Maybe the Jets CS didn't get the twitter feed about Ryan's departure.

The one thing I give Bowles credit for is how he's handled Hackenberg.

Well, who knows. But if I'm the Bills new DC (even if only for a day) and I get a QB in his first start, I'm sending the house every down.

Knowing Gailey, you don't think he'd get pass happy with Hack do you? He'll try to turn the game into something resembling the old Army/Navy games.. Yanno... 3 runs and a cloud of dust. Again, this oline is so damn bad that you can't play your Qb for fear of injury? Of hurting his mental state? Is Hack that brittle mentally and physically that he can't get sacked on occasion?

They saw him and his intangibles in preseason, and they'll see him next preseason. They're literally doing the same thing they did to Petty last year. He was a project pick, and they're treating him as such. Kudos to the front office.

I dont care about babying Hack. The team had a plan, and I want them to stick to it.

Plus why have Hack go in there to take the beating when Fitz is on the team. Doesnt make any sense to me.

It just seems like you are bitter about Petty for some reason.

And that "plan" will bring the same results as all the rest of their "plans" have..

Things are looking up. Rumor has it that Hackenberg has been issued a pass to the player's parking lot for this week's game. Baby steps.

Thats a different argument for a different thread. Abandoning your development plan for a QB because other things havent worked out is a recipe for disaster.

making first start against Rex would have been tough on Hack.
With Rex out, he should definitely play.

I can't see the Buffalo defense giving a shit anymore.......kind of like ours..
    get Hack in there!

Now that Rex won't be there to throw his overrated array of blitzes at the Jets QB, Hackenberg should get the start. If he's too emotionally fragile to handle starting a meaningless Week 17 game against another lousy team, then he's too emotionally fragile to be a starting QB in the NFL.

Even if he hands the ball off 40 times in a row it wouldn't hurt to get Hack some game experience.

If Geno or Petty were healty you could argue that they need it more or that stsrting them would be best for the team. if Fitz is gone next year nothing good can come from starting him this week.

At this point I would rather see Bilal Powell play QB than watch Fitz at the helm.

After what he went through at Penn State, anyone suggesting he's fragile mentally doesn't know anything about him. And anyone who thinks he wouldn't be vulnerable behind this O-Line didn't see what happened to Petty. What the hell, let him play. Let's divest of all three QB's and play Geno next year, LOL! :D

Even though I'm a fan of people with a plan

I think no plan could see both Geno and Petty going down.

The plan might need small 1 game adjustment

Get Hack one game on film. I'm sure there will be 100 teachable moments that he can use in the offseason.

But whatever- don't care too much either way

Yeah I'm bitter that they fed Petty to the wolves and want to baby Hack. that's the reason in a nutshell. If Petty sucks because he can't play behind this oline after 4 games, then why not test Hack under the same circumstances for ONE game? This entire sorry assed episode has been designed to shield the GM's 2nd rd reach/pet project from the getgo. They should have been honest but along with competency, that's also in short supply in Florham Pk.

Fuck it.. Baby the kid. Keep him in diapers until 2020 if that makes you happy. It really doesn't matter anyway at this point. Maybe we can get a scrimmage against Rutgers and start Hack then. That way, he might survive. God forbid he gets sacked....

Bryce got an entire year and 12 games on the bench and still came out with no field vision or pocket awareness. Hack is still in his rookie year.

If, God forbid, this same situation arises next year and they still refuse to start Hack down the stretch, then parallels can be drawn and you complain about him being "babied".

This is pretty childish. Petty had a full season and a half to sit and learn. He came in, and struggled immensely. He showed me that he probably isnt the man for the job. If you saw something special in him, I hope you are right. I didnt see anything. You can blame it on the line, and coaching, and receivers, and that plays a part. What I saw, was a QB who isnt very good. If you consider that being thrown to the wolves, thats on you.

If the Jets are 2-8 next year, and Hackenberg still hasnt taken a snap, than I'll be pissed. If Hackenberg comes in and plays awful, I will be the first one there to say he isnt the man for the job. Just like I did with Petty. I wanted, and believed Petty was going to be the guy. I saw him play, and it reminded me why he was a fourth round pick.

"Keep him in diapers until 2020 if that makes you happy."

I dont want to keep him in diapers until 2020, so I dont know where that came from. Just seems like an emotional response, honestly. I want the team to follow through with the plan they put in place for him. Like I said, if the Jets are garbage next year and Hack still cant crack the starting lineup, I will be the first in line to say he isnt the future.

Petty wanted that spot, I'm sure, just as I'm sure CH would like it as well. However maybe someone learned from losing Petty the way he went down? And Buffalo's D line is no less stout than Miami's. There are a lot of wild cards suddenly in the mix to be certain now, but since the game means nothing, I'd start Fitz to see what kind of D they're gonna play (for who knows now?), and give Hack the 2nd half.

The offensive line has been nowhere near as bad as people here make it out to be. I get that they want to see Petty succeed so they'll try to allocate blame elsewhere to explain away his struggles. But it's obvious to me that him holding the ball too long, locking onto his first read, being overly hesitant, missetting protection schemes and having no pocket presence/movement is probably more to blame than the actual protection. Every time Fitz has come back in the pressure issues have gone away.

The thing that sucks is that, outside of locking into the first read, Hack has all the same problems. He can scan the field and read a defense, but he's a fucking statue while he does it and lets guys run straight at him obliviously. We're screwed until we get a guy in here like Mariota, Carr or Winston, who can drift around the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield, making the line look better than it is.
