Ok, so this has slowly been urking me over the last few weeks, i know that the Jets CS loves this pick, and they love using Smith as the gimmick/gadget player, and yes we all know hes one hell of an athlete...HOWEVER, he still is not being used in this offense...i would like to see some progression, maybe a catch or two a game, something other then the spectacular ST play we have seen from him (which im sure we all appreciate) Im growing weary of seeing Brad line up behind center, and handing the ball off...i want to see him split out wide and get a few passes tossed his way....we all know he is capable Here to seeing Brad being implemented into the offense in the near future(Hopefully)
Maybe we should have him in PR, he is one of the fastest people in punt coverage, and I agree with using him as a regular receiver once in a while
For now I think it's actually fine the way he is being used. Sure, I'd love to see him seriously involved on plays other than being a decoy, but maybe it is the good thing to do. Get him used to the NFL and how he will go about his time as a WR/QB/etc while he is in a Jets uniform. He is doing well on Special Teams, which is good to see. He seems to catch the ball nicely and run it too. Throwing is a good thing too. Overall he is a great player and I'm glad he is apart of this team.
He'll come around. It's not like he was the 2nd pick of the draft like Reggie Bush, in that case the team would be forced to get him involved in the game. At this point, he isn't all that reliable of a wide receiver. Jets' first priority is to make him a catcher, and then utilize his other skills. So, until he can truly take over Mccareins' spot in the depth, he has to law low for awhile. This is nothing to be concerned about.
Give it some time, hell be o.k You have heard it all before but hes learning a new position and such. Its going to take some time.
I know its going to take some time...but the way people were raving about him in TC....he definetely is worth the shot....im not too concerned to wait for him to develope...i just think he could be playing more
he lined up as a receiver once yesterday...his position of the future is at receiver, so as he learns the nuances of the position im sure he will see more time there, hopefully phasing out j-mac and/or shave boy dwight im sure sometime within the next few games we will see smith throw that elusive pass we have all been waiting for...only a matter of time and as for special teams, the guy is really our special teams ace...i wish i could vote for him in the pro bowl, cause he is ALWAYS around the ball
Putting a lot on his plate for a well-prepared Pats team wouldn't be the ideal way to use his trickery.
Brad was not used for 3 reasons: 1- The Pats would be prepared for any Brad trickery. Mangini forced the Pats to waste some D-prep time on a player who didn't even play. haha. Point Mangini. 2- The horrible weather conditions would make it hard for Brad to throw, run, juke, reverses, ect. All the things Brad is good at would have been somewhat nulified anyhow. 3- B/C of 1 & 2 above, Mangini decided to "save" Brad for the Bears. Look for lots of Brad on Sunday in ways we (and the Bears) have never seen him b4.
I think there could be the strong possibility that he will be gone next season. Having him as a KO cover guy is just a waste. Hes 3rd string WR and 4th string RB. Yes he a good utility player but unless they start using him at WR more I think he will be gone. For me I'm not into 'gimmick' players and would prefer to see the rosta spot allocated to a stud WR in the next draft.
I was just going to type the same thing, excellent post. I also believe he will be throwing a TD pass this coming week. You heard it here first. Also, gustoon I don't believe there is any way he is gone next year. He is the best ST player we have right now which by itself ensures him a roster spot. And Mangini loves the flexibility of having a guy who can be depth in the WR, RB and QB spot; it allows him to carry other positions into the game. And finally, let's not forget that he is cheap for being such a valuable tool. No way he is gone next year unless he drastically declines or is hurt this year....
I'd like to see some reverse passes similar to Antwan Randle El's role for the steelers. I really think that helps keep teams honest. He is a great athlete.
What makes you think a 4th rd pick, that is a "project" player will be gone after his rookie season?!?!?
Yah, there is no way he should be gone after this year. That is just nuts. He has shown some great promise. He's a converted QB...not going to be Hines Ward overnight.
I like the way they mix him in and out and use him as a decoy. Every look they use him in makes opposing coaching staffs spend time on it, which creates an advantage for us. And since he can do so many things, throw, run, catch, there are countless ways to line him up and use him as a threat if not actually in the play. Great pick-up just for that reason alone.
Good point. That's about all Bush is bringing to the Saints right now. But it makes a team spend time on him in practice.
