Hi guys i have been very busy at work this season and i haven't had time to follow our games , mostly watched redzone when I`m back from work . I would like you guys give your opinion on the 2016 draft class as of the end of the season . All negatives of the season aside how did Darron lee and Jordan Jenkins played? And can they develop into great players? Also on side note How did Leonard Williams , Devin smith and Lorenzo maudlin played this season?
L Williams gets an A -New player a step away from Pro Bowl Lee -A First Rounder who improved,,, Meh ....1st rounders need more an immediate impact imo B-/B Maudlin- A later round selection ...Room for improvement..B-
No one named Williams was drafted by the Jets in 2016 so I don't know why anyone brought up Leonhard Williams. Lee - Rough start, but by the end of the season was looking like he'll be a decent player for years to come. Hackenberg - If he hasn't improved since training camp, he's a bust. Huge project to be taken so early. Clearly a reach by our GM but when the fanbase calls for your head because you didn't take shitty QB option #1 (Lynch) in the first round, pressure mounts and he folded. Jenkins - I've barely heard his name called all year in the games I've seen. Bit of a non-factor this year. Burris - Got abused badly early in the year. Super painful to watch. Still having a tough time by the end of the year but CB can be one of the toughest positions to play in the NFL. The WR talent level is a huge jump from college so it's going to be hard. But you can see he drastically improved over the year so I'd say there's hope. Shell - A lot of work to be done. Edwards - That booming leg in practice just doesn't translate to games. Peake - Kid is a steal. End of the 7th round? Fantastic talent for that late a pick. Anderson - Major contributor this year. Just need to see more fight for the ball. Overall - B- Wanted to give lower but the Peake pick and Anderson signing made it a much better draft class for us. Plus I think Lee can be a faster David Harris which would be great. Hackenberg in the 2nd hurt. At least Shell and Edwards were late picks.
Overall it is looking like a very s ok I'd draft with contributions from every player but Hackenburg. Lee - I did not like the pick bit he has been a pleasant surprise. Hackenburg - Again I did not like the pick but I have no problem with it because of the upside. If you think a 2nd rd pick can be your QB of the future you have to take the chance even if the pick will fail 8 or 9 times out of 10 because of the high possible return. Jenkins - mixed results. He had a great camp but rough start to the year. His playing time h as gradually increased. He could end up as a nice role player starting lb which would be a great return. Burris - he has been burned a lot but he has skills and competes. He looks like he will be a solid number 2 cb. A very nice pick for the 4th round. She'll a 5th round OL is always a crash out and we won't know until next year. But he has potential to be our RT of the future or,at worst a solid backup. A nice pick even with the trade up. Edward's He has been an upgrade but a disappointment. But simply making the team as a 7th rounderror us better than could be expected. I am not sure if he will be here next year. Peake He is getting better and could develop. It takes 3 years for a reciever to develop but he looks like a steal. Anderson FA Great pickup. Overall a B at worst with the potential for a A to A+ . A very solid draft. I cannot complain about any pick even if Hack fails the gamble is one you have to make.
If not for guys like Peake, and UDFA's like Marshall and Anderson, this entire draft would be hot garbage. Basically, none of Mac's draft picks have helped the Jets win games in 2016. Darron Lee is a part time player at best. Hack is RED SHIRTED (someone please tell me WTF that means?). Jordan Jenkins is a nobody up to this point. Brandon Shell has been a useless POS up to now. The punter was not a bad pick. All around, this draft is a D+, C- at very best....
Lol, to be fair the OP edited his initial post. I initially posted a falcepalm pic before I saw ths edit.
I don't like giving drafts a grade, especially after one year. Some people grade them the day the draft ends....which is crazy. If You want to argue value, I can understand that point. Lee was a good value at #17, and has shown potential. Was hurt missed some time, but is adjusting to a new position in the NFL, tough to do for a 21 year old Kid.....he will be fine. Hack, IMO, was a poor value in Rd 2, but could develop too soon to tell. Jenkins in Rd 3 has done a good job, in limited time due to injury. Shell has hardly played and could our future starting RT, he needs time. People calling him a POS is out of line. I question our punter, he has regressed and is very slow to get kicks off, need competition next training camp. Peake was a great value and should continue to improve.
C'mon man. Are you even watching the games? No one is saying that these guys got robbed out of a trip to the Pro Bowl, but hot garbage? You think the transition from college to Pro is easy? Do you understand the concept of later round picks building the roster? Is it Rookie of the Year or nothing?
I expected much more negative reviews , so seems overall we had two decent drafts the last two years.
well for me a decent sign is that many of the picks are on the field and making game plays. Now one could argue that we are 4-11 so how many plays can these guys be making; true but they have to be out there and improvement will likely follow.
Lee- looked ok, no big plays, was in decent position on coverage but no awareness or ball skills. Has potential, but really needs to pick it up next year. Otherwise he was maybe a half step over a jag this year. Hack- no one one knows, could be huge bust or franchise qb. Obviously not good value at this time. 2nd rounder who did not play a snap Jenkins- full time starter, did a decent job setting the edge, had 2.5 sacks in the past 4games, coming on. Nice return for a 3 rd rounder. Could be a decent long term starter. Burris- got more PT later in the year, looks decent also. Can play, ceiling is #2 corner. Solid value for 4th rounder Shell- started last few games, looked pretty solid. Good run blocking, (all of Powell's big run vs bills were on right side where Shell was.) Fair pass blocking. At least a good backup, might win starting job next year. If he is starter next year this is a really good pick Edwards- average punter at best. Street FA could have done same I think. He is on team, nobody likes spending draft picks on kickers unless they are very good. Peake- great size, has shown flashes, made some plays. Can play, great value for a 7th rounder. If he develops into a starter will be a tremendous steal FA- Anderson has been great for FA, would have been good value if he was even a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Jalin Marshall, too loose with the ball, bad punt returner, average receiver. Has potential, good value for a FA. Compared to some of our drafts, I'd say it is pretty solid. If some players break through and really develop it will be a very good draft.
Even though Lee has not been great so far, he wasn't expected to play this much coming out as an undersized redshirt sophomore. That he's been starting consistently is great for his rookie year. Who knows with Hack... Was deeply skeptical of the pick and still am, but I guess we don't know yet. Jenkins hasn't been impactful, but been playing a lot. I'd guess he'll start next year too. Burris has shown flashes and probably has a bigger role next year. He seems promising overall. Shell has seemingly done quite well at RT and looks like the starter there now. Edwards hasn't been great, but still better than the past couple seasons or more at the position. Peake is promising and looks like he's a keeper. He gives reason to believe he can be a good player. Anderson has been excellent as a UDFA. If he added a few pounds of muscle without losing speed he could be a starter of the future. Marshall has been up and down but looks talented and should be a piece going forward. Even Lawrence Thomas looked good before getting hurt. Overall, this is an encouraging class. Seems like Mauldin has been hurt. Disappointing sophomore season, but should open as starter next year. Smith better be careful and needs to step up because he's buried at the moment. Leonard Williams was very rightly thr team MVP. Other than Williams, no stars yet, but the 2016 class is very promising. I expect many of these guys to be relied on for bigger roles next year
Jenkins started hitting his stride towards the end of the season. Leo is going to be great. I have high hopes for Lee.
Lee is undersized and has potential, a lot to learn Hack ? Jenkins has a good motor but needs a lot of work Burris was toast but has some upside Shell wasn't too bad Edwards was terrible Peake was a pleasant surprise
Leonard Williams was our best player next to Bilal Powell Devin Smith is a waste of a uniform Lorenzo Maudlin at this point is a nothing
