http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000788166/article/geno-smith-being-a-backup-qb-is-not-my-goal I am curious. He should have been starting last year week 1 (Him or Petty, F you Sixpatrick). He did kind of get a raw deal a little bit. Do you think he will be on the roster in 2017?
if gailey stayed i would have thought him staying was a good bet. now, i think he is done here. but it wouldn't be a huge upset if he was re signed. the part of me that likes to watch the world burn wants him to be re signed and designated qb1 going into camp. just for the angst on this board.
Raw deal? Geno got nothing of the sort. He sucked his first two years, which in almost any other case means you're done. But the Jets gave him a gift by keeping him as the starter. Then he blew it by acting like an asshole and getting his jaw broken. Somehow he got another chance this year and injured his knee because he didn't throw the ball away. Right now he's young and cheap, but that's about it.
He had trash in year 1. Year 2 he still wasn't that great. Year 3 he gave himself a raw deal. Year 4 Sixpatrick did his best middle school QB impression.
Geno Smith is the worst kind of POS known to man. If Mac actually brought that fucking cocksucker back, it would put emphasis on how much of a stupid ass Mac really is....
Ya know something... Considering the mound of doo doo we are in It was jus a matter of time befor the doo doo worshippers to make themselves known once again and start piling it on Oh wait ...Bowles wants him back to help with clock management
this, bring geno back for more of this.if the season is going to suck at least make the board hilarious.
Third and 5 on the opponents 30 Yd. line, do we really need to see over and over again Geno get sacked for 8 or 9 yards and get knocked out of Field Goal range because he is too dumb to throw the ball away. He had his shot and he didn't produce.
Geno is an enigma because he's had flashes of being a good QB and then has tons of moments where he looks awful. He got a raw deal last season as he was going to be the starter until Fitz came storming back to ruin everything at the start of camp. Then he tore his acl before he could do anything. I think Geno could probably be a serviceable backup in the NFL, but I have a hard time seeing the Jets bringing him back. If they do then Hack and Petty are worse than any of us could have imagined IMO.
Did you see this year's SB? A guy who they say is one of the top QBs in the game did the same thing. Just sayin. I'm NOT sayin that makes Geno great, just that it happens to all QBs.
It depends on the direction they want to take. If they think they can sign a QB who can take them all the way, then no, they're not going to sing Geno because he's not that guy. But, if they want to build around a young QB - Petty, Hack, Draftee - then signing Geno CHEAP with no guarantees of playing time makes some sense. Any other QBs mentioned will all cost more and expect to play, thus blocking the development of the younger "star of the future". None of know what Macc and the gang are thinking, so we get to play guessing games.
I don't want any part of him. He can't help the newbies and would just take up their time. I never wanted him from the start. Not a very bright QB and took dumb chances and never showed that he would develop into a better QB.
This isn't meant as a comparison but there are more than a few QB's in NFL history who started out as erratic pick-throwing machines perceived to be not that smart who then went on to become good to great NFL QB's. Terry Bradshaw was widely mocked in the Pittsburgh press for his perceived lack of intelligence and booed by the fans for some of the really bad throws he made his first three seasons. Vinny Testaverde essentially had the same thing happen in Tampa Bay and although he learned how to cut down the picks he never succeeded there. Johnny Unitas got cut in his first football camp - with the Steelers - when he couldn't learn the playbook quickly enough for the coaching staff who perceived him to be not intelligent enough to be a good QB. He went down the road to Baltimore the same summer and became a legend. Nobody knows what Geno Smith is capable of at this point, including probably Geno Smith. If I was him I'd want to play anywhere but NY next year because he wasn't a #1 draft pick and he's not going to get a fresh look from the Jets at this point. He might get a fresh look elsewhere.
If I had to choose between disappointing early round former Jet QB's that will have zero positive impact and just create controversy, I'd rather have Sanchez.
I'm not a fan of Geno, but I think he got a raw deal with a shitty line, shitty receivers and a shitty coaching situation. I think he could be better, and probably is.... but he's done here. The Jets need to move on. Edit: I read your post wrong...
I agree with this. I was just pointing out that "couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the c and the t" was a reality at one point in the NFL. Geno doesn't come across as a CEO-QB or as an on-field coach as so many QB's have appeared in recent years. He isn't an athlete blessed by great physical ability. He doesn't have the ear of his teammates as was so clearly revealed by the aftermath of the sucker punch. He needs to fix at least some of those things to have any hope of success and he probably needs to do that as far away from the NY area as possible. One gig that's kind of obvious would be as the Eagles backup QB. That would give him the chance to settle in and watch for a couple of years and maybe get a grip on what he has to do to become a good NFL QB.
