Is it too early to start looking towards 2018?

I had no expectations this year and was not disappointed. I expect very little improvement on the roster next season. At the earliest, I see this team having a pulse in 2018 if not 2019.

    This sucks...
I agree there are no clear upgrades, but still...

This is going nowhere with Bowles. The players no longer care, i don't think the fans even care anymore.
    It's that uninspiring..

When Buffalo starts firing better coaches than we are retaining, you know the bar has been set at an all time low

Indeed. Why bother caring when seemingly everyone within the franchise apparently doesn't?

You may be right. If Bowles actually stays they'll be laying off a few people in the season ticket department for lack of work.

This might be the last straw that gets me to drop my NFL Sunday Ticket.

It could be worse. Couldn't it?

Agree 1000%. To fire a coach after 2 years, he has to be god awful, and while Bowles has made his share of mistakes, the issues on the team run much deeper. In penalties per game, the jets have ranked 4th and 7th the last 2 years. Prior to Bowles they were ranked around 17th. It does show that there is some discipline. He's also shown that he has no problem benching players who won't follow the rules (even their best players) as he did with Wilkerson and Richardson.

The mistakes can be cleaned up with time, but he needs talent and IMO a better DC. The issues at QB weren't even close to his fault. Tons of people bitched about Bowles not starting Petty soon enough, despite him not being ready, and now he's on IR and probably won't be back in time for next year's training camp. Yeah, that worked out well. Now people are already complaining that we should start Hackenburg despite him also being not ready. People don't get how detrimental it can be to start a QB that isn't ready, especially behind a decimated oline. Let's all just take a breath and step back from the ledge. It could be way worse.

Well, there better be a major roster turnover this offseason, because if the same group of vets are on the team that quit on him this year, we should all by stock in the local banner/plane businesses. Some say that Bowles deserves another season, but this team, especially the 'stars' have quit playing hard for him and that falls squarely on his shoulders. And like Rex, he's too defense oriented to be a HC, just my honest opinion...

Nothing the defense has done this year indicates Bowles is "too defense oriented."

It feels like a waste of time to me. Woody is just going to can Bowles halfway through the season next year anyway. Why wait until then? Who do you guys think will get the interim job next year? Gailey?

How is it that the Star Ledger can come up with a list of good offensive coaches (3 with HC experience), and the Daily Schnooze can't come up with a single one? Was that Mehta? I didn't see an author listed with the article.

Some of the comments here are totally laughable imo. I just can't imagine anyone thinking that Bowles deserves to come back or that Mac deserves to be fired. It may not take all types to make the world go round, but we sure have them.

But if you are going to play a young QB then you might as well fire Bowles. I mean this team is 4-11 having played a veteran QB and a bunch of vets. Playing a young QB they are just going to be worse and Bowles isn't going to last the season. Just a wasted year and you force your young QB to get beat up a year before switching systems.

makes more sense to gank Bowles now, bring in a coach who knows a thing or 2 about QBs, start the youth movement with a new coach that is not on the hotseat.

The report was the NYDN and Gary Myers so yet again I'm not going to buy it. Just saw another article by pro football talk that said that Jets don't anticipate firing Bowles which is what Myers was saying. IMO, I still think there's a possibility it happens and I also think that if say we get blown out by the Bills it can surely happen.

Agree with this. Neither has proven enough to me to allow them to move forward without the other.

If the Jets are good next year, they both stay. If the Jets are bad next year, it gets blown up again.

The Jets don't have to be "good", simply competitive would be enough for me. This weekly blowout shit has to stop cause if it keeps up in 2017, time to get out the pitchforks and torches.

Agreed. I can understand the occasional beatdown, it happens to the best of them. Cant see it multiple times next year. If it does, no one is absolved of blame.
