Nick Mangold has a 9M cap number next year with no dead money if we cut him. So this may be it for him as a Jet. Since we drafted him in 2006, he's made 7 Pro Bowls and been 1st Team All-Pro twice. He's also been a class act on and off the field, and Mangold is an awesome name. If this is it, it's been a fun 11 years. Thanks Nick!
I was very happy when we drafted him. Favorite memory is him wiping the field up with D. Peko against the Bengals in '09, in both games, all day. He was dominant those earlier years. He's one guy I'd like to see catch on somewhere next year for a good run. I hope they let him go for his sake.
Yes, the best way to show him appreciation at this point is to get him off the sh*tshow and let him retire in peace.
Mangold on IR, so we aren't going to see him play... In terms of next year, I'd keep him, and would try to re-sign Winters. At least keep the interior consistent while we search for starting Tackles. Also good chance we'll have an inexperienced QB back there, so a vet like Mangold helping with protections would be key.. lol, it would be better for him if we let him go tho..
No reason to subject him to another year of the Flushing Bowles Sh&tshow sponsored by whatever the f*ck Woody does to get so much money
An all time great Jet. Not the best to ever play but being consistently good for so long is a great accomplishment
Meeting him and getting my 74 jersey signed was one of the greatest days of my life If he retires then I'm really glad that he'll be a jet for life. Wish we could've sealed the deal for him, but I'd like to see him go for a ring though.
He came to play Did his job very well ...Team guy Best of luck Nick wherever ya end up here or elsewhere!!
I was at the "Horseshoe" in Columbus in 2003 vs San Diego St. when Nick Mangold came in early in the game at Center for an injured Alex Stepanovich, when he blew out his knee. Nick never looked back and when Stepanovich came back from his injury he played Guard. Mangold played so well at Center, be beat out a Senior. Met him once in Columbus about 10 years ago at a local restuarant, great Guy, friendly with a good sense of humor. He was glad to hear I was a Jet fan, he said " not too many of them here in Ohio".
We can say a lot of shit about Mangini, but he was the major reason we drafted Brick & Nick in Rd 1. Since then we have neglected the O-line.
He has been a great player and a great Jet. I have mixed feelings about his coming back however. Since we can save $9 million with no dead money hit, part of me thinks he should be released, as that's what the Steelers, Pats and other very good teams routinely do. The other part thinks that since he's been a great Jet, deserves respect, is probably still better than anyone we'd replace him with (if he can stay healthy and on the field), and it would make sense to keep the interior 3 positions of the OL the same (if possible) since we'll probably have new starting OTs next season, that we should bring him back but on a reduced contract. Perhaps the contract can be incentive laden where he'll make more with every game he plays, every practice he participates in, plus any postseason honors or whatever, but don't know if that would be legal under the CBA.
i wanted him in the draft. Bought a jersey early. Watched his play and loved his drive and concentration. His smarts setting up assignments were on the ball. I wish him the best!!!
Great Jet, and I can see him playing another year for us as he is a stabilizing influence. There are plenty of other guys who need to go before Mangold does.
This surely is the reason to keep him around, but probably only if we are planning on starting Petty or Hack. His experience and smarts will be a big benefit. If we go down the vet route then I can see the logic in releasing him.
Mangold is the man. Snapped the ball to Chad Pennington, Brett Favre, 4 playoff wins with Mark Sanchez, and a fun year with Ryan Fitzpatrick. He has been an iron man too up to 2016. I think he has a couple years left in the tank and I would pay him that $9 million, but I could definitely seen a scenario where the Jets release him. I could also see a scenario where he asks for his release to go to a winner to end his career. If this is the end for Nick, it has been great. He will be in the Ring of Honor right next to DBrick.
Yeah, even in spite of taking Clemens in the 2nd and Schlegel in the 3rd, it was still very strong overall. I do hope Mangold can be convinced to take a pay cut for one more year. I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.
