The team's such a shit-show, what would it really tell us?
May as well wait until he at least has some real team reps under his belt

The only thing the jets have done right this season, and the only thing they've actually stuck too was their plan to sit Hack for the year. They knew his final 2 seasons weren't the best but they also saw a lot of potential. Not only does he have prototypical size and a cannon for an arm but he is extremely advanced in his ability to dissect the opposing defense and what they want to do.

Jets know that he played under a coaching staff in college that utilized him terribly. Furthermore, his o-line was awful and had at one point allowed 10 sacks in a single game against Temple.

The way I see it there is literally no reason for the Jets to play hack. If he has to play because Fitz gets injured then that's is fine. If not, let him dress, and sit on the bench. The Jets will focus their entire offseason on Hack in order to fix his mechanics.

and if they can't "fix" Hack in the offseason, then what? Back to the drawing board again?

If they can't they will probably keep him on the bench, this time being the number 2 and they will either draft another QB (although if they do it'll probably be a late round QB) or get a qb through free agency.

Ideally the Jets start Petty next year and then at 0-4 they turn to Hackenberg to finish off the tank season that will get them their QB.

Jimmy Clausen got the Panthers Cam Newton.

He should play, especially now that Rex Ryan won't be there to unleash his blitz package on him. He should be put out there only for the purpose of getting him some reps on film that he can go back in the offseason and evaluate and learn from, in addition to getting an idea of how an NFL game flows and how fast it is as opposed to the college game that he's used to. Nobody, not Jets management nor the fans, should expect anything other than that out of him. Anything beyond that would simply be icing on the cake.

What the hell kind of answers are those? A simple yes or no would have sufficed.

Honestly? The Jets and Bills should make a gentleman's agreement to just treat it like the last game of the pre-season. Play the backups, keep it vanilla, just let guys get experience and no one gets hurt.

But what has he been doing this season to further his development?

Watching tapes? How much is that really helping anything?

I don't think he has taken a lot of snaps in practice.

I think you're oversimplifying Hack's issues significantly. You don't just "fix" an NFL QB's mechanics and he's suddenly good to go the next year. You either have NFL accuracy or you don't and that's a key trait of any decent or better QB in the pros. That's something you typically develop and refine long before you get to the league. Also not so sure the Jets plan was to sit him all year.

I find it hard to believe that this 2nd rd (reach) pick is incapable of playing after being
in Jets camp since May?? The only reasonable conclusion is; he is a "bust"!!!!

I've never seen a team be so reluctant to play a high draft pick like this

I understand he needs to work on his mechanics or whatever but why was he playing in preseason then?

This is essentially less important than preseason

Sign Mike Glennon in off-season, we have (4) QBs...none are NFL starters....

    Odd situation.

Even if Hack is "ready", how well could he do given the current status of the team and more specifically the OL?

The Bills would send the house on every play. Hell, they may do that to Fitzpatrick anyway. Hack probably wouldn't do well if he would be forced to make quick release short throws. And given what we know about his experience in practice up to this point, he wouldn't have chemistry with anyone.

In all likelihood he would get injured or have an extremely poor showing, which benefits nobody at all. Not to mention it would make for a ridiculous number of horrible off-season threads.

He hasn't and for the most part he's been relegated to scout team reps. But unfortunately with the CBA practice raps are at a premium. IMO Jets will be undertaking the reformation of Hack's mechanics in the offseason. I also think that Hack will probably also be practicing on his own with Carson Palmers brother who was coaching him up before the draft.

The jets plan was to sit him all year...Bowles and Macc have pretty much said that.. as for accuracy and mechanics, it is generally true that accuracy doesn't necessarily improve if you don't have it already, but we also have to take a more nuanced view of Hacks situation at Penn State. For the most part, Hack was pretty accurate when he was taking snaps under center...when he was in the shotgun was when he had issues. IMO, Franklin was trying to run a system that Hack was not meant for, and his numbers, mechanics, accuracy, etc suffered as a result.

Nonetheless, I agree, the accuracy remains a concern for sure, I'm just more optimistic about it being better with proper coaching, system fit, and reps.

He should play for the experience.
All this bullcrap about fixing him in the offseason is ridiculous. Bill Walsh couldn't fix this steaming pile of a wasted 2nd round pick. I'm sure he got payed pretty good to be a fan and fly on the wall in the locker room. He has bust written all over him. Mac may as well cut him. Someone would pick him up for a year just to find out how bad of a reach he really was. Like Nacho, he will be out of the league between 5-7 years, never being anything but a JETS wasted 2nd round pick in 2016.
Grooming and having to "Fix" a professional is silly. He isn't in little league, and shouldn't be treated as such. Period!

Thanks. Maybe it wasn't avoidable, but it sounds pretty much like a waste of 8 months of development.

    I am tending to agree

Mac will live or die by this pick so if Hack is "flawed" they "fix it" ???? sheeshh

Try him out for god sakes in the Bills game ...see where he is at ...you will know more how to draft

Someone get smart here ...but no toilet b needs a W haha
