Fuck it. Grab Watson at 6 if he's there. Beef up the OL through the draft and free agency. Keep Marshall and Decker.
At least it would be entertaining. We would know what we are getting - so we won't have to be unnecessarily hopeful for the incoming season if anything. Watching your QB getting slaughtered is a bonus.
I don't want either Trubisky or Watson. I don't think that either are that good. They can get a stud pass rusher or Reuben Foster at #6. While I want to see the offense upgraded and get the #1 pick, the reality is aside from RB there isn't an offensive player suitable for #6 aside from maybe Fournette or Mike Williams, and we can get a very good RB in round 3 or 4 who would be a lot better than the pass rusher we could get in the same round, and while we could use a future #1 WR to replace B. Marshall, we need a pass rusher more. We've needed a quality pass rusher for over 10 years. The Jets have a golden opportunity to get one this year. If they don't, I will seriously freak out and will be ready for heads to roll
I tell you what Watson is light years ahead of what we have on this roster. He's got the same calm, cool it factor that both Wilson and Prescott have. He's probably going to look average in workouts and then go on to be a great NFL quarterback.
Trade half way down in the first round hopefully acquire another pick top of the second round. If Watson is there get him if not pick a LT or CB or Edge. Use the 2 second round picks and trade back into the first round and get another difference maker or stay put. That's what do i know.
The top tier of this draft includes Watson, Garret, Allen, and Williams. If we can trade up for cheap or one of those guys falls in our lap we should take them, otherwise trading down looks like great idea. With those guys off the board, the second tier looks to be at least a dozen players deep. Trading down 10-12 spots could leave us drafting a player almost as good as the guy we could get at #6 if we do not really care about what position that player plays. Given the number of holes in our starting lineup it doesn't seem to matter if we get a pro bowler at CB, S, OLB, ILB, WR, or RB as long as we get a stud at any one of those positions.
If you look at it another way....If the QBs fall past our pick the qb needy teams drop considerably. Cleavland and possibly Arizona at 12 will maybe be the only one in the first round. If Cleveland takes one at 1 then that takes them off the list at 12. Trading down in the middle of the draft allows us to gain picks and still get a qb if that's what the jets want. We should not be trading picks we need them all. If a qb gets to us later in the 1st or 2nd great but at 6 it's a hard sell.
Click this link, and listen to what Nick Saban had to say about Watson last summer. He was saying back then Clemson should be the favorites not Alabama due to Watson returning. Bottom line, Deshaun Watson is the next significantly dominant quarterback entering the NFL Draft.
There's no such thing as trading up for cheap unless we could trade Richardson to move up a couple of spots. The Jets cannot afford to be trading away draft picks.
We would be better off trading up for a highly productive player than staying put and ending up with two or three scrubs. With that being said chances are that we would be better off trading down than staying put. I would live it if Garret fell to us but we are the Jets and our luck hasn't been that good.
Leonard Williams fell to the jets at 6 and that was considered a long long shot. Who knows it's the luck of the draft.
That is what the pick should have been yes although it's turned out great...Sometimes sticking to BPA on your board regardless of position is not the best policy.
The fact remains that the Jets need a Franchise QB, and Watson could well be that guy. You can argue that he isn't, but how do you explain away his record of winning and overcoming the odds consistently to do so? And if you don't go for him, who do you go for? None of the FAs or possible QBs available for trade are any more of a lock, and IMO, less so, and would not come cheap either. Moreover, signing a vet QB would block the development of Petty and Hack, and potentially worse, might enable the Jets to win just enough games to take them out of range of a top 3 draft pick in 2018, thus erasing any chance of getting their FQB in that draft. I agree that the Jets have a lot of holes to fill, and cannot waste draft picks, but if they snag their FQB who plays for the next 10+ years for them, it's not a waste, it's a wise investment.
