So here I am, another season where the JETS have let me down. I envy my friends who are fans of other teams, some of which made it to the playoffs. For them, football is fun to watch. They are fans of teams who are competitive and always seem to be in the hunt. Although their teams don't always win a super bowl, they were at the very least, competitive and even made it to the playoffs some times. For them, football is a fun activity, where they can talk smack to one another, and wear their colors with pride and can even take a verbal beating during a losing season because their teams usually bounce right back. I find myself on the outside looking in because I can't join in on the smack talking because my team is the New York Fucking JETS. I can't take pride in my quarterback standing in the pocket knowing he's about to get lit up but throws a perfect 50 yard bomb down the field to an all star receiver with a house hold name because my team is the God Damn Fucking JETS! For them, watching there team move the chains like a well oiled machine, or having a defense that makes life difficult for a QB is all part of the fun. But I can't join in on the festivities! My team struggles to move the chains like it's the most difficult task on earth, and my teams defense is just on the field to occupy space! To them, football is fun, to me, it is the equivalent of taking an AIDS test every Sunday. I want to give up on the JETS and walk away so bad, and just pick another team! It sounds so easy! Just buy another jersey, just stop watching them play! But I can't! Right now is the perfect storm for me to walk away! The Patriots are about to win the super bowl for the 5th time, Toilet Bowls is back, Woody Johnson is Trumps shmuck to the U.K. and his brother is going to run the team whoever the hell HE is, the locker room is in disarray, Revis sucks, and no light at the end of the tunnel for this franchise! Why can't I walk away?! Am I that stupid to think the JETS can win a super bowl in my life time? Am I stupid? I'm I masochistic? Do I like yelling at the TV on Sundays and hate ducking football talk with my friends? Damn I suck!
Just put the Jets on the backburner...dont invest in them and take the team seriously if they dont want to take things seriously with the fans
Nothing is wrong with you..... everybody here probably asks that question daily..... I'll tell you that I became a fan when I was 5..... I watched a tape of Joe Namath winning our only Super Bowl victory..... Been hooked ever sense..... I then got to watch my first Jet game on tv a week after..... it was at that moment, even at 5 I knew I was in for a lifetime of pain due to my beloved jets......
If you'd like to look for a support group in your area, please visit toddbowles.com to find others struggling with losing. PS. I am not Todd Bowles posting under a fake account.
We're always waiting for that day when the Jets will prove them all wrong and we'll get our moment in the sun. Well it took the Cubs over 100 years and I doubt hardly any of us live that long.
Hmm...100 years that would be 2069 Hey only 54 to go! Sheesh...almost forgot to take my baby aspirin and cholesterol meds today
I was alive for SBIII, but was 7 months old so I have no recollection of it. I fully expect to live to see another Jets victory. But this is the Jets we're talking about so it will be just before I shuffle off this mortal coil and I'll probably be so senile I don't know what's going on. Until then I forecast extended periods of abject misery interrupted by occasional bouts of hope that are ultimately more painful than the misery.
l ,Just lke you guys I have bled Green my entire life,,,,,I never thought I would walk away from my season tickets , there was a time if you told me that would happen it would have been laughed at by myself or anyone that knows me ! As a Jet fan the worst part besides the dysfunction is that if the day ever comes and they actually do turn it around it won't be as enjoyable as it should be because we as Jet fans are always waiting for the other shoe to drop or the rug to be pulled out from under us. The 2 AFCC runs were fun but I cant lie ,I always thought in the back of my mind that they were not going to win those games, go figure huh ? The Jet organization is making it easy for people to walk away, and much like the thought of giving up my season tickets was once unthinkable the the thought of walking away from Woody and this mess is also no longer a pipe dream it is very much becoming a reality !
I was alive for SB3 and watched it. My dad took me to a Titans game back in the Polo Grounds and I became a fan then. Little did I know the suffering I would subject myself to over the coming decades. Enough of the Pity Party Bullshit. We're Jets fans and we don't win shit. Life ain't fair. It is what it is and the Jets are what they are. Fuck it! Being a Jets fan means you deal with it. Now stop whining about it. We knew what it was all along . No one fooled us. Anyway, take it from an Oldtimer. Its possible to be a "Fan" without being a "fanatic" although the words are rooted in each other. As Poe said, do not invest 100% emotionally in this team. Watch this team from a birdseye view, not with a fisheye. The Jets are gonna keep on stumbling and bumbling until either Woody has an epiphany or sells the team. Don't look for either to happen anytime soon. There is nothing you can do to affect this team one way or the other as an individual. Do not allow yourself to get sucked into the bullshit that is the Jet PR machine. When it comes to the New York Jets as presently constructed, be from Missouri. Be skeptical. Do not take anything at face value.. I have two words of wisdom for you my young Jeti apprentice: "Show Me!"
In any given year, 97% of all football fans come away bitter and disappointed. 97%. I haven't met a happy Carolina fan yet, and they have a league MVP QB who took his 15-1 team to the SB less than a year ago. And Bronco fans were like Trump fans....woke up the next day shocked they had won!
i havent lived and died with the jets in decades. they annoy the shit out of me but i understand how to put them in their box and move on with life. they dont care about you or me, why should we care about them? they are as was stated above simply entertainment. now if we talk about notre dame its a completely different situation for me. i still have deep seeded fanatacism with that team. i dont have that with the jets any longer.
Take off your skirt. If rooting for a shitty football team is the worst thing that can happen to you, you're doing pretty okay in my book.
I used to go to Shea and get standing room for $5. Park my car on Main St. and take the train one stop. The Jets are in the blood. When my brother married a Jet players sister I got better seats. The Super Bowl victory was the beginning of what I thought was the first of many. Like all Jet fans I'm still waiting. Maybe next year. Go Jets!
I turned 11 on Jan. 13, 1969....what a great day, later that year the Amazins won the WS, the Knicks won the NBA championship in 1970.....didn't realize at the time how special it was and the suffering that would come, but the Mets in 86 and Rangers in 93, just hope the Jets don't take a 100 yrs, cause I will probably be dead
You guys are dramatic as hell. Go make friends with a Lions fan and recognize how good you have it. Being a Jets fan in NY/NJ, I imagine, makes it easy for a fan to stew in his own pity party. As a Jets fan in the middle of nowhere, my friends are fans of teams from all over the country. Hell, I only know three other Jets fans. I know a lot of Titans, Panthers, and Falcons fans. If you think their fans have it better than Jets fan, then I think you'll be very disappointed once you put on your new team's jersey. The grass is not always greener on the other side. We bitch about not winning a SB in so long, but please remember that there are 13 teams that have never won one. Some of them are relatively new, like the Texans and Jaguars, but some of them are original AFL teams, like the Chargers, Bills, and Bengals, and some are even older, like the Lions, Cardinals, and Eagles. So to anybody who wants to jump ship, I say go for it. Go be a Panthers fan and find out how much happier they are a year after going 15-1 with the league MVP than we are after going 10-6 with and missing the playoffs Fitzpatrick.
