Saw this on the ESPN Cheats blog concerning tomorrow's game: "The Jets ranked first against the run in their first eight games of the season (74.0 avg.) but are 27th since Week 9, with opponents averaging 134.5 yards per game." So did they all just quit? And if so, whose fault was that? Players, coach or both? Ron
I don't know and don't have time to look it up, but at least part of it possibly could be that the teams they faced in the first 8 games didn't have great RBs or rushing attacks, and those we've faced since 9 were much better in that regard. That said, I'm thinking that most or all of it is on the poor coaching/schemes and play of the players.
Our first six games of the season were essentially a gauntlet of top rated teams. Our opponents did not get better as the season progressed, we got worse.
I didn't say opponents, I said rushing attacks, and said it was "possibly" a part of the problem. I didn't say it was. RIF, my man, RIF.
week 1 - Bengals - no start Rb week 2 - Bills - Mccoy -> stud week 3 - KC - Ware -> above avg excellent running game week 4 - Sea - no real running game week 5 - Pitt - Bell - top rb in the league Week 6 - AZ Johnson - top Rb in the legue week 7 - Bal - West - having an ok year week 8 - Browns - uhhhh yeah they're the browns week 9 - Mia - Ajayi - overrated but killed us week 10 - LA - Gurley - awful this year week 12 - NE - Blount having an excellent season week 13 - IND - Gore - steady but nothing special anymore week 14 - SF - Hyde - nothing special, killed us week 15 - Miami - Ajayi week 16 - NE Blount will kill us week 17 Bills - Mccoy will kill us in case anyone was wondering the quality of backs we faced
FYI, Carlos Hyde is 11th in rushing yards and 8th in YPC at 4.7. He's emerging as a top tier running back this year, it's just that SF is god awful and almost always playing from behind. If not he'd probably be near the top 5.
