I think I mentally blocked it or something.

The really sad thing is that the long playoff drought was completely predictable based on the fact that the Jets top 5 players each year during the last decade have tended to include several 28-30 year old mercenaries bought on the free agent market and their 2nd round picks have tended to be gone by the last year of their rookie deal.

i could have started a new thread to say this or really put it in 6 or 7 different threads but im going to put it here.

this place is really fantastic right now. its as civil and informative as its been collaboratively in a long long time. coming out of a tough season guys are giving their points of view and going back and forth with civility and information and understanding that not all of us see or view things the same way.

The one constant is woody. He's not a football guy but he's trying to be one. Just a hobby to him. For once I would like to see some anger or frustration that we have but he can't be honest because in his world honesty does not work. He belongs in the government

i just cant even imagine what those monday morning meetings with woody must look like. does one of htem show up at 8 and the other at 815 and if the first one goes long does the 2nd guy have to wait outside his big office doors?

i mean seriously, they both report to me.

Does anyone think woody spent the weekend watching the games eating nachos or went to the Met sat night and a fundraiser on Sunday afternoon. I don't think our owner is a football fan I really don't. Would love to talk NFL with woodster

Any time you go into a pick thinking "this is going to make me look like a genius" you need to rethink that pick fast because 31 other GM's and scouting staffs will tell you right after the pick that you're an idiot not a genius.

Another way to put it is if the pick works out you're a genius but otherwise you'll be perceived as an idiot and no pick anywhere is better than 50/50 to work out. Picks like Hackenberg are more like 90/10 to fail.

The D-Rob fiasco was a fiasco because the Jets traded up to pick him. He'd have been a good 2nd round pick but trying to look like a genius by trading up for him was just asking to be called an idiot later.

This is the cusp of it. If you don't enjoy being a fan and riding that roller coaster, then don't be one. The Jets had a bad year, but you know what? 2 years ago was worse and the Jets have it better than many other teams. At least the Jets have a super bowl win and have playoff wins in the last 10 years.

Call me an apologist, but our fan base needs some motivation. Winning a super bowl is not easy.

Bills, Bengals, Eagles, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Titans, Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, Lions, Vikings and Chargers have all NEVER won a superbowl. That's a little less than half the teams in the NFL. I'll take the Jets over any of those teams.

Out of those teams, Browns, Lions, Texans, and Jaguars have never even made it to a super bowl. The Lions haven't even won a playoff game since 91. The Bills haven't even made the playoffs since 99.

It could be way worse. People act like building a contender is easy.

I have to admit that I am fed up. I have watched this team since 1960 and they have sucked for a good deal of that time. They have even been abysmal at times. But I never told myself that I was fed up. I had high hopes for this coach coming in but now I think he stinks and another year would be a waste. You could not check off a single box in his favor off his performance this year. He has done everything wrong. Unacceptable in any case. Allowing him to fail another year is just a thumb of the nose at Jet fans. Because a new guy coming in will need some time to get his feet on the ground and I am too old to just give up years anymore. That is probably the crux of it. I know we are not close and Woody does not seem to give a fig. I am fed up. 56 years of fandom will do that. Still, it is too late to change allegiances. I may just stop watching.

the problem for me is that woody is just doing things to do them. he probably fired mangini too quickly, ok cool. he fired idzik very quickly, yeah he should have and none of it has worked so he is going to hold onto bowels just because it is not what he did before. its absurd and i am willing to bet that the 2 buffoons who brought him in made him think this way.

And I can almost understand that, except I saw a coach this year who had evaporated. He made mistakes last year, sure. But he did everything wrong this year. There is really no going back from that. I have zero confidence in him. If I had a business and this guy was one of my employees, he would be out the door. He failed too miserably. It might not look good to dump him after two years, but he has no foothold in that locker room. People say they respect him then go and do something stupid all over again. Mo and Sheldon completely ignore him. Revis does not try. Just too much. And now we are looking at another 5 years of blah, more than likely. He will be gone after next year and the new Five Year Plan will begin. It is like the USSR in the 20s and 30s. Minus the executions of course.

It's not the difficulty part, it's the part where having certain owners will make it impossible to
build a superbowl winner (not just "contend").

i agree with you, for me he is done, has been done and has no chance to be successful here. i would hvae fired him mid season this year.

but woody seems like he is going to keep him only because he has fired guys a little too early in the past. its more idiocy from our owner.

and if Woody goes off to England as an ambassador and leaves his brother in place? Does this not sound like a moratorium of playoff competition?
