Woody's not going to think like that. my mindset is what set of circumstances increases the odds of a rebuild occurring when you consider Woody Johnson's track record and mindset. Keeping Bowles for another season, means a rebuild is most likely not going to happen. That's just the reality of the situation.

Woody's a strange guy and seems like he changes his mind easily so who knows who's in his ear now

All I can do is give my opinion on it

I guess we can re-visit this thread after FA and the draft....I also prefer a rebuild but its very rare to see a complete rebuild now a days in the NFL.

No, he wouldn't have. If you let him hire his head coach, you're committing to him for at least another two seasons. I'm pretty sure Woody Johnson remembers the disaster that 2013 GM search was. I doubt he would force a head on a GM again(if you believe Mac would be on the hot seat in this case), seeing how no one wanted the job in 2013 because of Rex.

I fear your right. Let's hope the owner knows something more than we do about the goings on in the clubhouse which would make him keep Bowles and also not mandate playoffs next year. Just build the young talent and show solid improvement.

The team just needs excitement for them to keep their jobs....Either in the form of a playoff run or a young and promising team on the cusp heading into 2018 (With hopefully a QB to build around)

Well I think a lot of folks are going to be disappointed on the QB front. I think in a rebuild with two young guys on your roster, you build up your OL and play either Petty or Hack. THere is no day one starter QB in the draft and no one that isn't a big question mark or a one year rental in free agency.

In a macro level, big picture kind of way, I agree that axing another coach and esp. GM after just two years would signal a disastrous lack of patience. But then I see the Jets take a timeout on fourth and 1 at the 20 in the third quarter against a team that just fired its coach and benched its QB and proceed to get absolutely stuffed on the most predictable run up the gut and I really have to wonder why they just don't hire a monkey to throw darts at the wall if this is the kind of coaching we can expect.

This is depressing, yet at the same time completely predictable.

And, when they announce the firing of Chan Gailey, they'll be setting back the young offensive players even more, as they'll have to, in some cases, learn three different offenses in three consecutive seasons after Bowles is fired following next year's 2-5 win campaign.

Agree beef up the O-line....Add one more playmaker and a tight end and we have some nice pieces at WR and in Powell.

Just need improvement and hope from a young QB if they go that route.....I understand they likely wont be amazing day one even with everything around them.

Absolutely right. Now that Bowles is safe I hope they keep Chan as well. The QB's need continuity to be effective. The Jets will be hamstringing them otherwise.

well what a surprise... i swear. If they don't cut the unperforming, over paid vets and go young, build the OL, get a PS and trade pruor and risherson, we are in for another shit year

If he was the third string guy, I wouldn't be upset with Fitz sticking around. Only with a similar contract that the Texans paid him. Like $3 mio

Yeah I get that the fan base wants to jettison him. But as the guy backing up Petty and Hack he would be fine. It seems like they work well together and it keeps continuity. Between him and someone like Hoyer it's shit for shit.

Rather use the roster spot and reps on a rookie with some kind of potential in that case

So you think it would be better to have Petty/Hack/Rookie? I have no problem with that, but all the experts think you need a vet on the roster.

Fuck that. Fitz publicly called out the entire organization for getting benched when he deserved to be decapitated. And we have a locker room/leadership/accountability issues? I have zero fucks to give about continuity and working well together. This is about sending a message that horseshit performance gets your ass cut.
