Add to the fact that proclaiming it as a "Sanctuary City" is misleading. All that means is that the city will not cooperate in prosecuting criminals, it does nothing from preventing the Federal Government from going in and delivering justice.

True, I worded my statement incorrectly, should be easy enough to make the judgement based on the facts but prosecutors let their biases control them.

I know people who voted for Trump that are nothing alike and if you tried to tell them they "collectively have a sense of unity" they would look at you like you had 2 heads.

Yes, I believe they kidnapped him and tortured him because of his skin color. I do not at all believe they did any of that because they believe he voted for Trump. I also do not think any of the attackers ever voted before, just based upon their age. I would also think the 18 year old victim likely never voted before. The "Fuck Trump" chant was likely just something they saw going around and they added it to their repertoire.

You wouldn't get any argument from me if they each got sentenced to 40 years so we agree about that.

    5 dead, 8 wounded, 1 precious.

Not to worry, Ft. Lauderdale just shoved this story to the side.

I'm glad we agree on the second part, and that is really the only important thing.

However, I enjoy debating and arguing, so I'll continue. There are many different kinds of Trump voters. There are people like me who are all over the political map. If we spoke for an hour, I'd have you believe that I am a liberal, a conservative, and a libertarian. I have a few acquaintances on facebook are just a few drinks from throwing up a sieg heil, and some who were liberals who just couldn't take the regressive left anymore. I fully understand that not all Trump voters are cut from the same cloth.

It's my opinion that they kidnapped the man because he was white AND a Trump voter. I do not for one second think that they would have attacked him had he been a Bernie supporter. I also believe that they would have attacked him had he been black and a Trump voter. Part of me believes that they would have beaten him worse had he been a black Trump voter.

I'm glad you acknowledge that Trump voters are comprised of a wide variety of social groups, and are not in themselves a social group.
that is why political affiliation in itself is not a hate crime, and the Trump aspect really has no bearing on how this case will be prosecuted.

to me this is a hate crime IF the guy was targeted for this abuse solely for being either white or disabled. I don't have all the facts to know whether that was the case or not.
but no matter how it's labeled, it's a disgusting crime that should have serious consequences.

and there's nothing wrong with having some liberal, some conservative, and some libertarian views on different issues.
i think most people do, as long as they're not just a partisan sheep. this country needs more people thinking across party lines.

Attacking someone specifically for who they voted for or for their political affiliation is a hate crime. You can keep saying that it's not, but it doesn't change that it is.

    From Wikipedia:
"Hate crime laws in the United States
protect against hate crimes (also known as bias crimes) motivated by enmity or animus against a protected class. Although state laws vary, current statutes permit federal prosecution of hate crimes committed on the basis of a person's protected characteristics of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, political views and disability. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)/FBI, as well as campus security authorities, are required to collect and publish hate crime statistics."

    From FBI website:
"Of the 45 states and the District of Columbia that have enacted laws to address hate crimes and bias-based attacks:  32 include bias based on disability;  31 include bias based on sexual orientation;  28 include bias based on gender;  14 include bias based on gender identity;  13 include bias based on age; and  5 include bias based on political affiliation.2"

    it's not true...
here is the FBI site on hate crimes, including their definition on hate crime.
    https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/civil-rights/hate-crimes

if every assault over who you voted for was prosecuted as a hate crime tho, as you're suggesting, there would be way too many hate crimes.

if this incident is indicted as a hate crime, it will be over racial or disability grounds, not because they said Trump.

If assaulting someone over who you voted for was a hate crime, Trump supporters would be fucked as seen in nearly every Trump rally.

i doubt those 4 even thought about who he voted for. they saw a white boy and snatched him up. the "fuck trump" was just from what they heard on the street and figured it would be fun to make him say it

It's not really an interruption when you get on your knees in the middle of the circle with your mouth wide open.

    You're right.

I just should be discussing consequences.

    That are caused by elections.
