At 18 Howard would be a pretty good value. It is not like we are set at TE. There are some other players In like but I am not sure which will still be there at # 18 if any. It was just something I was kicking around since the trade value chart has it as a win win for all three teams. I think the sweet spot (especially if we want an edge rusher or one of the elite players who slips) is #14. It is one pick ahead of the Colts who have many of the needs we have.
Well I'm not trying to criticize you for being creative. I appreciate most of your posts, and they seem rooted in thoughtful research, but I really can't see taking a TE as the first pick. Frankly, I think the biggest improvement we need at TE is someone who can coach, and draw up game plans that actually understand how to use one. Of course, I could make that same statement about every position on the team, which is the root of our problem. It seems like no matter what players we might get, it's nothing more than "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" as long as we have an idiot at the helm.
To be fair Howard shredded Alabama for almost 200 yards in the national championship game. If he really is the next Tony Gonzales or Shannon Sharpe it would not be a bad pick. At this point I am sure it is easy to lock onto someone at #6 but when you get to the 14-18 range it is hard to say that a player will be there. Howard is projected between 19 and 28 so at least you can't tell me "there is no way he will drop that low". I like the pass rushers but am having a hard time ranking them after Garret at this point.
