In this thread there are consistent posts mentioning essentially "continuity" if for no other reason (because they haven't mentioned any) because you can't change the GM and HC in the middle of the process? I disagree. Simply because if it isn't working, what good does it do to continue on that path? Mailing it in and thinking we are going to suck for the next two seasons or more? That just doesn't make any sense to me at all. That is a defeatist attitude as far as I am concerned? The bottom line for me is if it isn't working, then you absolutely must fix it. Now, I'll leave it up to you guys to debate if it is, or isn't working? IMO, this very clearly is not working. In 2014 fans wanted nothing more than to move on from Idzik and Rex because we were a terrible team that had squandered a plethora of draft picks. They were tired of the lack of communication between the GM and HC. They thought there was dysfunction there. Today, we are only one win better. You could make a case to say Mac has squandered every pick he's made with the exception of Leonard Williams. Toilet Bowles seems to be far worse than you could have ever imagined? After two seasons of this apparent rebuild and trying to build a mentality where there are always growing talent on the roster, I do not see it. This roster is largely devoid of talent. Now, I suppose I can see why Woody opted to stay with this front office for another season, but I am waiting for results and I am not seeing anything that would indicate that this team is even on the right path? For all of the reasons that we supported Mac and his drafting strategies, tendency to take the BAP, likes to draft a QB each and every season, etc? Along the lines of the BAP, he struck gold with Leo, no doubt. This kid is great. Darron Lee, however, is an entirely different story? If the BAP at number 20 is not a guy that can be a dynamic, hit the ground running kind of player, then what's the point of taking him? You see, to me he isn't the BAP FOR THE NYJ? He's drafted two QB's now and we have no indication at all that either are any good? So maybe, despite all of his good theories about drafting, perhaps he just doesn't know how to identify talent that is suitable for the NYJ? That's what I am seeing....
i mean we'll never know for sure, but we have seen how long bowles stuck with fitz while sucking.to me it seems like who ever he names gets a long leash
Interesting idea for act/cap guy or i guess Pres of Operations(?) But truth be told i want my GM to eval players draft negotiate contracts etc ...if he needs assts well the boss can hire them for him Macagnans stock has plummeted I thought at first he was smart and well mentored but he's NOT as you aptly showed here He is a C- GM who can't add and makes mostly poor decisions in rounds 1 and 2 and with the Contracts..As I posted before I respect TGG guys who were not so on board with him/wait and see Outlook : I am disgusted with him...Needs to go with Bowles to Summer School
Plus a 100 For goodness sakes why can't the Johnstons hire a guy with the MOST experience eg Pollian or Casserly vs ZERO like Mac???????? Woody had "paid advisors" help hire Toilet and Mac The Advisors had decades of experience and not in a Nurs Home...In hindsight should been them to get hired..SMH Plus as I have said before the NYJs should NOT be training school for coaches players and GMs ..I want as AD/VL would say "A Commitment to Excellence" for my organization i.e. get the best on Board Its just stupid
I think you highlighted a bunch of reasons why he's not done well. I don't disagree with any of it. I think though that the contracts he handed out when he got here were actually good in the sense that they provided an out after 2 seasons. Some GM's will blindly throw money and years at players and get locked into contracts with players that never pan out and subsequently hinder the cap. Macc, to his credit, structures contracts so that way there is an out earlier rather than later. Now, I wholeheartedly agree that his 2016 offseason was atrocious. Going after forte wasn't necessary, he also caved a few times, and worst off he signed Fitz and wilkerson. Most troubling for me was that Marshall and Decker appeared to have a lot of influence on his decision making. I hope Macc looks at what happened last season and learns from it or he too will find himself being fired.
Todd Bowles has to be shaking in his boots. Probably not what he wanted but time for him to show what he's worth.
Those of you calling for Bowles to be fired, if he can do something with a pared down roster, he may be worth keeping. If they are tanking for Darnold next year, they may want to give him a chance to work with an ACTUAL QB prospect or start from scratch with a new Offensive minded HC. I'd prefer grabbing Darnold, not that i want to sit through Browns-esque 2017 season. but when was the last time we grabbed a top-QB prospect? May be worth it, but the Jets will probably win in week 17 and drop to 3 in the draft and miss out anyway because, well, we're the Jets
Jets would be a much more attractive option to a potential HC/GM/POFO next year with a top 2 pick than they would've been this year. If we're gonna be bad, let's be real bad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I get why this is an attractive thought; but as a professional football team, do you really want to stake your future on a 19 year old kid whose played one season of college football who, if all goes as planned, can decide to stay in college another year when they realize the Jets are the team that is sitting there waiting to pick him?
AKA Peyton Manning..although the Jets were a MUCH better team then and had a HOF coach doing the picking..not the garbage in charge now.
Fellow Jets fans I live just outside of Toronto making me a leaf fan (stop reading if you want Ranger and Isles fans but I do get to a point lol) We to have been without a championship for 50 years and been mediocre for the most part even in a big market. Last year was a complete tear down and finished last. This year we are playing almost all youth and a good part of the team are rookies. The crazy part is during the entire season they have been in and out of playoff contention and are just a game out right now. The best part is this team looks like they care and are in every game till the end (if only they knew how to win shootouts and play third periods). My point is going full youth movement does not mean mediocrity. There is hope even with the teardown in place.
An argument can be made that Macc purposely structured the FA contracts that first year to coincide with the existing veteran contracts. Knowing that would give him the chance to get out this off-season if the bottom fell out the second year. The counter to that however would be why sign Forte.
TB is certainly gonna earn his money in 2017. He does something with this rebuilding roster and Woody will extend him and we'll all be happy to see it. OTOH, this rebuild is something that's been a long time coming. TB's timing could not have been worse on this. I'm not holding out hope for 2017 but taking the long view, its the best thing that Macc could do given the circumstances. 2017 sucks and we're looking good for a true franchise QB in 2018.
A last attempt to push for the playoffs. It is easy to get caught up in the moment and think coming into the 2016 season we were one game away from the playoffs wee just need to add a few more pieces to get us over the hump. If it had worked out and Fitz had similar statistics last year that he had in 2015 no one would be wondering why we signed forte except the forever pessimistic group that demands perfection and pro bowlers at every position.
if we are tanking, here's a thought: Do we attempt to trade WAAAAAAY down in the first and pick up a 2nd 1st rounder next year so we'd have 2 1st round picks in 2018 to ensure we have the fire power to move up and grab Darnold?
Id be on board with that too. at best if we get a late 2nd rounder, which is more than i expect. the more ammo we have for next draft to get an elite QB prospect the better
If Bowles shows much improvement in game management, and getting the team ready, and playing the right schemes and formations best suited to the players he has, then if he goes 4-12 I'm okay with letting him continue. But I doubt that's going to happen...I hope it does, but we'll see.
