I honestly think no one will sign him after looking at his tape from last year, he will be forced to retire and enjoy his last $6 million from the NFL.
We did have the cap space prior to releasing the other players, Revis being cut would not have given us any relief as his $6 million would still count against the cap. We didn't actually exceed the 2017 cap until Winters was re-signed. If Revis Retires after he is released, I believe we are still on the hook for his $6 mill. Only if he were to retire before being cut would he save us the money. Take the money out of the equation, he should still be released. He wants to move to safety, Bowles should have tried him there once the season was lost , I posted this during the season . I don't think he will be a good safety. He will just take up a roster spot and take reps from a young player.
I don't know. This is the NFL. There are a couple of teams as dysfunctional as the Jets. Of course the Brown's would normally be the first team to come to mind, but they finally appear to be moving in the right direction. Based on last year's play, you should be right. He was constantly beat and in the very rare instance he was in position to make a play, he shyed away from contact. Maybe he will make a highlight reel from last year and just constantly loop his lone pick in the Bills game to end the year. LOL
real the link. It literally explains everything from the most reliable NFL cap site. why are you insisting you are right when overthecap.com says you aren't?
I did Real the link. I also read it. I made 2 points, which are you referring to? The time frame for his release or his salary cap hit if he retires? It was actually Fitzgerald who posted an article about the Jets being able to cut Revis because only the $333,333 would accelerate into the 2016 cap. back in Jan. Tonight he posted an article about Revis that had a hyperlink to that post. The post and link are now removed and a new Paragraph at the bottom says he is unsure of the ruler. I agree OTC is one of the most reliable sites and refer to it often. Tonight's Post : https://overthecap.com/jets-release-darrelle-revis/#more-13202 Last paragraph : As a procedural matter I don’t believe the Jets can process Revis’ release until March 9 because of the manner in which guaranteed salary is generally treated on the salary cap. My interpretation of the rule is that all money would accelerate into the current league year which will still be 2016 until March 9. The Jets don’t have enough left over cap space for the move to be processed using 2016 cap space. I could be wrong on that however. Either way I will process the release later tonight to better depict the Jets cap space for free agency.
We have been pretty efficient at dumping overpaid veterans so far. Top four candidates for next cut (in order of probability): Gilchrist Skrine Decker Marshall Guys who could be safe this year: Harris Forte
Forte can't possibly be cut with what we owe him but Harris can and should. If they are rebuilding then get rid of everybody they can.
Gilchrist gotta go as well. Skrine im on the fence but any way to save cap, peace out too especially in declining performance. I'd like to keep one of the vet WR's. My guess is they both stay with Decker the one that stays (quite vet presence over the yap mouth of Marshall)
LOL you guys are too emotional. Why would i care, I just want whats best for the team. If Big Mac is ready to blow it up and go full rebuild mode Then I'll trust him and cheer for whoever is wearing our jersey. On a sidenote looks like we are sitting with 75+ million in cap room for the 2018 season and the only bug free agent we need to resign is Williams Looks like the plan is to tank this year, develop a QB, get another higher pick next year and then gear up for the 2018 season
I don't see how Marshall stays on a team in full rebuilding mode. There is no way in hell the Jets make the post season next year. Marshall would be crazy to stay here if he ever wants to get into the post season. That being said, you can just see the storm clouds forming in the distance. Besides, Marshall takes valuable playing time away from our young Wr's and if we go with either Petty or Hack next year, better to let them get in synch than Marshall whining about not getting the ball enough.
Marshall was good for Quincy Enunwa, teams still liked to tie up Marshall giving more freedom for Quincy to do his stuff, he isn't ready to be a number 1 receiver just yet though and we will need a vet WR on the team, is Decker likely to come back the same ?
We should be in decent shape cap wise in 18. Dead money from this year's cuts will be gone. The $75 million will shrink due to upcoming signings but there should be a good amount left.
we don't' have alot to spend this year and looking at big macs plan eh may want to spend low this offseason and let some carry over. we could easily be looking at 70 mil+ next offseason to spend on free agents. 2017 will be the year of developing young talent and getting another high pick. The 2018 draft top 6 has 2 QBs, a WR, a DE/OLB pass rusher, a S, and an OT
Why? Because cutting Marshall would save the Jets $7.5 million against the cap with no dead money. Because Marshall drops too many passes and doesn't care. Because he caused problems in the locker room last year. Because he'll probably play one more year. Because he's more likely to complain about not getting enough passes thrown his way. In his favor, Marshall has been healthier. He's missed one game in 2 years. He has caught 168 passes for 2,290 yards and 15 TDs. Marshall is 32. Decker on the other hand is a better teammate, leader, and overall player. Cutting Decker would only save $5,750.000 on the cap and cost us $3 million in dead money. Decker missed one game in 2014 and one game in 2015. He has caught 163 passes for 2,183 yards and 19 TDs. Decker is 29.
I agree with a lot of what you say but theres no way Eric Decker is a better overall player than Brandon Marshall dude
