sounds good in theory, reality says the last guy who tried that had billboards and a website named after him by week 8 and the villagers already have the torches lit for this season. so unless woody has told them they are safe through 2018 i'd expect a spending spree this march
This is the NFL and unless you have a true franchise qb, your team will be bouncing back and forth from 6-10 wins. That's life. But 10 wins can get you into the playoffs and then anything can happen. The jets have actually been pretty successful in the past 20 years or so considering the qbs they've had.
The Jets might be able to be competitive next year, if they are willing to mortgage the future of the franchise again. But honestly, there is not much talent on the roster other than the D Line. The vets are older and in steady decline. There are holes all over the roster. We have no money to spend in free agency. Our areas some consider strengths are fairly weak compared to the better NFL teams. Our running backs ? Receivers? O line? TEs ? DBs ? Depth is non-existent. No LT under contract , no proven QB. Another very tough schedule. In reality we are probably last in our division , maybe we squeak ahead of Buffalo but that's not a given. We should hope that Bowled hears a loud pop between now and September, that would be the sound of his head finnaly being pulled out of his ass , and the young roster shows up ready to complete. Next year's success should not be measured in wins and losses but instead by preparedness , development, and improvements.
I think the fan base was still expecting to return to the AFC championship and hopefully the Superbowl at that time. Then the draft came and we watched that last GM toss the next 4-5 years of the franchise's future out the window. That was his demise. Watching player after player the fans coveted come off the board while he sat on his 12 picks, making bad selections throughout the draft, and then seeing those selections he made on the field, or bench while the team sucked was too much. The majority of the fan base today want the complete overhaul. Finally they have grown tired of the win now, worry about next year , next year approached.
The plan was sound, the draft picks were disastrous. I agree, when BPA were by passed round after round, I honestly think other teams must have been laughing at the jets for not coming out of that draft with at least 4-5 long term starters.
It was tough to watch, honestly still tough to look Bach on. The talent in that draft was unreal, and we came away with next to nothing. There were opportunities to trade up, down or stand Pat and load up with 12 picks and he missed over and over. I wish woody would rehire him just so we could fire him again !!!
I hope Mac isn't pressured to make bad signings to try saving his job. Lets cut the vets, draft who we draft and bottom out one more year. Being a bottom two team in the league ensures us a shot at Rosen or Darnold without giving up a premium of picks to get our guy. People think we're a few steps away from playoff contention? Yeah right we're a lot closer to the worst team in the league than wild card and being the worst team in the league could actually save this haunted franchise if we landed our QB.
That sounds great and all but the reality of the situation is the Jets will try to be as competitive as possible. Mac and Bowles won't be here to select Rosen or Darnold if Jets bottom out this upcoming year. They are going to do whatever it takes to ensure they are still in draft room next draft.
sounds like the fools running the show still haven't figured out they need a qb before they need a cb..maybe they forgot their alphabet.
Seems to be a disservice to the fans by having these HCs and GMs fighting for their life every year. We're in QB purgatory every single season you think this team would catch on and tank one season for the chance to draft and develop a guy with a high chance of being a franchise QB. Instead we go all out to suck less than than other shit teams while they reap the benefits of moving up in the draft.
Okay and what QB are you drafting in a draft where the QB position is considered to be BAD at that spot? The CB position is LOADED...you can go BPA (minus CB) with the 1st round pick and then grab a Sidney Jones who can start from day 1, in round 2 for example.
If I were Mac I would make an effort to sign some positions of need through FA but not break the bank. Have a good draft taking BPA, this will be his third draft and they should have a good core of young players ready for this fall. 2018 should be the year where everything comes together, and it may attract some solid FA.
We develop talent then trade them or let them walk. What a brilliant idea it was to let Damon Harrison our undrafted stud walk in free agency. We also traded Revis while he was still a top notch corner. Not to mention a dozen other moves like this in the last decade.Jeremy Kerley had 67 catches for 700 yards and 3 TDs on a god awful 49ers team this year and 15 catches last year on a 10-6 Jets team.To say we mismanage talent would be a compliment.
I like the vibe on here NOT spending big in FA. I agree....let's get a decent team built through the draft before spending big to get the last piece to the puzzle.
That's not totally true. Burris developed nicely last season. The other CBs the Jets have drafted over the last 10 years (since 2007) are Burris, Dee Milliner, Dexter McDougle, Dwight Lowery, Kyle Wilson, and Revis. Most were simply bad picks. As you know Milliner and McDougle couldn't stay healthy. Wilson couldn't turn his head around. Lowery was foolishly given up on or allowed to leave in FA. He would have been excellent depth or a FS for the Jets. I believe Marcus Williams was a UDFA, and he's been OK. During that same time period, they've signed Cromartie, Skrine, Revis, Ty Law, Leon McFadden, Lito Sheppard, Marquice Cole, the CB from Miami who freaked out, tried to sign Asomughah, and the Colts' Marlin Jackson and Vontae Davis. I may have missed a few When you're constantly bringing in older vets to start, it's hard to develop younger players or make it a priority in the draft. Of course, drafting the wrong CBs has also discouraged them from drafting more. Good FA CBs cost a bloody fortune. Teams have to significantly overpay for them. We need to draft and develop a CB.
Just want to point out the reason the Jets have the ability to free up $50m in cap space is because of Maccagnan's approach to free agency. The way he's structured all of the contracts so far, we're mostly ever obligated to a player two years. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
