Is anyone besides me thinking that Bowles won't hire his potential replacement??? Woody doesn't like or hire people with past HC experience and whomever Bowles talks into taking this job would have to be thinking long term possibility. Bowles knows he's a lameduck although no one is saying it publically. Only a miracle can save his job and when it comes to the Jets, miracles are in short supply. I think the last one was against the Dolphins years ago on a Monday nite game. If Bowles does hire an OC with prior HC experience, he'll be walking on eggshells the entire season looking over his shoulder.

So your saying the Jets should focus on building their team, the way the current Dallas Cowboys are built.

Ok Mac, get it done, start focusing on the oline in this years draft and sign another TE to go with ASJ.

The oline already has Carpenter, Mangold, Winters, Shell, they need a LT and they can be a good running team.

Let him work with Hack and Petty, not that hard!

He will get fired either way, seasoned or rookie OC. He better hope that whoever he hires is good enough to help him turn this team around, TB will look like a genius and he will keep his job.

You and I know that won't happen, this team is doomed next year.

My point is that the Jets have a long way to go before they look like the current Dallas Cowboys. They should absolutely build the offensive line up but that is something the GM needs to work on. It doesn't get fixed in one offseason or with an offensive coordinator. Hiring Norv Turner in Bowles' 3rd year does more harm than good for that O-line.

We saw what the Coryell system offense looked like with an average OL at the end of Schottenheimer Jr.'s time here. Now imagine it with a below average or bad offensive line. yikes. that's what it would be like with Turner here.

and what good what it be for him to work with Hack and Petty when the staff gets fired after the year anyway because his square peg/round hole offense wouldn't lead to a turn-around, and a turn-around is what they need.

McCoy is Erhardt-Perkins, has worked well with QBs, and has the ability to adjust his style based on personnel and opponent. He would be my personal top choice but he might be hard to get. I wouldn't be opposed to promoting our WR coach to the job

Why do we dismiss the idea that it can't be turned around in one season?

Honestly no matter what OC the jets bring in, they will have one season to make it work or he will be looking for a job next year as well.

The oline is not in terrible shape going into next season, the Jets need a LT, other than that, I can see, Carpenter, Mangold, Winters, Shell as the starters. With ASJ as their starting TE.

Marshall, Enunwa, Anderson and Peake as the WR core.

Hack and Petty have to deal with the fact that the business of the NFL will have them learning different offensive terminology because coaches getting fired is par for the course.

If Mac has a good draft and FA period, the Jets could be in a position to succeed next year. The wild card is TB, if he is as bad as we all think he is, then it's all for nothing.

Shell played like 3 meaningless games I'd hardly pencil him in as a quality starting right tackle for next season...he'll compete, we will see what we get out of him, but Turner would have him blocking without TE help, on an island with the QB taking 5 step drops. That's how Schottenheimer's O imploded with Wayne F. Hunter. A lot to ask a kid like Shell

I also don't believe Mangold will be back.

and I'm not saying the Jets can't succeed next year, the right moves here and there could turn them around to respectability. But hiring Norv Turner would ensure there is no turn-around because this offense would struggle, clearly IMO, based on its personnel and his system. And for any turn-around to happen, this offense can't struggle

All I know is that the plan was to work on Hack's mechanics during the offseason. Now he doesn't have an OC or QB coach until when?

BN, I respect your knowledge when it comes to football, and many of your posts, but bringing Wayne Hunter into the conversation does not solidify your argument against Norv.

Wayne Hunter should have never been allowed to dress by any team in the NFL and it really showed how bad the CS was at judging talent.

The fact is that Norv or any OC would not have Wayne Hunter anchoring the right side of the Jets line. There is also nothing wrong with the RT of any team being on an island against defensive players during a game, it's part of their job.

Remember what Gailey asked Giacomini to do against the Giants and the Texans? They destroyed Giacomini, it did not stop Gailey from being pass happy and keeping Fitz and any of his QBs in the shotgun formation 90% of the time, yet many of our posters wanted Gailey to be retained.

I will take Norv over Gailey any day of the week. Really it's just my personal opinion that Norv would do a good job with this team if Mac had a good off season.

However, I would not be disappointed if the jets hired Mcoy, and again it all depends on the off season Mac has. Mcoy could be hired and come into a terrible situation.

I've had enough of Karl Dorrell when he coached UCLA. Dorrell and Bowles should be narrating children's books to put kids to sleep. The only competition this team will have with those two clowns is who can speak more soft and monotone between them.

Problem with 4 ingredients can be solved in Offseason

    OL upgraded via draft

    Power runners Powell Fournette

TE draft or get a cheap FA or just use our Stefarian Jenkins

    We have WR to stretch

Norv Ts design is NOT outdated ....just look at the Cowboys with Witten Dak Zeke and DEz

FTR he had a good thing goin in Minnie this year till "communication break' with Zimmer...I think the Vikings were undefeated for 3 or 4 weeks this Season

This all said there is no way Bowles lets such a good thing happen here as he gets replaced for his bonehead HC decisions

His stench will bring us some dung beetle

It's going to be some turd that few people are familiar with, but somebody will find a bio about the guy, past a thread about it and half the fans will get excited when the team doesn't do as bad as they did this year.

Then everybody will get fired next year and they'll hire some new turds for people to get excited about.

I know the Jets will want to save face concerning saying they are bringing Bowles back, but O'Brien is too much of an upgrade for this team to let him pass if he really did shake loose.

The Jets should try to pull off a legitimate coach trade. I really hope Mac has been having discussions with Rick Smith. Perhaps I'm going completely off the rails here but along with Bowles, I'd send the Texans Richardson and/or Pryor to get them to send us O'Brien before he ever has a chance to negotiate with other teams.

That's assuming: 1) the Texans would accept Bowles as their coach and 2) they see more value in the players we offer than in hiring someone other than Bowles.

I know I'm dreaming but hey why not.

I don't think they were meaningless games for the Fins and Pats. You can't ink him in as a starter, he's got to earn that still, but he showed enough to suggest that he had a good shot at earning it.

He has groomed such stud QBs as Jamarshmellow Russell, Mark Sanchez, Matt Mcgloin, Terrelle Pryor and John Manziel. I can't wait to see what happens when he gets his hands on Hackenberg and Petty
