How can you guys be serious about something like this? What business leader throws away everything he knows about how his industry operates because a tiny percentage of its customers vociferously protests some of his decisions? Do any of you guys who put so much power in the hands of the press and the fans have any business experience at all?
Macs trying to save face by not playing Hack.Hes the only QB drafted in the first 4 rounds last year that hasnt taken a snap in an NFL game yet
Macc REALLY needs for Hack to turn into the QBoTF. His 2nd rd. picks so far have produced almost zero results (1 TD by Smith). If Macc fucks up the 2nd rd pick again this year and history isn't on his side in this, he certainly will have earned the Fisheye from Woody and the NY Media.
On draft day, before Hackenberg was drafted one of the analysts on TV quoted an unnamed NFL executive on Hackenberg "He's the type of player that either makes some GM a genius or gets him fired" ..... sentiments that could end up being true here
I don't know if Hack will ever even be an NFL back-up, but the point is: Mac made a "major reach" drafting this player anywhere before the 5th round, ...if he was indeed enamored by this player, trade back and gather picks, horrible move!!
I have no problem drafting another QB, Id draft one every year in rounds 3-7 until I hit, and even reach in round 2. A QB masks so many problems on a team, IMO its worth it. Rich Cimini is clueless, as is Mehta.
I actually thought Costello was the best of the three. Now I'm so fed up with all of them. Maybe the decline of print media has bleed into Jet coverage as well.

A developmental league would hurt the bottom line. We've already got too much football on TV as it is and having lower-priced tickets without PSL's available in smaller markets would hurt the box office as well. The beauty of NFL Europe was that it had minimal impact on the domestic bottom line while potentially attracting a new customer base as large as the existing one in the process. A solution to the developmental problem would be to modify the CBA to allow for Developmental Contracts. A DC would allow the coaching staff access to the player for significant periods where veteran players were not allowed to interact with coaches. It would increase the number of full contact sessions allowed for those players. It would allow teams to try to actually develop players that were not ready to go. The current system is unwieldy and favors vested vets until they hit 29 or so at which point it drops them like a hot potato.
It doesnt have to be a first rounder, but they should not rule out taking a QB just because they took Hackenberg. If there is a guy you like later on in the draft you take him. Hopefully Hackenberg (or Petty) is the man going forward. But I would not spend my offseason assuming one of them is. Until you have a QB, you do not have a QB.
The current system favors vested vets because it is vested vets that are negotiating the CBA. I'm not saying your proposal wouldn't be better for the league I just don't see how it would ever be agreed upon. Veterans are going to be okay with their organizations spending extra time working with their cheaper, younger, replacements?? i dont think so.
It's the opposite. Hackenberg showed the GM was clueless. Picking a QB in round 1 would show he learned something.
what you say is true, but totally ignoring the OL like the jets have done for 10 years, will never get you there.
Bob McNair wanted Osweiler not BOB. He just got benched for Savage. Texans are a win now team and the owner didn't want a young QB. Hackenberg has a shot to be a good quarterback and he should be afforded every opportunity to do so.
