Huh? what? You wouldn't trade a marginal CF prospect for a possible #1 starter, at worst a #2 starter.. It would take a hell of alot more than Melkey anyway. I still don't see why the Marlins would trade Willis and don't think they will..
I'll be honest, unless we're totally robbing a team for a pitcher like Peavy or Zambrano, I'd rather just not sign anyone (except for really cheap filler) and wait for Hughes, Clippard and Sanchez (if he stays as a starter) to be ready. I'd like Meche, but he's young with good stuff that can be fixed, so he'll get big money. No reason to give a #4 starter, #2 money (Lilly, Meche, Suppan), or #3 starter, #1 money (Zito, Schmidt). Just reading what all the writers are saying, it looks like we'll try to get a Lilly or Meche (or both) for 1-2 years at relatively decent prices. That would be fine. I'll be completely honest, we're not going to have the pitching to win a championship until two of Hughes, Clippard, and Sanchez are ready. That will probably be 2008, since they probably won't be quite ready when they first come up in the second half this year.
Well in the AL East, Willis would be a #3, but I'd still have to do Melky-for-Willis straight up. Of course, Florida wouldn't.
Al or NL, Willis is at worst a #2 & most likely a #1.. Not many teams in the AL, he wouldn't be the ace..
He just posted a 3.87 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in the NL East (a pitcher's park), and his peripherals are decent at best. In the AL East, he would be a #3 caliber pitcher.
In 05 he had a 2.63 ERA.. He would be the best pitcher on the Yanks, 2nd best on the Blue Jays, possibly 2nd best on the BoSox & do I need to even mention TB. He needs to be more consistent but he is 24 and has amazing "stuff".. And he can hit..
And in 2004 he had a 4.02 ERA. He's been up and down in the NL East between a #1 and a #3, which in the AL East would be like a #2 and a #4. He's still young, so he could become more consistent, but the fact that he is a young lefty who's "exciting" to watch, he'll be overvalued. Plus he has a delivery that could definitely lead to arm issues in the future. And speaking of TB, I would take Kazmir over him. He certainly could become more consistent and be a #2 caliber type in the AL East, who has the ability to be a #1 on occasion, but the package he would command I'd rather give up for a Peavy or Zambrano.
Damn how could I have forgotten about Kazmir..No doubt Willis needs more consistency & I do agree with his delivery it COULD lead to arm trouble. The fact that he is a young lefty with a ton of potential is worth taking the chance on as long as you are not giving up the farm. Peavy already has had arm troubles but IMO any of the 3 are major upgrades to anyone on the Mets or Yanks staff right now. I personally like the potential of Willis best but you really can't go wrong with either one..Barring injury of course..I think Willis also has the personality it takes to suceed in NY..
Well, he's certainly going to be back. All you can do is just hope that he gets his head fixed and can do what he did in the 2005 regular season for the entire year next year (reg. season and playoffs). Yogi Berra was 7-50 in his first 3 WS appearence. There's still hope.
I keep trying to convince myself that the worst part is over, but I can't even say that. He better get off to a quick start and have some meaningful hits, rally starters, etc. in the first few weeks. Or else I'll be leading a chorus of boos from the upper deck come May
I have to say, when it became public that ARod was staying, I was pissed. However, I'm feeling a lot like MM now. I have it in the back of my head that "Come on ARod, show us the 'best player in the game' next year." If he can play with his '05 form from April through October, then our chances at a title improve exponentially. Plus, I would truly love to see the career home run leader be a Yankee again. Especially if (when) Bonds takes that title away from Aaron.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/17/sports/baseball/17deals.html?_r=1&ref=baseball&oref=slogin Probably just Cashman making himself look not so desperate for a starter. Like last year when he said he would be willing to have Bubba start the season in CF, then signed Damon. If Cash can sign a reliever like Speier, then he can sell high and get something good in return for Proctor.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing Proctor get the 5th starter spot. He is very good when he is rested. Getting 4-5 days off in a row could really set him up for success. Of course I would rather get quality starters in here, but I don't think it would be an end-of-the-world scenario if Proctor joined the rotation. Surely he would perform better than Wright?
Proctor is much more valuable as a effective set up man than he would be as a 5th starter. And with the physical beating he took last year, who knows how he will respond. Too many unknowns.
That's very true, but it would be interesting to see. With the pen getting beefed up, he could wind up being an effective starter for us. Who knows? I just have a total blind faith in Cashman now.
http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/141286,181spt8.article Now that retard Mel is no longer the pitching coach, bringing back Javy wouldn't be a bad move. I'm sure they're more interested in Buehrle, though. Considering all of the power arms in our system, getting a guy like Buehrle won't bother me as much as it normally would. http://www.nypost.com/seven/11182006/sports/yankees/no_wait_watchers_yankees_george_king.htm Aurilia is a type A. We better not sign him.
We might not be trading for a White Sox starter after all. Rosenthal reporting Sox are close to trading Garland to Texas.
