It won't be off of their defense but more than likely we will be selecting defense in the first round, barring a trade-down. No good LT prospects at the top of the draft.
I happen to think Malik Hooker is better, but if he were to play I would assume safety. I would rather get Leonard Fournette at 6, or Tim Williams although I think he's not a complete edge player. At 6 you would think you should get an edge rusher that is better in run support. Tim Williams one hell of a pass rusher, but needs to be coached up into a bed run defender as well. Fournette IMO may be the first or second best talent in the entire class.
The Jets really need to trade down if that's the case. Get some more picks and get a tackle in the 1st round. Those guys don't grow on trees and winding up with WFH or another JAG getting your QB killed is what happens when you neglect the position high in the draft.
The tackles projected to go in round 1 this year aren't any good and they aren't worth a top 15 pick. And there also will be several blue chippers at positions of need at pick 6. They'll have their choice of an elite edge rusher, elite inside linebacker, or they could opt for a Jamal Adamas/Malik Hooker to help rebuild the secondary. Forcing an OL pick would be a bad decision in this draft.
Jets never seem to trade down, can't remember the last time it happened. I think we can stand pat at 6, take someone then try and trade back up into the late first using Sheldon and a late pick as bait.
Teams with no stability usually trade up, not down. That's why the Jets never trade down except in the latter rounds.
No, damn it, not defense in round 1 again. I hope they trade down and get several picks because they got more holes than ever. And could we please get on the OL early and often? Brent Q., Dakota D. Ben I., Ryan C., and Breno G. are either "has beens" or never was's." Draft/sign some decent OL.
The OL is not a one year job. Get a potential pro bowler at guard or center this year and worry about left tackle next year.
May or may not not be a one year job but you HAVE to start the process sometime and now is the time. fill one need with draft another with free agent.
I wouldn't touch Peppers with a 10 foot pole after he sat out the Bowl game. Same with the two running backs from LSU and Stanford.
I mean I don't want Fournette or Peppers either, but do you blame the kids for sitting out and risking millions upon millions of dollars for a meaningless bowl game victory? Fournette and McCaffrey were banged up all year long. They all have first round grades. They were one torn ACL away from maybe being drafted but not playing in the NFL next year which puts an NFL runningback one year closer to age 30 and out of the league. Not to mention Peppers legitimately got hurt the day before. A player like him would be a non factor with a bum hamstring. Would you have played?
I have a nuanced position ... I do not blame (at all) the two running backs for sitting out, but on the other hand, it demonstrates a level of selfishness and self-interest that I don't want any part of on my professional football team. These types of people (no matter how great a player), at best, eventually screw you and, at worst, spread their selfishness like cancer. Let them be someone else's million dollar gamble. That said, what Peppers did was 100x worse ... he let his team believe he was going to play right up until an hour before kickoff. They gameplanned for him being there. Presumably, the backups didn't get to practice time he did because they believed he'd be there. He totally screwed his team royally. Completely self centered.
You must be rich. Some of these guys come from nothing and now like so many of you wealthy guys have the opportunity to take care of generations of his family and you call that selfish? It sounds like you want exclusivity in your club. Pop waner was for the love of the game up into 8th grade...then once elite talent was realized it became a strategy with the purpose to play on the next biggest stage. Im proud of all these young men who have done the right thing since they furst strapped on the equipment to the day their name is announced. Peppers is a beacon of light in a community filled with darkness and none of you have the right to suggest otherwise. #itsbiggerthanonegame.
Pass.... Go shore up the Ol NOW Plus another RB that rocks Hmmm...trade down not a bad idea but ya gotta know what you are doing and....well u know I hope MM is up to this with his new staff
Don't watch college ball but wanna weigh in Peppers sitting out a bowl game to avoid injury, and avoid risking his entry into the NFL. Of course I can see the reasoning, but I also think this make his selfish. NFL is all about becoming a team player. This guy will never be a team player. Pass.
Peppers had a hamstring in practice. It happens. He had a hand injury late last year and sat out that bowl game also. Was that also because he was worried about his draft position if he announced? The guy who lost the most out of the hamstring injury was Peppers. He had a chance to showcase his talents in front of a national audience and build up some buzz leading into the draft process. Also, he has not yet announced. He may well come out this year but Harbaugh is trying hard to get him to come back and win a national championship and he might just succeed with that pitch. The players like playing for him.
The 6 spot has been strange for the Jets from Gholston to Leo Williams. There's no way Williams should have been there when the Jets drafted in 2015 but he was. Maybe the Jets get lucky and a blue-chip falls and they can trade the slot to somebody who really wants the guy. Maybe they take the guy and trade him after the pick to somebody who figured the Jets would let him slide by. The good thing about being where the Jets are is that nobody is going to feel safe about a defensive player or an offensive player sliding by the Jets. This year we're a major talent stop on the 6 and so people will have to deal with us accordingly. That's the benefit of having taken Leo Williams two years ago. Nobody gets freebies after the Jets slot at this point.
