete receiver just his catch radius is elite . All else looks a bit average to me
About Williams, do you really believe he's better then Laquon Treadwell who was selected at the end of the first round last year? Williams won't be running a 40 at the combine, and I think Treadwell was a better player / route runner. About Hooker, high reward is DPOTY potential, when's the last time you've seen a safety with this much range and speed? He's the new prototypical FS in this NFL. He has the athleticism. He's starting only a season, but I don't think that should get in the way. Offenses didn't want to throw in Hooker's direction for the most part and would rather attack Lattimore and the other corners who are also first rounders. I really like Adams as well, but we have Pryor on the roster and the Jets are going after Tony Jefferson from the Cardinals. His inexperience is a risk, but given his abilities he should catch on pretty quick. He's no dummy.... the interception against Clemson .. middle of the field all the way to the back corner of the EZ
I believe Williams ceiling is higher than Treadwell. Treadwell has had is nagging injuries too. I think Adams gets a bad rap that he's only a SS. Granted, Hooker is faster and more fluid in coverage, but IMO, Hooker isn't as good a tackler and much less physical than Adams. Hooker also lacks leadership, an intangible that is important. Adams isn't as limited in coverage as Pyror. Tony Jefferson is a liability in coverage, no need for Pryor if we sign him.
What do you base calling a Mahomes a "reach"? Have you seen his tape; read the analyses? Yes, there are some who do call him a "project" or don't think he'll be a FQB, but I'm interested in your reason(s). I hope you're not just parroting these other naysayers. As unpolished as he might be in some areas, his physical and intrinsic gifts are off the charts. I don't see how anyone who needs a FQB passes on this guy, and frankly think he'll be gone before 6.
Well put. I don't think it's necessarily a bad rap on Adams, he can play FS no doubt, but it's just that his true potential lies playing the role of taking out the underneath routes / run support. Adams playing single high safety, I am sure he can do it, but it won't maximize his potential at the next level. I would like to get rid of Pyror and go with Adams if possible as well. 110% pass on Tony Jefferson too. Yeah Hooker's leadership isn't there yet due to inexperience, but you can't teach instincts and range. I do hope we get one of those 2 safeties though. Rarely do you see 2 blue chip safety prospects.
I did not know that Jefferson was a liability in coverage. I knew he wasn't like an elite center fielder..but thought he was at least solid. We really have a mess on our hands on the back end. To me..I'm not taking Adams unless I'm either dumping Pryor or trading him. A pairing of those 2 just isn't gonna work. Teams will just continue to throw over the Jets heads..and this team's inability to draft any fluid speedy athletes becomes even more apparent. I'm not as high on Adams as others..mainly b.c of the fact that we already have a box safety. I get that Adams is at least adequate in coverage..and maybe a better all around player than Pryor..if that's the case & he is best available...I get what I can for Pryor. I just cannot see a way those 2 co-exist w. any success for this team. Hooker..I think actually compliments Pryor very well. No Hooker is not a great tackler...and is not an intangible guy...but he puts a real top on the defense that has been lacking forever.
Pryor appears to be a major key figure in the draft. Here is some information on Jefferson: http://www.bucsnation.com/2017/2/15...y-2017-buccaneers-could-target-tony-jefferson He might be better then what WW suggests in coverage. So if they were to sign Jefferson [or keep Pryor], draft Hooker, draft a corner in the 3rd and sign another CB via FA, I think the secondary would be pretty much rebuilt in 1 off-season. It's good to have options Hooker fits what the Jets need and is a BPA candidate. Instinctive with unlimited range. Not the best tackler, but that can improve over time, he won't be involved in the run game as much either. Jets are getting killed with offenses that have down field passing attacks. Gotta fix that leak, which is why I am banging on the table for the Jets to get this guy.
If they invest as heavily in drafting "D" as you just suggested, I'll be very disappointed, and frankly surprised. If you're going to rebuild a unit on this team, it's the "O" that screams for it.
I'm curious why you rate Cook over Fournette. Is it Fournette's ankle injuries? Otherwise, I just don't see it. IMO Cook isn't even in the same class as Fournette. Fournette can do it all. He has speed, power, can break tackles and get yardage on his own, can catch and can block. Cook has speed, is more versatile and can catch, doesn't break many tackles, and isn't a blocker. With the Jets' OL I don't see Cook being a good selection at all. Fournette can break a tackle or two and get positive yards. Cook isn't Barry Sanders who can get yardage on his own with elusiveness. Cook also has questionable character.
Jets have 7 picks. 2 in the 3rd. The O will be rebuilt in due time and the Jets will allocate picks to O in this draft. Have some patience. You can't address everything in 1 draft. Next draft, I anticipate an offense heavy draft. Better offensive lineman, more than likely better QBs as well.
Dude, You don't know me too well.....I've been in this draft forum for over 12 + years and I've never been a "parrot" or follow the herd....trust me. I've also been following the NFL draft for over 30 years. Mahomes is a reach at #6, he's not a good value that early in the draft, if he is gone at # 6, that team is making a mistake. No QB in this draft is worth a top 6 pick, they will be foolish to draft one and pass on another elite player. We can definitely agree to disagree.
I see your reasoning, I just don't agree with it. I would suggest that as bad as the secondary was, a lot of that had to do with a weak pass rush, so if they can get an elite Edge guy, and sign some secondary FAs, that also massively upgrades the "D". I don;t expect that argument to persuade you to pass over (no pun intended) Hooker, but just some food for thought if the Jets don't take him at 6, assuming he doesn't fall to them later.
You're right, I don't know you, so please don't mistake my questioning your reasoning as disrespect. I was just wondering what specifically you base your opinion on. I still don't get it. Any team that needs a FQB is going to take a chance, and rightfully so. I was just watching the Combine and they showed the scouting report on Brady's Combine: It's amazing that he was even signed to a contract, let alone drafted! Point being that even the experts have major misses. I know you'll say, "Yeah, but they didn't gamble a 1st round pick on him". True, but if they had, would you call that a mistake? If you think a guy can be your FQB, you take him, "accepted wisdom" notwithstanding.
There's no good FS available in FA. I am not interested in overpaying for anyone in FA during a rebuild. Jets need a bunch of pieces. EDGE is also another position that needs to be addressed. However, Myles will be gone, and there isn't a 2nd good edge guy in the top 10. So Hooker / Adams to me will be options at 6 for the Jets. We can talk EDGE rushers in a trade-down.
No one will care if Mahomes was a reach if he reaches his potential. Also no one will care who they didn't take in that spot instead. Bottom line is if Mac thinks Mahomes will solve our multi decade long void at QB he should take him at 6 regardless of where some fake experts think his best value is. I agree with what I bolded, so my thoughts were that in MY dreamworld, they get Mahomes at 6, then look to get Malik McDowell, or the best Edge with their second pick. I don't expect you to agree with that, I'm just explaining my thought process.
Malik McDowell isn't a good fit for the Jets unless they switch to a 4-3 D full time, and even then there are a ton of questions about him. I think he's overvalued and doesn't have a great motor. I have zero interest in him.
