Actually the burden of proof is on the news organization reporting the news, at least it used to be when news organizations actually were news organizations and not shills for political parties
Your proof is missing a step in between the two bolded statements. As I've said before, fake news is defined as publishing false reports for the purpose of misleading people. Unless you can make a strong case that CNN published the false report on purpose, you don't get to call it fake news.
I was specifically referring to the burden of proof for calling something fake news. What you're talking about is different.
Fake news is fake news, the fact that CNN did not do their job and verify the report is on them. They reported fake news. I'm not buying into your, "Fake news is intentionally designed to mislead", but obviously someone put the report about the school out there to be designed to mislead, so the report CNN put out was fake news according to your definition. That they were not the original source is irrelevant.
